Fair Enough for Shaq?
I have no idea where Shaq will end up up this offseason (hopefully Dallas)...but if Coach K does indeed agree to go to LA...I think that's the final nail in the coffin for Shaq staying with the Lakers. Even if he doesn't go...it's hard for me to envision O'Neal sporting a Lakers uniform next season. What teams can realistically acquire Shaq? I think 4 teams...Dallas, Sacramento, Memphis, and Indiana.
Is this a good enough offer from Dallas?
Dallas trades Antoine Walker, Christian Laettner, Tony Delk, Josh Howard, Pavel Podkolzine, 2007 1st round draft pick, and cash
Dallas receives Shaquille O'Neal
Why Dallas does it? To get the big fella.
Why LA does it? They get expiring contracts in Walker and Laettner. They get 2 young kids in Howard and Podkolzine. Cash and 1st round draft pick is just bonus.
What can Sacramento offer? They could offer Webber, Miller, and Jackson. Talent wise...that's a better package than Dallas...but LA would not want to be stuck with Webber's remaining 4 year 70 million contract. And no doubt...the Maloofs will try to get rid of Webber in any deal involving Shaq. LA gets no expiring contracts, no young players in the deal.
What can Memphis offer? They have a lot of young players...but they don't have enough big contracts to equal Shaq. In other words, they would have to trade most of their team to get Shaq.
What can Inidiana offer? I think Jermaine O'Neal is off limits. But again just like Memphis...they have a lot of young talent but not enough big contracts.
I think Dallas has positioned themselves the best to acquire Shaq. Our roster after the Shaq trade...
PF Nowitski Benga
SF Finley Najera
C Shaq Bradley
PG Harris Steffanson
SG Daniels Stackhouse
I would love to use the LLE on Malone or Ostertag or a veteran PG...just add some more depth.

RE:Fair Enough for Shaq?
Not worth it...no... I'd like to wait and see if Pavel developes rather than giving him up now. With his size, youth, and good control of arms/legs he himself could become the next Shaq. Sure that's probably a stretch, but do you want to take that chance? I think he could atleast be as good as Yao who will be the best center in the NBA in about 2-3 years.

RE:Fair Enough for Shaq?
Our bench would be very bad and thin, if a Shaq trade would happen...
With some injuries we would be bad.
Stack the only Scoring Help of the bench, and Stefanson is not ready i think...

RE:Fair Enough for Shaq?
Finley, Dirk and Shaq would be enough to get it done. The other possibility is that shaq is just blowing steam and will be back. Memphis would have to trade half of its team to get it done. I think they ar emore interested in Kobe. Sacramento could get it done with Webber as the center piece of a package. After all kobe, webber and Miller would allow the Lakers to still contend for the title. Webber and Miller can take a back seat to Kobe.

RE:Fair Enough for Shaq?
I'd do it in a second. But I'd try to substitue Harris for Pavel (I'd think L.A. would like that). My reasoning is this: I think we're ok at guard, even without Nash, because I think Daniels is a real player, Stefansson will become one, and Fin and Stack still have a few good years. You don't get many chances to get a decent center, and Pavel could be one. I think we could find guards more easily.
Probably could even find somebody serviceable by trading Fortson or Bradley--with Shaq, Pavel & Dirk I don't think we'd need them both.

RE:Fair Enough for Shaq?
I think the Mavs get it done with less. Maybe one more deal is done to bring in the final pieces.
Latener - definitely part of that trade (definitely if K agrees to coach LA)
Walker- definitely part of the Shaq trade
Stackhouse- Probably part of the trade, although I could see Fin going in his place.
Howard- I'd hate to see him go, but if Stack or Fin Dog goes who is going to play the 3 Dirk?
Moves will be made toward acquiring Shaq this week, it's going to be a real interesting 2 week period.

RE: Fair Enough for Shaq?
Antoine Walker, Christian Laettner, Pavel Podkolzine, Delk the core of a decent swap.
I would try to keep Josh Howard.
Perhaps add Fortson on this end, Payton on theirs. Or let them have TAW who has insurance coverage not Fortson, and THEN they can have the #1 and cash.
You do NOT want to trade Harris. NO WAY. The kid will be good this year in a shared role, very good in 2 years, and an All-Star PG in 3 yrs.
Trade Pavel, keep Mbenga. I think Mbenga has a surer upside, Pavel is too much of a dice roll.

I agree with this rationale. If you can keep Stackhouse on hand for one more deal (for K. Thomas) you'd be in great shape.
Shaq - Bradley - Benga
Nowitzki - K. Thomas - Najera
Finley - Howard
Daniels
Payton - Harris

I agree... although I think you will be talking Fischer in a SNT instead of Payton.
Shaq - Bradley - Benga
Nowitzki - K. Thomas - Najera
Finley - Howard
Daniels - Stefansson
Fischer - Harris - Avery Johnson
Wouldn't surprise me if this is the lineup anyway ( I can hope).

RE: Fair Enough for Shaq?
I would take Fisher as well, but I think LA would prefer to move Payton and retain Fish. I woud take either one. The trade needs to include choices that they prefer
