I wonder if this wasn't a favor to his agent to give him a chance to sign a 10-day somewhere and maybe lay the groundwork for a min-salary deal in the summer.

Finally.Good for him because, i hope that he will find team wher he get some minutes.
And good for us because he waste our time.In my opinion DoJo was never good player.

Mavs' patience w/Dominique Jones dwindling for some time. When they wanted to send him to D-League & DoJo balked, Mavs opted to let him go

The question now is who will be added. Well, guys who are available are Tracy Mcgrady, Gilbert Arenas, Allen Iverson, Eddy Curry, or the return of DELONTE WEST.

Give Delonte another shot. He'd make a better back up point next year than Collison. Give the guy two years at vet minimum and that should keep him happy.
Won't happen though as Cuban is too damn stubborn.

As blah as Dallas' drafting has been in some seasons, I usually feel like it's short-sighted to criticize the Mavs for drafting poorly because they just haven't had good drafting position. When I look back over the latter part of the first round of the 2010 draft, however, and see that Greivis Vasquez was selected three spots after DoJo, I have to admit to a bit of frustration.

Can't see them dropping down to 2 PGs on the roster, so I'd be very surprised to see Roddy let go before the end.

Pretty much goes without saying that upgrading the PG position will be high on Dallas' list of summer priorities. As long as they do that it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other whether Mike James is on the roster.

And good for Cuban if he were stubborn on that issue.

I understand what you're saying about poor position, but when you start looking at specific years, that really isn't a good excuse for the FO. They consistently make the wrong decision between options, and they frequently draft guys much earlier than needed.
You mentioned one such year, but there are others. Immediately come to mind:
-They took Fazekas over Glen Davis when it was obvious to anyone who had watched that year's NCAA tournament that Davis would be a very solid contributing roleplayer, and Fazekas likely wouldn't.
-They took Cunningham last year in the first round when he almost positively would have been there in the mid-to-late second round. Bizarrely, they took Cunningham with the first of their 3 picks and then used the latter two picks on players who are significantly better than Cunningham and were more likely to get selected in the interim (although luckily neither was).
I'm sure we can come up with others. I have a lot of faith in the Mavs' FO in many areas, but the draft isn't one of them.

Fazekas/Davis is definitely one that deserves mention, though as that one predates Rick's tenure with the team I don't factor it in when judging the drafting performance of the current front office trio. An argument can also be made for Booby over Taj Gibson, though in that case I don't think the breakdown was talent evaluation. Too early to judge Cunningham IMO, but if you're going to criticize them for drafting him before a couple (relatively) successful second round choices, don't you also have to give them credit for the two second rounders?
I will say, though, that I'm definitely having a hard time talking myself into being optimistic about the draft. I'll be more than a little relieved if they can find a productive way to trade out of the pick.

Agree. Getting Dirk was like a 17-run home run but our batting average is pretty trash. Howard is the other dude. That's it over the last 10+ years IRCC.
A couple steal rookie FAs like Daniels and Barea but in terms of draftees, we're big-time volume shooters.

We actually drafted a couple decent guys (Zeller, Mullens) but just never kept them.

Maybe it's too early, but I am immensely confident that Cunningham will never amount to anything of significance in the NBA.
And yes, they should get credit for a couple decent second-round picks. They also should get credit for Roddy, IMO, because the problem there came well after the draft. But the misses sure do seem to pile up a lot more than the hits....

I was listening to Follow a day or two ago, and he was saying that the guys in the first ten slots of the second round hit at a three in ten rate. That seemed awfully high to me, but okay. If the Mavs hit on both Crowder and James, that's pretty damn salty.
Don't know what to say about the rest of it, except that if you want draft disappointment you should have been here in the Doug White days like some of us were. The present FO would have a ways to go if they wanted to match that legendary kind of ineptitude.
EDIT: Or Doug Smith, or Randy White, or whoever the hell it was, time and again.

Interesting RC Comment
Have you already got in mind who you want back here next year?
Rick Carlisle: I've got an idea, but there's a lot to be determined. For example, Beaubois has been in and out of this year. But he's had some good days in practice recently, in shootaround he was real energetic this morning. I take not of that, and if there's an opportunity to play him in an upcoming game in some meaningful minutes, I'm not going to hesitate. He's showing me that he's ready. There have been other guys who have done that too. Brandan Wright got back into it with that sort or daily approach.
this is a quote from rc's presser on friday 10-8 but roddy did not touch the court in detroit.

They compared their playing style, not their talent level. They compared him with Stuckey and i think that was the overall hope of level he could reach....

I'm a little confused about what "hit" means. Hit as starters, 8 man rotation, in the league, what?

Should have done it at training camp. Then they could have filled the PG position more adequately later in the season.
And the Mavs mistake on Roddy was not trading his @ss about two years ago when his stock was high. But they put the "No trade Roddy" to all the teams.... and now they couldn't given him away for a bag of beans.

It's not like we didn't give him a fair chance. We let the dude start for god's sake. He also played significant minutes for a portion of the season. Just disappointing.
