In germany a blue collar guy makes 12 €, maybe 16€. Means working a whole day ( maybe longer ) for a fill-up.

Driving from Springfield/Branson, MO to the Midwest Farm Country, I saw a low of 3.69 per gallon. In my neck of the woods, gas is right around 3.80 per gallon. Of course, the cheap gas here is 10% ethanol and is the mid grade (89-90 octane). Regular unleaded with no ethanol and 87 octane is around 3.90 per gallon

Gas on Vancouver Island was $5.75/gallon ($1.52 a liter) this weekend (Canadian & US dollars are practically equal right now). It was a bit cheaper halfway between Vancouver & Whistler at $5.37 a gallon.

Meanwhile BMW posts a profit warning to the shareholders. 1st half profit to drop by 1/3 . Mercedes clips production by 46.000 units this year to about 1,15 million cars. GM to loose 15 bn. $ in 2nd quarter, has to write down 33 bn. $ due to ending leasing-contracts.
