ESPN's Weekend Dime displays clutch stats compiled by Elias Sports Bureau. These are whenever a player takes a shot in the last ten seconds of a game which is tied, or the shooting team is within three points.

In the past three seasons the top players in made shots respective to the above criteria are:

Most FGs Made In Clutch*, Past Three Seasons

Player FGs
Kobe Bryant 10-21
Dirk Nowitzk i8-13
Carmelo Anthony 8-16
Rudy Gay8-17

* Clutch defined as the last 10 seconds of a game tied or trailing by three or fewer

Obviously, Dirk has the best shooting percentage among the top producers with only Kobe making more of these shots.

I don't understand this meme going around recently that Kobe is killing his team by taking clutch shot opportunities. Think about it. You want Dirk deferring to Stackhouse or JJB?

Nah, by "taking," I just meant Kobe had more opportunities than anyone else.

Obviously he should be taking them.

Nice to see Dirk has the highest percentage though...

We aint just talking last ten seconds though. Well, by "we", I mean people. Often (and exacerbated recently) Kobe has been taking flat out stupid shots down the stretch in games instead of utilizing Pau.

And I'm sure you wold prefer Dirk prefer to JJB.

Rep for the find.

Funny thing is, this is a great stat indicative of clutchness...but who will see it? Very few people. This is the type of thing I wish announcers would bring up in televised games rather than rhetoric.

I'm sure that Followill can make note of it tonight since 2 of the players are on the court tonight. If he doesn't know, I can bring it to his attention....but I'm pretty sure he's aware of it.

Good stuff. Though mostly I mean National Announcers (ESPN, TNT, etc.) because I think most Dallas announcers/writers know how clutch Dirk is.
