So I guess we'll be seeing Dirk at the 5 now more often since Barnes looks great at the 4? Either way, a guy like Acy wont be seeing the floor much this season unfortunately

TMac tweeted that Mejri is fully available, but not fully healthy...I mean Powell is getting abused.

We've got nothing in the paint defensively when Bogut is out.

Horrible defense on 3s tonight...some things never change.
This is ugly. Tonights game reminds me of the year after the championship.

One bright spot is Barnes tonight. A GSW fan mentioned a while back that Barnes can look like LeBron at times but then completely disappear for several games.
Hope this isn't that one good night.

2011 - championship
Post championship - Forget that team try to find another star to eventually replace Dirk
October 2016 - still can't win without 38 year old Dirk

Where in the hell is the sense of urgency....down double digits with less than 7 mins left and last 3 possessions were down to last few shot clock seconds.

Oh boy, this could end up being a really, really long season. We have like one two-way player on the roster (Barnes), and I fully expect him to crash down to Earth. Every lineup RC puts together is a compromise-fest, and that is not his fault. This is a severely inbalanced roster with very few two-way players, and inconsistent shooters.
Also, I checked some videos of Matthews back in Portland, while it is true that he never had much lift on his shots, right now, he looks like ho barely uses his legs for it anymore, and it's all arm. That could explain the long threes (overcompensation). I have doubts he'll ever come close to his past offensive output. It's a shame, because he was a great player, but fully successful comebacks from achilles are extremely rare. There are like two guys in NBA history who did it.

I don't mind losing to good teams on the road in OT but getting virtually blown out in a home opener by what i consider an equal team at best isn't acceptable.

Matthews just doesn't look like he can get open. Every shot is heavily contested. Not a good sign considering this is a D'Antoni team we are playing.

This could be that one time where Carlisle magic doesnt work and the season predictions are right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
If this season is what it could be, I see this being Dirk's last year. Im being overdramatic but yeah.

Well you said there was a 0 chance that Barnes would be a star captain pessimistic, and yet he was 13-23 with 31 points in his second game as Mav.
Predictions might just not be your thing.

We easily win this game if it wasn't for can't miss against the Mavs Ariza. He only misses his shots versus basically every other team.

The worse part about this loss is the fact we are completely reliant on Dirk to have any chance at a win against average to above average teams which means a lot of minutes and a lot of wear and tear on an old body.
Think Budapest is right this could be a long season.

If I'm correct we virtually stopped Harden in the first half at least two of the games last season and then he torched us in the 2nd half.
Basically the same thing happened tonight.

You are hilarious, there is still zero chance of Barnes becoming a star, and you know how this number will change if he scores 50 in the next game? Nothing, it will stay at zero. Just think about what you are saying, and what words you are using. Do you know what a star means? Do you know that there is virtually no NBA player in the history of the game, who showed as little as Barnes - both skill-wise and in playing quality - up until they were 24, and became stars? None, not a single player, unless you count some college stars who came to the league at 23. I can't believe I have to run circles with you on this one. Or maybe star means a 16/6 player for you, in which case, you should stop using the word wrong.

It's his career high in points. I'd like to see more from him in that position. It's a shame that we have a hall of fame player in the same position.

But most star players never started out playing with 2 superstars in their prime and another young star. Barnes might not become a star but I think saying there is no chance of him becoming one is very premature.
He certainly has the physical tools to become one but not sure he has the mental tools. The right coaching and atmosphere will be a big factor for him to take his game to the next level.

Agree but I'm thinking we have someone to help limit Dirk's minutes now that can take on the scoring load and actually make us better on D at that position.
The big disappointment to me is the team as a whole....would have liked to see us succeed as a team with him having such a good game filling in for our star and putting up star-like numbers.

One observation was that Acy, Powell and Anderson should never be in the game together at the same time. Love the energy each of them bring but we don't need 3 energy guys in the game at the same time unless they are yielding some offense. Hustling and keeping the ball alive doesn't matter much if the ball never ends up in the basket.
