Default Covid

I just want to let everyone know that one of my co-workers tested positive for COVID-19. I have been sick as well so I got tested. I have to stay home until I receive negative test results. I'll know within 48 to 72 business hours at the lab. So that means hopefully no later than Wednesday.

Wish me luck. I'm worried about it. I don't know what I'll do if I have to stay home any longer than that.

Good luck, Kane. My sister has had a nasty time with it. She’s still sick two weeks into it, but seems to be progressing.

At first I had a sore throat and a runny nose. I thought I just had a cold. Then I started to have other symptoms: fever, heart palpitations, diarrhea, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, body aches, and a headache.

What I will be doing to battle it:

Drink half my body weight in ounces of water daily.
150 mg Zinc daily
1000 mg Vitamin C hourly to my tolerance
20,000 IU D3 (day one) and 10,000 IU D3 for a week
At least 20 Billion Probiotic daily
1200 mg Green Tea Extract (daily?)
1000 mg odorless garlic extract (friend recommended this)
1100 mg ginger root (something that I am already taking and think it could help with this)
Men's One A Day
Portable vaporizer (3 to 5 times hourly)
1/3 teaspoon pink Himalayan salt (with water daily)

I've honestly been bad about taking the Men's One A Day, the ginger root, and other things that I already had. I have to make a good habit of that from now on.

Also I gotta lay off the alcohol.

I haven't really had an update. Since the 4th I've been quarantined in my room, and I've only left my room to use the bathroom. That is until today. I drove to MCI Diagnostic Center and got retested for COVID-19. For those who don't already know they have drive-thru testing. Today they asked me why I was there, and I explained that I previously tested positive for COVID-19, and I needed negative results before I could return to work. They then offered a free antibodies test so I would then know if I had COVID-19 previously, and if I would even need the vaccine should I test negative from today's testing.

When I got home I've been on the phone trying to find out which doctors I can visit through a Multiplan that I have through my job. It's terrible insurance that is just barely legal. I did find some doctors who accept it, and I scheduled some doctor's visits that I can cancel should I test positive again. That is a real possibility as my co-worker who first tested positive is still positive after retesting this week.

thanks for the update

i'm not sure if the antibody test is useful at this point - it usually takes a while to develop antibodies and even if you test positive, who knows what that means other than that you've been exposed (and in your case actually tested positive)

hope you're feeling ok bud

One of my co-workers tested negative today. That gives me hope! That leaves 3 of us waiting for negative results. Hurrah!

I just got my results back. I'm still COVID-19 positive. My boss wants me to get retested on Saturday. I hope that'll be the last time I need to go before getting negative results.

How long have you had it for now? I'm guessing you have to test negative before going back to work again.

@DevinHarriswillstart I have definitely had it longer than when I first got tested on the 4th. Anyway, I am surprised that they ALREADY got my results back for me today. I'm COVID-19 negative! I am so happy!

Today I have a hive-type rash on my left hand, and I cannot think of anything that would have caused it. I doubt the glögg I just drank would have caused that. Before serving some glögg I washed my hands with hot water and used some liquid soap. Anyway, I am getting retested tomorrow to make sure I didn't get a false negative.

Dude I had red hands making dinner last night as well. I don't think yours is covid related. Sounds like an allergy.

I have no idea what could have triggered that reaction. This was before dinner. The only things that could have done it are the glögg and washing of my hands. Once the rash died down I tried to reproduce it (whether or not that is a good idea) by drinking another cup of hot glögg. It didn't happen though.

The only other thought I have in regards to what could have triggered it is that I went with my Dad to Micro Center to get him a new tablet. Upon entering the store they sprayed my left hand with some sanitizer. I don't know what was in it exactly, but maybe I had a reaction to it? If so, strange.

Happened 3 times now. Didn't happen the following day, but it occurred last night in the same spot and again tonight but now on my right hand. Also I've felt extra tired each time the rash appears. Maybe post-COVID symptoms? Hope I get my results back soon so I get confirmation whether or not I am COVID-19 negative or not. Regardless, tomorrow I am paying the doctor I saw on the 24th a visit to get the paperwork I need to return to work. Then I can decide whether or not I feel ready I guess.

I got the clearance to return to work! I just hope these post-COVID symptoms don't last for months.

My friend had Covid rash several times a few weeks after being infected. It eventually stopped.

Yeah, I listened to a podcast about after effects. The fancy term for them is sequelae. What it is is that the virus is gone, but the effects of the virus can still linger.

You should be fine to go back to work as long as you test negative.

Dang... I know my g/f didn't get COVID-19 from me. She thinks she got it as the hospital as she nearly just lost her father. Anyway, her temperature is between 103.6 to 103.7°F. Also she's lost her sense of taste and smell. This sucks. I'm giving her all of the advice that I can.

There was an article here in AZ about over 5,000 going unused.

It’s been a disaster here

Then I would imagine that's a result of bureaucratic incompetence rather than the general public simply being uninterested in the vaccine.

I didn't say I was "hearing" stories. I'm talking about news accounts. I guess they could be just making it up.

I misread "seeing" as "hearing. My mistake.

Still, I stand by what I said about that- if it's true- being the result of poor distribution and bureaucratic incompetence rather than the supply outweighing the demand.

That's likely because they aren't allowing us "normal" people to get them yet.

Like seriously, here they have protocols for the healthcare workers, elder, and preexisting conditions to get them. Then is it's basically the wild west for everyone else...

It has to do with the rules each state sets for prioritization. The cdc set recommendations, but states make their own rules. The stories I’ve seen have been about New York. Apparently Cuomo wanted healthcare workers to be the absolute priority, even though more lives would be saved by vaccinating the elderly and people with conditions. In Texas the elderly and sick are on the same level as healthcare workers, so no doses have been going to waste.

Yeah, I would think you're right about the demand exceeding the supply right now. I did also see reports that in, I think it was CA, 30% of health care workers were declining to take the vaccine. That could account to some extent for some of the vaccine not getting used yet.

I'm leaving the house in a few minutes for my appointment to get my first dose of what I think is the Moderna vaccine.

Holy moly, I am wildly impressed! The nurse stuck me at precisely my appointment time, 6:20. The whole process is running like clockwork. Christus Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler is on the ball. I'm now waiting my 15 minutes to see if there is any allergic reaction.

Congrats! Do you mind if I ask if you're of the groups 1a or 1b? You don't have to answer though. Just curious if any normal healthy people are getting it yet.

I got vaccinated yesterday. I waited until the 91st day after I got my negative results since I read that you should wait 90 days, especially if you were a long hauler. My second dose will be on April 14th.

Glad you got vaccinated. Emerging data indicating the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) might have a positive effect on long haulers and other suffering lingering symptoms of their illness. It seems to be attacking residual latent virus deep in the body thereby relieving the pain and suffering of long haulers.

Since my grandma fell at home, had to stay in the hospital, got infected there because it was hammered with people who didnt take it seriously, spent her last months alone in isolation and just my mom could say good bye...yeah i would say fuck Luka, bye Luka and trade his ass to OKC for a gazillion picks.

I dont care who, i have zero tolerance after 18 months and what happened to my grandma
