@RadioFreeTom: Let's play Alternate Universe.
It's 2017, and President Hillary Clinton is facing charges that Chelsea met with Russians who offered oppo on Trump. Chelsea didn't call the FBI; and Clinton nat sec adviser Jake Sullivan lied to the FBI about talking to the Russians. /1
@RadioFreeTom: Sullivan is perp-walked into Federal court and pleads to a felony. Chelsea spends hours with congressional investigators and then mugs for the cameras with a cake that looks like Trump. /2
@RadioFreeTom: Meanwhile, Hillary, who has shady ties through various organizations to tons of Russian money and mobsters, refuses to release her tax records and refers to "existential" threats to her presidency from the crooked FBI. /3
@RadioFreeTom: In fact, in her first year in office, Hillary asks the FBI director to "let it go" on Jake Sullivan, and when he doesn't, she fires him. Deputy AG Sally Yates appoints an SC, a lifelong Dem. Hillary mulls firing him. /4
@RadioFreeTom: Then, at least three other Clinton campaign officials end up indicted. All of them are tied in some way to a hostile foreign power. Robby Mook is confined to his home with an ankle monitor. /5
@RadioFreeTom: As the 2018 midterms approach, Hillary publicly mentions how the FCC should crack down on broadcasters who lie, and maybe yank FOX's license. She also notes her warm relations with Nicholas Maduro and calls him to say hi. /6
@RadioFreeTom: I'm sure... totally sure... that stalwarts of the GOP would say: Look, this is a nothingburger, you can't define "collusion," it's just "the coffee boy," and on and on. /7
@RadioFreeTom: Let's cut the nonsense. The GOP would be in full impeachment mode, even without the completion of the special counsel investigation. This is not a partisan point; it's a common-sense point.
I don't mind having arguments, but I'd prefer to keep them here on Planet Earth. /8x

The problem is that the new era of don't believe anything you hear because you don't agree with it is not only dangerous, but it could be catastrophic. It does go both ways, but Trump supporters are especially just living in la la land with reality. If you interview these people, then you'd be shocked to find out that they honestly think he is the best president since George Washington. It's very hard to know where to go or what to do with those opinions.
The issues, from the Trump supporters I know, really stem from their hatred of Hillary and Obama. It's almost all misguided, but they would rather vote for shit in a can before voting for Hillary. And the Uber PC social media movement isn't helping the liberal cause...at all at least from their perspective.
So the reality is that the Liberals have to somehow come up with a 2020 presidential candidate that is somehow better than even Obama was in 2008. This can't just be a "put anyone like John Kerry in and we can win" type of thing. Trump supporters are a very big, and very dangerous base that too many still don't take seriously.

No, the reality is that liberals need to show the fuck up in 2018 -- Donald Trump would be completely toothless if the Republicans didn't have a majority in both Congress and Senate, in addition to the Supreme Court and State Governors. Conservatives aren't even close to being a majority in this country, but they keep winning everything because they're motivated enough to get out and vote.
If you look at the numbers, the clear majority in America today are non-voters, and most people don't vote because they don't think it makes any difference -- and with centrist Dems like Hillary supporting the same corporate oligarchy as the Republicans, they're absolutely right. If the Democrats want to start piling up victories, they need to give people something to vote FOR, rather than just voting against (because not every GOP candidate is going to be a pedophile)... And they can't just campaign on identity politics. No reason to abandon their platform of championing minorities, but in 2018 they need to present something tangible for the majority as well ("it's the economy, stupid!"), otherwise they don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of knocking Trump off his perch in 2020.

I still think all of that falls in line with having a good candidate. There is nothing inherently wrong with being a centrist Democrat, but Hillary was just a bad candidate all around.
If you're going to run Mark Cuban, the facebook kid, or Oprah Winfrey against Trump, then he'll get another for years for sure.

Happy 2018...
@jdawsey1: Today on Twitter: Trump taunted Kim Jong-Un and bragged about his nuclear button, called for potential prosecution of Huma Abedin and James Comey, threatened to strip Palestinian Authority funding, took credit for no airline deaths, attacked NYT, Democrats & vowed to build wall.

The IRS’ election-year quandary: When to boost Americans’ paychecks
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/...cks-irs-332183
Quote:
The agency is under pressure to take as little as possible so people will see big increases in their take-home pay ahead of this year’s midterm elections.
But that would come at a cost: smaller or even nonexistent refunds next year, though millions rely on them to plug holes in their family budgets. Democrats are already accusing the Trump administration of plotting "phantom windfalls" ahead of the November contest that will come back to haunt taxpayers next tax season.

Steve Bannon to face House Russia investigators Tuesday

Quote:
"You realize where this is going. ... This is all about money laundering. Mueller chose (senior prosecutor Andrew) Weissmann first and he is a money-laundering guy," Bannon is quoted as saying in Wolff's book. "Their path to f***ing Trump goes right through Paul Manafort, Don Jr., and Jared Kushner. ... It's as plain as a hair on your face."

@Khanoisseur: By the first year anniversary of his inauguration, Trump will have spent $75 million taxpayer dollars vacationing at/boosting his properties - that’s 187 years in POTUS salaries - and that’s not including taxpayer funded trips by his kids to India to boost Trump-branded projects.

Doesn't matter. Trumpites cry fake news to any and every negative thing reported about him. They won't even bother listening to anything from the NY times. You could have indisputable evidence of Trump skinning a baby on camera, and they'd still do it. They get empowered from negative stuff said/reported about him.
We've been hearing that Trump is guilty for a year now and yet nothing really happens to where he'll be impeached.

Patience -- it's no small thing to take down the president... Gotta get all of your ducks in a row because there are no second chances if you fail. It took 3 years to get Nixon, and his case was a lot more straightforward than Trump's.

Kushner’s overseas contacts raise concerns as foreign officials seek leverage
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...=.73e7fc562a2f
Quote:
Officials in at least four countries have privately discussed ways they can manipulate Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, by taking advantage of his complex business arrangements, financial difficulties and lack of foreign policy experience, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with intelligence reports on the matter.
Among those nations discussing ways to influence Kushner to their advantage were the United Arab Emirates, China, Israel and Mexico, the current and former officials said.

Jared Kushner, senior adviser and son-in-law to President Trump, had his security clearance downgraded Friday, sharply limiting his access to some of the nation’s most sensitive secrets amid concerns raised by the ongoing investigation of his background, two White House officials said Tuesday.

Hope Hicks to Resign as White House Communications Director

Her resignation came a day after she testified for eight hours before the House Intelligence Committee, telling the panel that in her job, she had occasionally been required to tell white lies but had never lied about anything connected to the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
