AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) - The Detroit Pistons added depth and athleticism to their frontcourt Tuesday by signing free agent forward Darvin Ham.
Terms of the deal were undisclosed. Ham made just under $700,000 last season as a backup with Atlanta.
Ham averaged 2.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 12.3 minutes in 47 games during his only season with the Hawks. He averaged a career-high 5.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in the 1999-2000 campaign with Milwaukee.
While he has averaged only 3.2 points and grabbed just 2.6 rebounds in 316 NBA games, the 6-7 Ham is one of the more athletic players in the league. As an undrafted rookie out of Texas Tech, he competed in the 1997 Slam Dunk competition.
A solid defender and offensive rebounder, Ham will try to fit into a frontcourt rotation that includes Corliss Williamson, Tayshaun Prince and rookie Darko Milicic.
