Let's just say I like our chances a whole lot better after the trade than before.
The Mavs have matched up well with the Spurs this season, winning the first game in SA 126-123 in OT.
Finley got that monkey off his back (you know what Im talking about) hitting 11-16 for 28pts, while grabbing 7rbs and dishing out 6as. Also turned it over 6 times. Nash hit 10-21 for 27pts, also had 4rbs and 5as. Dirk hit 9-17 for 26pts, 11rbs, 3as and 4stls. Hardaway and Manning were the only other real contributors.
On the flipside, Duncan went off for 53pts, 11rbs, 4as, 3blks and 6to. Smith, Bowen, Robinson and Porter weren't really factors but did give a little effort.
The second meeting we lost at home 105-103.
Nash only had 17pts on 8-19 shooting, but grabbed 4rbs and dished out 6as. Dirk shot 9-19 for 28pts, 14rbs, 4as and 3blks. Finley, didn't fare as well, but I believe this was his 2nd game back from his injury and went onto the IL to sit out the next 13 games. He contributed only 10pts, 3rbs and 4as before leaving the game with 6-7 minutes left. Najera and Wang were the only other contributors.
Duncan hit 10-18 for 29pts, 17rbs but fouled out of the game. Smith, Porter and Daniels put the hurt on us when Duncan wasn't. Still a 2 point loss isn't bad.
So, after all this rambling I've done, I believe the Mavs come out and give the Spurs fits like they did the Lakers the other night.
The key is to attack the basket when Robinson and Duncan are drawn away. Rebound and play Duncan straight up. I have faith that a combo of Dirk/Raef/Wang is better than Howard/Dirk.
Go Mavs!

The Mavs in a blowout, let's go Mavs. I'll be at the game, and rooting for our guys. I hope the Mavs blow these fags out.

Our guys will be on a huge high. We are now right up there, with as good a chance as the Lakers, Spurs, Kings (maybe even Portland) for the title. This would be a pretty cool game to watch, the way Dallas and the Spurs have been going recently...
This would be a big win for the Spurs, as it would bring them equal to us in the standings... oh and it would make it 11 in a row.
At least this time there will no Derek Anderson / Juwan Howard controversy

Why does San Antonio have to be on such a streak? Man, I thought they were toast by the All Star break. Man, I hate the Western Conference, there are just too many good teams. This is the Mavs' year, I don't think they'll get much better than they are right now, and they can't even get a little breathing room without the Spurs breathing down their necks. Portland suddenly realizing that they can beat anybody if they just keep their mouths shut and play as a team is also annoying. You notice how this year no one is really talking about the potential Finals matchup? The real finals this year is going to be the Western Conference finals, the actual Finals is an afterthought.

i think the key to the game tonite is the "kick-outs" of nash and nickie v. if they play the same style they used against the lakers on tuesday, the layups that nash got will be contested by the more athletic duncan and robinson and he will have to spot dirk and raef out at the arch. with shaq outside, once the pg's got to the bucket, they didn't have to worry about the swats, but i think the mobile big men of the spurs will try to help out more, which should leave open jumpers. please let dirk have a good nite tonite.

I there a worse possible result for the Mavs in the SA-LA game? Spurs blow them out and get a win against LA, but they get to rest all their key guys for the whole second half.
At least they have to travel.

Nekked the key will be when Nash gets penetration for him to find someone cutting (hopefully someone will be cutting to the basket) so he doesn't get the ball smacked back down his throat...

kid, you're right about hoping that someone is cutting to the bucket, but, unless eddie or buck is in the game, nash is gonna have to find a three-point shooter, cause no one else goes to the basket without the ball on a regular basis.

You're right, it's something I would love to see Fin and Dirk do more often, it would increase the HIGHLIGHT reels I'm sure

<< This is the Mavs' year, I don't think they'll get much better than they are right now, >>
They will get better with age they are very young and only have room to get better players become better defenders as they age. we will also get better by subtraction.
Lets look at the older players on our competitors teams
LA - Horry Fox (two major players both wont be around much longer)
SA - Robinson Smith Porter Ferry
Portland - Pippen - Davis
Sac - Divac Christie
all those teams have at least 2 players in there starting lineup that are really getting up there in age and are on there last leg.
our starting lineup
raef 24
dirk 23
griffin 27
Finley 29
Nash 28
off the bench
NVE 30
Wang 24
najera 25

Unless the game hits ot, I doubt it'll be a chalupa night.
Then again, I predicted the Blazers/Mavs game would be a low-scoring affair

Well, the most exciting thing on the pregame show was watching the Spurs announcers grasp their only true advantage over the Mavs:
The Spurs announcers can beat the MAVS announcers in a game of 2-on-2.
Pathetic.

Did you just see Nellie try to eat Popovich's tie? Too silly for pre-game to me.
Nellie should want to kick his ass.
I hope we drive to the hoop tonight!

Starting lineups:
Nash
NVE
Finley
Dirk
Raef
Parker
Charles Smith
Bowen
Duncan
Robinson
Nellie's basically saying, which guard do you want your defensive specialist to match up with? 'Cause I'll just ride the other two. I like it. A great time to get the all offense, all the time lineup it's first try.

Nash with yet another turnover. He needs to slow it down.
2-6 Spurs.
Way too many turnovers in the first few minutes. Dirk looks fine right now.
