you're over valuing NVE's value to the mavs...yes, many of you are doing so.

i don't care about thomas' numbers...what i'm interested in is what he brings to the table..the ability to help the mavs on the boards and with his defense. he doesn't have to match the numbers he put up last year.. all he has to do is grab some boards...score 8-10 pts, and play solid defense...and the trade would be a success

His numbers that the Mavs would be looking at are pretty good. He had half a rebond a game more than Dirk per 48 mins. He averages over 50% from the field and 80% from the free throw line over the last 3 years. He is already used to not shooting the ball alot, after playing with Spree and Houston. Kurt's numbers are never going to look as flashy as Nick's Top-10 numbers do when he is a starter, but Kurt's size is what makes the trade equal. When you trade a lower end Top-10 point guard for a power forward, you won't be able to fetch a Top-10 power forward in return.

good post ghost face

NVE's value to the mavs as a player is less than what Thomas' value to the mavs as a player is...

the mavs don't need a top 10 PG as a backup... alot of what he has to offer is not needed in dallas.

what kurt thomas has to offer is needed in dallas.

The point is NVE value to the Mavs doesn't matter, its his value to other teams. Its like this you have a football team, your starting QB is Kurt Warner and your back-up is Brett Favre, the value of Brett Favre to your football team isn't much about a 2, but his value to other teams is a 10, so just because he don't need him you don't trade him away for Lawrence Phillips. Obviously i'm not saying Nash is Warner and NVE is Favre, but its a similar situation NVE's value to the Mavs isn't much but to other teams its a lot higher as Kid said he probably could start on every team, realistly speaking probably about 20 because some teams might not want to go small. Before the Trade deadline their was about 10 teams that called the Nugs about NVE, and that was before he cut two years of his contract. I know among those teams their has to be something better out their then KT. When you trade you don't trade depending on the value of the player to your team but the value of the player to the team your trading to.

How about Chris Gatling?

MIAMI -- The Miami Heat waived Chris Gatling on Thursday, ending the 6-foot-10 forward's third stint with the team.

Gatling averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 54 games last season for Miami.

He spent part of the 1995-96 season with the Heat and briefly rejoined the team before the 2000-01 season. Two months after coming to Miami, the Heat dealt him to Cleveland in the trade that brought Brian Grant to Miami and sent Shawn Kemp to Portland.

The Heat reacquired Gatling before last season in a three-team trade with Toronto and Cleveland.

Gatling began his career with the Golden State Warriors in 1991. He has played for eight teams in 11 seasons, averaging 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds.

sure it matters... this isn't football. the mavs have a very limited number of roster spots and a very limited number of needs. They have a player that has less value to them than he would to another team... the same with the knicks.

it is a different game with salary cap restrictions...
and another thing..it is very easily argued that Thomas and Ward are of equal value as NVE.
