Interestingly, we're actually back in the second seed now because of Utah's loss last night.

I'm interested to see how we match up with them.
I don't see an easy first round foe but I suspect it may be these guys even though they recently took out Boston at home.
We've struggled against Portland and SA is a different team with a healthy Manu (which they haven't had in 1+ years including last year's series).
Let's go, Mavies. Play your best for 48 minutes, puleeze.

A huge factor might be the newly created "Durant Rules"
The kid is getting to the line a TON, he ranks second in the league with 10.1 a game. Our team average is 22.4. Over the last 10 games he's going at a clip of 11.7/game.

Go Mavericks!!!
Well, it's going to be tough. But it's good to hear that Butler is feeling a little better. Apparently, he has not been 100% the past few games. Hopefully that's the cause of his poor play as of late.
Quote:
DALLAS -- Aside from barking apparent expletives at fans in Portland (netting a $25,000 fine from the league), Caron Butler hasn't done much talking. He made a quick escape after Thursday's off-night in which he was held without a field goal and he breezed by reporters following Saturday morning's shootaround.
With six games remaining in the regular season starting tonight at the American Airlines Center against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and with the playoff seeding race tighter than ever, the Dallas Mavericks need their starting shooting guard to start letting his play do his talking.
Butler is mired in a four-game shooting slump, in which he's gone 13-of-36 from the floor. His three-point effort against Orlando was his worst -- 0-of-4 from the floor -- since joining the Mavs over the All-Star break. In his last eight games, he's finished with 12 or fewer points six times and in single digits three times.
Butler isn't talking, but Mavs super-teammate Jason Terry swooped in for the rescue.
"I don't know if anybody knows, but he was sick, so he hadn't eaten for two or three days. I mean, he had a stomach virus, same thing I had in Portland, I mean it went through the team, J.J. [Barea] had it," Terry said. "So, I think he's eaten in the last couple of days. He should be back at full strength tonight. It took me four days to get rid of that thing. You don't have any energy. It's tough."
Terry had the bug in Portland and Butler missed Wednesday morning's shootaround prior to facing Memphis that night. Butler played and had 11 points and 13 rebounds in 27 minutes.
"He knows what he has to do for this team," Terry said. "Like I said, he's been sick, so that's a good excuse for him."
Coach Rick Carlisle said Butler was struggling with the bug for a couple of days, but he seems OK now. Carlisle, though, said he can't be sure if the virus has run its course.
"I don't know, I haven't heard anything today," Carlisle said. "It seems to come and go."

That and I'm sure it's a slump in general. People call for Dirk's head if he has 1-2 bad shooting nights in a row. I mean seriously, they're professionals but they're still human! They have highs and lows, Butler is a proven scorer...I'd rather him have the funk now and be ready when it's time for the playoffs.

I can't stand watching Durant and that queer little swoop under the defender's arms where he draws shooting fouls without actually attempting a shot.

This. This. This. This. He literally doesn't even get the ball at the basket when he does that. He just swings his arms under you and the ball drops to the floor while he shoots 2/3 fts. Are you kidding me? TD does that move and Dirk occasionally. But when they do it (much rarer) it's when the defender is cheating forward, and they actually get the shot up. Durant literally pushes his lanky ass arms under the defender and just drops the ball.

Not his fault...blame the league for making the rules...if the defender is encroaching on the offensive player's space, the latter does not have to shoot at the basket, he has to be in shooting motion. This is not too dissimilar from what Kidd did to Woodson. Kidd was justified in extending an arm because by NBA rules the coach is not supposed to in that space (unless Kidd went out of bounds, it would be within his rights to extend an arm assuming Woodson wasn't there).
It is called finding a loophole and using it to your advantage. Reggie Miller did it and now Durant, Billups, Melo etc. are doing it too. Is it elegant basktball? No, but the idea is to win and style points don't contribute to wins/losses.

Not at all. Durant swings his arms forward INTO the defender when they aren't encroaching his space.

There isn't really a loophole, the refs are just misinterpreting the rules. I think that is the root of the problem people have with what Durant is doing. If the offensive player initiates the contact, it's supposed to be a no-call. I think the officials just get caught up in the moment, much like they do with flop artists like Ginobili, Paul Pierce, JJB, etc.

It's a great move, Dirk should have been doing this move years ago. Duncan was probably the first one to really perfect it. You're smart if you use it but it sucks if you wear another jersey other than Mavs.

I can't find a video of Durant doing it but those plays are no different than the ones shown on NBA's video rulebook (second and third example):
http://www.nba.com/videorulebook/category.html?cid=68
If the defender's arms are stretched horizontally in the direction of the offensive player, you can't stop the latter from making that move everytime.

Actually, they are different. Especially when a defender's arms aren't even outstretched, and Durant extends his arms well away from his body into the defender. Part of that has to do with his freakish arm length. There are very few players who get that call. If it is a rule, it should be a rule for every player in the league, and it isn't. The refs have created that loophole for him, much like they have with Diva's out of control stumbling through the lane untouched for a call, and Lebron's crab dribble. Why hasn't Dirk found that loophole? I see him getting hacked and impeded with the ball extended away from his body all day without a whistle. Durant has been pegged as the future and is protected as such.
