Have you ever smoked pot?
just curious.. just vote if you'd like...no reason to say anything in the thread if you don't want..
always curious whenever one of those NBA stories pop up concerning Josh Howard or whoever else.

perhaps I'm talking about a potted plant?...
It's odd. I was never really around it. I can remember one guy in college breaking it out randomly outside my apartment. My roommate and I had alot of parties. He played QB at UNT ... many of the football players lived in our same complex. You'd think that you'd see it around considering how many parties we threw, but it really just wasn't around.

Does shooting-up pot count?
(I saw Chevy Chase do it on SNL, so I tried it to be cool like him...)

No only have I never smoked pot, I've never seen it, and wouldn't recognize it if I were to smell it.

The question is: "Have you smoked pot TODAY?"

During my first 3 years of high school, there weren't many days that I didn't.
Grades during my pot years - 1.9 GPA
Grades during my senior year - 3.8
Squeaking into college by the grace of an advisor who understood momentum: priceless
For all you youngens out there, do the math, drop the bong.

yeah, i have, but not too many times. probably less than 10 times throughout 4 years of college, and a few times after graduating.
might be something with pot and basketball, though - the highest i've ever been was after finishing one of my basketball seasons in college. All my teammates (literally all of them, no one abstained) just sat around and took bong hits for hours, talking about the season. we got F'ed up.

Yes.
Unfortunately I hooked up with the wrong crowd in college. Hell, they weren't even college students.
After graduation I ditched the pot and the "friends", and that was that.
If it were legalized, I might smoke some again...but at some point I realized it was important to be a law-abiding citizen.

Have you never been to a concert? That was the first time I smelled pot (probably around age 14 or so).
Despite a million chances to do so, I've never smoked pot, cigarettes, or even a cigar. No moral aversion whatsoever, but I'm sort of a health freak when it comes to that sort of thing. I'd never willingly put smoke in my lungs.
That said, my health-freak nature is mitigated by the fact that, although I haven't smoked pot, I've gotten absurdly drunk on more occasions than I can count. I guess I have a lungs > liver bias.

Jthig, I never thought I'd recogize the smell either. But trust me, you probably would. The first time I caught an accidental whiff of it, I definitely knew what it was.

I've tried it a few times as a kid, and for the record it looks like the vast majority of people have had similar experiences.
The real question isnt have you done it once in your life, but would you have done it in your late twenties while working a professional job.

The only concert that I've been to where I could actually smell it was a Bruce Springstein concert about 7 years ago. That concert was terrible. Bruce Springstein is highly overrated.

Not really a concert goer. Very few bands that I have ever cared about enough to want to see live.

My 5th grade social studies teacher did about a week on the dangers of smoking and scared me straight before I had a chance to do it. Otherwise I probably would have at least tried it as I've had a handful of friends and associates over the years that have dabbled in it.

I got to work the other day and a coworker was like "dude, are you stoned? your eyes are red."
"No man, that's my alergies."
"What are you alergic to?"
"Pot"
I did try it once. First and last time. BTW, it sucked, I didn't feel any effects.

It definitely depends on the music you like. But, let's just say most of my musical tastes align with that sort of activity.
Although, my folks have been to a bunch of concerts for the Eagles/Stones/etc., and they said there has been a lot of weed at each.

Yes, I have smoked more doja than I can count. As I have gotten older the frequncy has dropped off quite a lot, but I still get from time to time. Also I prefer getting high to getting stoned.

I've smoked on more occasions than I can count.
I view its psychological effects (not addictiveness) as stronger than tobacco's but weaker than alcohol's, and, as a result, I gravitated towards it in college because I could still function relatively well the next day since, unlike most of my peers, I was never hungover on Thursday, Friday, and/or Monday mornings. Plus, drunkenness has always been very unattractive to me - probably due to my Baptist family upbringing - so I actually ended up trying pot before ever having a sip of alcohol (besides, when you're under 21, weed is a hell of a lot easier to come by than alcohol).
Having entered graduate school, I now partake less often than I did as an undergrad, but I do still smoke with friends or after finals are over. *shrug*
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to get a new Phish record and some Taco Bell... ( )

Had first puff in college and I've lost count of total times.
I smoke from time to time. For me, alcohol is a more social drug and feels weird to have by myself, especially at home. Whereas, when I smoke, I become more introspective and a thinker, so if I want to relax by myself at the house, it feels more appropriate.
Moderation is key. Don't like getting stoned, just a little high.

US Drug Use Shows Little Change
By AP/KEVIN FREKING
(WASHINGTON) — Cocaine and methamphetamine use among young adults declined significantly last year as supplies dried up, leading to higher prices and reduced purity, the government reports. Overall use of illicit drugs showed little change.
About one in five young adults last year acknowledged illicit drug use within the previous month, a rate similar to previous years. But cocaine use declined by one-quarter and methamphetamine use by one-third.
Drug use increased among the 50-59 age group as more baby boomers joined that category. Their past month drug use rose from 4.3% in 2006 to 5% in 2007.
"The baby boomers have much higher rates of self-destructive behavior than any parallel age group we have data from," said John Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. Walters, 55, is a boomer himself.
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health, being released Thursday by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, is based on interviews with about 67,500 people.
Overall, about 20 million people 12 or older reported using illicit drugs within the past month. Marijuana was the most popular by far, with 14.4 million acknowledging use of marijuana in the past month.
Among adolescents, age 12 to 17, drug use dipped from 9.8% in 2006 to 9.5% last year, continuing a five-year trend. Their use of alcohol and cigarettes also fell during the same period.
"The earlier you use drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, the more likely you are to have a lifelong problem," Walters said.
Much of the progress in curbing drug use occurred between 2002 and 2005. Critics of the nation's drug policies warned not to read too much into the latest numbers.
"Use of marijuana and other drugs naturally fluctuates and if you look at long-term trends, current rates are smack in the middle of the range they've been in for decades," said Bruce Mirken of the Marijuana Policy Project, which advocates the decriminalization of marijuana. "There is simply no evidence that current policies ... have made any difference."
A World Health Organization survey of 17 countries this year showed that people in the U.S. were more likely than people elsewhere to have tried illicit drugs. The U.S. tied New Zealand for the highest rate of marijuana use and far outpaced other countries on cocaine use, the survey found.
The U.S. report measured drug use over the past month, while the WHO's looked at drug use over a lifetime.
The WHO survey concluded: "The use of drugs seems to be a feature of more affluent countries. The U.S., which has been driving much of the world's drug research and drug policy agenda, stands out with higher levels of alcohol, cocaine, and cannabis, despite punitive illegal drug policies as well as a higher minimum legal alcohol drinking age than many comparable developed countries."
More than half the people who tried drugs for the first time in 2007 used marijuana, according to the U.S. survey. The rate of new marijuana users came to about 6,000 people a day.
The overall rate of illicit drug use dropped from 8.3% of those 12 and older to 8.0% in 2007.
Walters also acknowledged concern about nonmedical use of prescription pain relievers among young adults. He urged parents to have more awareness of where they keep their prescriptions and to throw them away when the drugs are no longer needed.
The survey, which also examined mental health, indicated that 24.3 million people 18 or older experienced "serious psychological distress over the past year." It stressed the link between mental health and substance abuse, noting that adults experiencing depression within the past year were more than twice as like to have tried illicit drugs during that time than other adults.

In addition to what LD said, you also have to remember that you don't know anyone who SAYS they have used drugs in the last month. Not everyone who smokes pot is a pothead. I think the majority of people that know me would not guess that I had smoked within the last month. This isn't because I lie about it, but just because it doesn't usually come up and I am still a "normal" functioning member of society.
