Texas Farm Bureau for insurance.

Not sure of any forums though. Good luck and please remember, leather chaps are not really necessary to enjoy your bike.

From the marriage thread
1) always listen to what she has to say
2) if she yells at you, give her some time to herself-- and then secretly take her to a specialist
3) when you are with her, make her feel like she's the only one
4) paying for regular mainenance is usually cheaper than paying for the big blowup

I'm with Murph on this one. Motorcycles scare me.

Smiles, you must have one bada$$ mom. My mom, not so much. I haven't spoken to her in years, but I doubt she'd ride a motorcycle. She does teach yoga, so I'll give her a plug though she's done nothing for me lately (bitter? no, not me!). I just googled her and found out she's on the web. http://www.yogadoctor.com/Classes-nia.htm

Crazy. "She has a passion for helping people find their optimum levels of health and wellness." That's taken from the website. Too bad she didn't have a passion for raising her two kids and decided she had a passion for her lesbian girlfriend instead of my wonderful dad.

Oops. Think I've got this thread a bit off track... I may need therapy.

One of my best friend's is a doc primarily working in the ER.. his brother works in an ICU. You cannot even begin to imagine how many of the people that go in there are from motorcycle accidents or from not wearing your seatbelt.

Thanks all, having just been declared free of cancer after having my thyroid removed with a 5mm growth, I've figured "carpe diem" and living "freer" and after putting the kids through college I figure go for it.

Kind of wanting to live the Tim McGraw song.... "sky divin, rocky mountain climbing, bull riding"....thing. Just enjoying life and plan to go to a lot more Mavs games!

(Though... I thank Murph for the cautions and all for their help.)

Go Mavs!!!!!

Um, about the insurance: check progressive.

It may be expensive if this is your first motorcycle, but it goes down drastically after a year. (Mine went down by 100%)

Congrats on being cancer free! That is awesome!!

And I agree with vjz regarding Progressive. I used to sell insurance for an agency and more often than not, Progressive beat the competitors. I worked for Summit Global Partners in Fort Worth. They represent many different insurance companies. You ought to give them a try. They'll find you a good rate.

Enjoy the ride. Harley's are more for relaxed cruising, so should be safer. Don't listen to Murph

Don't ride for too long stretches. Pressure on your main 'nut' artery can have a negative impact on your love life...

Dirt: Don't listen to Murphy. He pursues his own kind of life-threatening danger.

I like your method of embracing life. It's at least a tiny bit more respectable and responsible than my own father's method of "living it up" after his 2 rounds with cancer. I think he's slowed down these past few months, but I haven't spoken to him often enough to know how "true" that is. Oh goody, here comes the guilt! You put your kids through college? I always have tremendous appreciation for parents who help their children go to college.

Raef: My mom got out of her oppressive life and marriage a couple years ago, and I guess the motorcycle lets her spirited streak out now. If I look like her at 51, and have half her warmth and kindness, then I'll be one awesome chica! Want me to send your mom some hate mail? j/k Geez, she really tore up your childhood. Nothing like a parent who recklessly F's up their kid's life!

I must say that you stumped me with this response. I looked at it several times and thought maybe you had posted in the wrong thread. However, after closer inspection, you are correct. Genius.
