Antonio McDyess anyone?
I'm not sure if he's a good enough player to warrant his own thread, but I didn’t' know where else to put this...and hey, Alexander Kuehl has is own thread so why not a player who was once on his way to stardom. He's worth a look at this price.
Quote:
Antonio McDyess finished up strong in Phoenix with four double-doubles in his last 10 games, including 14 points and 15 rebounds in a win over the Kings. But he may still be looking at just a veteran's minimum as a free agent after three years of injuries. "I'm not going to turn anybody down," said McDyess, a member of the last Olympic team. "Teams have to see if I'm healthy."

RE:Antonio McDyess anyone?
What is his status in the off-season? Is he free agent or what?

RE:Antonio McDyess anyone?
Not being a salary "cap-ologist", I'm not sure how we can fit him in. Here are differing approaches:
1) We must make sure that we sign Nash first. Afterwards, we need to sign Daniels. Then, if there is still room, we can sign McDyess.
2) Let Nash go, but make sure to sign Daniels and make sure to get a big man like McDyess OR Dampier OR other.
3) Sign Nash & let Daniels go, but make sure to sign McDyess or some other bigman.
So, which way would you go if you were calling shots?

RE: Antonio McDyess anyone?
Letting Nash go would have zero effect on our ability to sign other FA's except for the fact that it would free up a roster spot.

RE:Antonio McDyess anyone?
I admit that this is just speculation, and thought. I am worried about his health.
If Dallas traded - Walker/filler for NVE and Dampier (SNT), or Foyle (SNT) - wouldn't McDyess be a logical fit? Would he sign for the MLE or less?
Then he could be the 4/5 with Nowitzki being the 3/5, and Damp/Bradley being true 5's. That would be a pretty good lineup I would think. It could allow for massive mismatches.
Nash - NVE
Finley - Daniels
Howard - Jamison
Nowitzki - McDyess
Dampier/Foyle - Bradley
Bench: Najera - any players left that haven't been traded in the NVE, Damp/Foyle deal.
IR: TAW, Stefesson

Kingrex, it's my understanding that you can always sign a player for the minimum salary, regardless of your cap situation. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. In that case all we would have to do is make sure we had a roster spot.

If having a roster spot is an issue, then there is a certain Icelandic point guard that can always get a job as an AAC greeter.

I didn't see enough of McDyess to know if he still has any game. If he did, then he could fill in for Dirk maybe.

RE:Antonio McDyess anyone?
I saw McDyess play on the last homestand. It's hard to say what kind of low-post defender he'd make since we don't really post up that much, but he played a decent game. He's clearly not as explosive as he once was.

RE:Antonio McDyess anyone?
I'd offer McDyess the vet mininum any day. If he even gets 75% of his game back then he's a top 50-75 player. If he doesn't then we aren't out anything other than a little bit of money.

Oh, no question. I was assuming it would realistically take more than that.

RE:Antonio McDyess anyone?
The quote at the beginning of the thread indicated that McDyess would look seriously at a mininum offer. Of course he probably wouldn't choose the Mavs unless we got rid of a power forward or two.
I wonder if McDyess could play center? He's 6'9" and 245 lbs. He may not have enough left to play PF anymore - that has evolved to perhaps the most athletic position in the NBA.

If Brian Grant can play center I don't see why not. I could see him as part of a center rotation. He won't block many shots but he can still rebound and score in the post.

Oh boy that woul be a ten men rotation I´d like. If McDyess could stay healthy the second five would be insanely strong, they´d easily make the playoffs in the east.
