GDT: Preseason game 6 - Rockets(4-1) at Mavs (2-3). 7:30pm. TXA21/NBALP
Preview
Rockets come to town after vandalizing the Great Wall of China. They can't defend a 53-year-old Charles Barkley (allowing 110ppg on ridiculous pp100), but they've been scoring a lot of points (125 ppg in first 5 games).
Harden comes in averaging 19.6ppg on 8.4 FTAPG, 6.4RPG, 10.6APG, and a league-leading 5.2 TOPG. Harden has already set the record for most turnovers in a season (374) and is looking to make the leap up the NBA leaderboard in total turnovers in his career. He's currently #200 all-time (35th among active) in NBA turnovers, but if he repeats last season he very well could jump into the top 100 alltime (21st in active) in only his 8th year.
Mavs come in only scoring 98.4ppg, but they've been much better on defense (allowing only 102.6ppg) and much of the second halves of games have been a JV/Frosh team on the court for us. Mavs are also 2-0 at home.
This game will pit a defensive team against the league-leader in PPG. Rick says that we'll be seeing a lot more of our starters to start getting them some chemistry and Dirk will play the final two games.
Injuries
Acy - Mavs - Sprained foot
Beverly - Rockets - Knee surgery
Overall message
STOMP THE BEARD. Don't let the scrubs beat us.

My claim is Harden will not be a great player in his 30's. He already is a terrible defender and not a distributer and he gets his points off driving mostly and getting to the free throw line and he tends to get really fat in the summer, doesn't seem like a good combo to expect success later in his career. Who knows I could be wrong but I could see him being a mid level player or slightly better one day. It can happen there was a time when someone would be have been called crazy if they claimed Deron Williams would not be considered a top pg in his 30's and that happened.

First of a 30 game series against the Sprockets; the 11 men team beats the bearded-player for what I predict will be a 29-1 record this season against the other Texas team.
Mavs - 107
Sprockets - 101

The fact he is a terrible defender and distributor makes me hesitant to call him "great" now.

I'm pretty much with you but he gets ranked as a top 10 player on these lists for some reason. (Slam sports ranked him 7) I mean I can't say he's not a great offensive player but that's all he is. The league is just not star powered right now with Duncan, Kobe and perhaps Bosh's retirement theres not really a lot of superstars players right now.

Harden plays losing basketball he will never be great. You can't choose to give 0 effort on defense turn the ball over and dribble the air out of the ball for cheesy assists and be a great player. It's a loser brand of play.

Would be fun if the bench wins it. Put in Brussino again.

It will be interesting to see how often Simba ends up in the finishing lineup over Barnes if he has outplayed him.

Simba may take time from both Barnes and Wes at this rate tbh. Both have been underwhelming this preseason. JJ being our best penetration player we might need to put Wes in more lineups with JJ. Not saying bench necessarily but when doing rotations Wes might need to be on floor as much as possible with JJ.

Good point. Wes compliments JJ perfectly on both ends of the floor.

Deron Wes Barnes Dirk Bogut
JJ Wes Simba Dirk Bogut
The second one seems to have a lot more synergy

38 first half points vs the Rockets is insane. Preseason or not.

I don't think it was a good idea to give Barnes 24 million a year. We would have been better off developing Simba I think. Maybe Barnes can develop himself like a Chauncey Billups also under RC though but I'm just not sure he will ever be worth a max contract. Would be glad to be wrong. I"m afraid to say I can still see a worse case scenario where that's the worst contract in the NBA.

Barnes has been hot garbage on offense, but he does do a lot of the little things.

If that worse case scenario comes true we may have a new amnesty clause with new CBA starting in 2017 at least. None of us want that but at least if you are worried about him being that bad then we might have a way to take it off the books at least.
I think he will come around though, at this point I'm sure a lot of it is mental. He's just missing every single shot no matter how wide open. I'll start worrying when he is passing up open looks because he has no confidence. Till then strap urself in, this ride looks to be starting from rock bottom for him.

Guess Rocket fans don't have a lot to be excited about these days so they have to troll a Mavs forum when they win a pre-season game.

Thing with Barnes is that it's really only his shot not going in that looks off about his overall game. I realize this is a make shots or get out league, but once they start falling....he'll be dangerous.

I won't be worried about Barnes until I see him struggling into December. Even then, I'm going to be really patient with him and not expecting him to be our best player.
