RE: Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
How sad that our leading rebounder is Terry with 5 and Dirk is our leading assist man with 3.

It's going to be interesting when the Mavs have all 5 starters out there plus Stack/Harris/Howard off of the bench.

What a bizarre game... Dirk is leading the team in assists and Terry is the leading rebounder.

I think I'm going to cry. I want to see something positive.
Seeing Sasser/Lopez and Hood on the floor at the same time is not my idea of a good time.

RE: Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
The Knicks announcers haven't said one word that about 75% of our "regulars" aren't playing tonight. Yet they still keep talking about the Knicks defense. Kind of weird. Sasser/Hood/Lopez/etc will be gone. Training camp fodder who are logging big minutes tonight.

RE:Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
I never want to see 30% fg next to our name again.
Dampier/M'Benga/Booth/Bradley
Nowitzki/Henderson/Booth
Finley/Howard/Stackhouse/Hood
Daniels/Stakhouse/Finley/Lopez/Sasser
Terry/Harris/Dickau
Bolded injured...
in other words the only guy in the first 3 positions that will get time in the regular season is Terry. Other than Terry, we are playing without our 1,2 and 3 spots.

Er...what happened to letting the starters playing heavy minutes in the preseason so they can develop on-court chemistry?

RE: Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
I wonder if the injuries are serious or if the Mavs are just being cautious?
I'd guess that Howard's hammy tightened up on him and they held him out for the rest of the game. The DMN said Fin would play yesterday against Milwaukee, but he's now sitting out his 2nd game with his hammy. Nothing more on Stack and his injuries either.

I really am in disbelief here.
A city like New York can't find better announcers than these two jokes? Phoenix has better announcers. They are absolutely pathetic hacks.

Ah thanks. I don't know if this happens to every NBA team, but it seems like our guys get bit with stomach flues quite often. I remember last year Dirk and Nash both had problems getting sick. I guess the constant physical demands of the NBA are hard on the immune system.

me too. I only know Charlotte, Phoenix and the national ones, and Phoenix overall was the weakest team I knew about. Al McCoy has interestingly enough broadcast every Phoenix Suns NBA basketball game in history. His crew is sometimes very weak.

M'Benga needs to know when to just backup. He went for that Ariza block even though he was too far back off the weakside and ended up looking embarassed. Bradley just got beat.

hardly. He went around Bradley, Bradley was a step slow, and M'Benga tried to come over for the weakside block but was out where the baseline and the key come together and was on the other side of the basket by the time Ariza went up.

RE:Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
Perfect example of these awful announcers and how far up the Knick's asses they are.
Barrett throws an awful outlet pass for a fast break that was so low it would have been uncatchable to Boykins, and the announcer (Starks) proclaims, "that was almost another highlight" and laughs his sh#t-eating laugh.
I listened to the wntire game and they have not mentioned our injuries once. Not once. They didnt even mention them when they announced the starting lineup. They said Terry/Howard/Henderson/Nowitzki/Dampier (but it was Sasser at the 3. ) without flinching.

John "uh" Starks
I wish I started counting from the beginning of the broadcast how many times he said "uh". He must have said it 3 or 4 times in every 6 word sentence he had.

RE:Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
I really get the feeling that we need Finley. I think we can win a championship and Im not one of the gaggle of fans that think that we need Dirk to step up in order for that to happen. I'll probably catch flack for this one since there are excuses forthcoming about Dirk's emotional state, but he looked uninterested in leading. Completely uninterested. He wanted to dominate, but he didnt look like he wanted to lead.
Anyway, its hard to put much credit in a game where we were without Finley, Stackhouse, Daniels, Harris, Dickau, and for 3/4 of the game, Howard. Missing 5 significant players in the first 3 positions is significant. It's even harder to put credit to any game where the trio of Hood/Sasser/Lopez combine for 71 minutes

It is difficult to lead when you dont' have your rhythm though. Finley was almost invisible for the past 2 playoff series for the same reason Dirk was tentative tonight.
I think you need to tap on the brakes a bit.

But what's the point if you're Dirk? There's really not one when you're our there playing with Hood/Sasser/Lopez. I'm guessing Dirk knew this game would be a joke. Returning from a family member's funeral and playing with a bunch of misfits does not spell an inspiring performance.

RE:Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
I honestly would have been good if the Mavs had admitted that the game was a joke and actually worked on things, especially offensive sets. As it was the two-man game that got me excited in the first half lasted only about 3-4 minutes, and the rest was a sad attempt to tread water.

RE: Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
Just some observations about Dirk and the rest of the "regulars."
1) Dirk shot terrible. But it wasn't from a lot of "pressure" on him. He had several good looks. Some rolled in and out. Some were just bricks. But generally speaking his shot should be okay. He just needs to get in rythym one night and let it arry over. But what impressed me is he drove to the basket a lot. Just about every single time.
2) Dirk has a nifty feel for Dampier and Booth. He tried to connect with them several times on a pick and roll. A couple was Dirk's fault. One time Booth missed a "layup" from a Dirk feed.
3) Terry sometimes has no concept of "ryhthym" shooting. Several instances he was a second or two late getting the guy in their shooting motion. And the hesitation threw them off. Hopefully it will improve. And not a permanent thing.

RE:Official: Dallas at New York preseason thread
agreed on that, but I'd also add that Terry looked hesitant all around. Even on his offensive game. He just seemed like he was thinking about what Nellie said instead of using his instincts.
