Default Aikman, Smith and Irvin to Ring of Honor

The Cowboys will hold a news conference at 6 p.m. today to announce Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin will be added to the club's exclusive Ring of Honor, several sources said.

This is one hell of a press conference. Man, I miss the glory days of the 90's.

Give Jerry Jones credit for realizing that letting these players go was the best for the franchise to move forward..

Well, Irvin couldn't play anymore. Aikman played until he couldn't play anymore. Emmitt kept it up to add yards to the record, else he may have taken the same route.

And exactly how much have they moved forward?

I'm sorry, but I don't exactly get your point.

2000: 5-11
2001: 5-11
2002: 5-11

2003: 10-6
2004: 6-10

Jerry Jones cut ties with the players and coaches of the glory years and got himself a new coach in 2003.
Cuban is doing the same with the players that were associated with the nice run the mavs had. Even though we never won the whole thing, we did come close a few times and won quite a few regular season games, but unfortunately it never produced into a championship team in the playoffs. It was definitely a very exciting team to cheer for though without a doubt. He also has decided to bring Avery in instead of keeping Don Nelson (or promoting Donnie Nelson) as our coach. The mavericks of a few years ago are no more which what was the necessary thing to happen for the franchise to move forward towards the future.. Losing Nash last year was the exclamation point to this process.

I'm glad they're going in together. It's how it should be.

A little bit surprised they're going in this soon. Credit to JJ.

I wonder how the "ring" will be incorporated into the Jerrydome.

Ya think it will be prominently displayed between the seating decks (encircling the playing field)? - or set aside in a separate part of the stadium (america's team museum and amusement park)?

When you look at the current status of the MLB and NFL in the American Lexicon, perhaps one day the Cowboys ROH will rival the significance and panaché of the Yankee's Legends memorial...

I think it does already, at least its in a class by itself in terms of the rest of the NFL teams without a doubt.

Great move by Jerry. Seems you aren't eligible to be in the HOF without being in the Ring of Honor if you're a Cowboy that is.

They were three of the greatest cowboys ever. This is a good way to celebrate them at the same time
