Default Start Barea

He fits best as a starter to our team. Harris off the bench. Adios Rondo.

Barea Started the game and was a good game from Dallas, but GS was too much for our Team. Cuban was Unhappy, you can bet that before the trade dead line we would have a new Back Up Center that can rebound, play defense and a 3 point specialist as Shooting guard. Say bye to Smith

3-1 with Barea. And the one loss was against the best team. Barea is streaky. But he does keep defenses honest. Lillard only 7-19 btw.

You just made an argument to keep Rondo as the starter.

So we beat two scrub teams without Rondo in the lineup (something that is to be expected). We had an epic defensive collapse against Golden State. Perhaps a defensive-minded PG might have helped contain that. We had one quality win against Portland that Barea had a little to do with, but by no means was a "catalyst".

Besides the lack of good defense, Barea take take too many difficult shots when he is attacking the basket looking for fouls.

Barea wasn't good enough to be a consistent starter on the Timberwolves. Glad Rick Carlisle is our coach and not you. Rick starts him when he has to.

4-1 now with Barea starting. And we finally beat a good team. Lillard 7-19. Results look good so far. The Wolves are a bad team. Not surprising Barea failed there.

You know jj was absolutely terrible for the first 48 minutes of the game last night right? He played hard but really really bad.

^ This. Never confuse effort for results. JJ tries hard every night. He has to. It doesn't always equal good results. Hence the reason why he is not a "starting point guard" and is the epitome of a "reserve". Someone is hurt. It's his time to fill a role until that person comes back from injury. Despite being a fan favorite because of his effort, this is the most he will ever amount to. He knows this. That's why he came back to Dallas to be a reserve and not a starter. He doesn't have the natural abilities of the starting PG's in this league, that's why he has to try hard every night.

One compliment I will definitely give him is that he's done a great job of creating a shot since his last stroll through here.

you are right an thats why he is on this team. RC love guys that show some effort and heart for the game. for an Under size player for this League he is Fantastic. Then again he need stop forcing some plays that could end up on basket on the other end of the court. And still think he can do better effort on defense.

Everyone has bad shooting games. But being a threat is what makes you important for spacing. Barea allows Dirk to excel better than Rondo due to being a bigger perimeter threat. Now if people started guarding Barea like they do Rondo, Barea would have a career high game. That's how bad Rondo's shooting is.

What allowed dirk to excel was that they kept switching the pick and roll and unlike most of this season we were content to go to dirk for a bunch of possessions in a row in the high post

Barea shooting 40% from the field and 33% from downtown this season...so maybe cut the "bad shooting games".

he has a bad shooting season.

barea is still defensive liability.
I think he does not deserve starting role.

PG Rajon Rondo, JJ Barea, Raymond Felton
SG Monta Ellis, Devin Harris
SF Chandler Parsons, Richard Jefferson, Ricky Ledo
PF Dirk Nowitzki, Al-Farouq Aminu, Charlie Villanueva
C Tyson Chandler, Greg Smith, Dwight Powell

Without reviewing the full 14 man roster as we have it I didn't realize how many forwards we had. With the addition of both Jermaine O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire we gotta part ways with the obvious choice here... Greg Smith. Sucks that we have to say goodbye to him so soon. Hopefully the Mavs can work out a trade so we don't lose him for absolutely nothing. I'd take a 2nd rounder.

NO NO NO

JJ would have to start next to Rondo then. While Monta be our 6th man. Because when playoffs hit Mavs are going to need the defense Rondo adds.

Like we did on the 2011 Play off, worked on the pass and could work again. But the point is if Rondo would accept a role like that?

You know Kidd was the real help for him when he did start right? You know that Kidd was our best defensive PG too? Just like someone we have on the roster now... Who's also a PG.

Yeah, Barea was 6-10 because he dribbles the ball until the second moon can be seen from Reunion Tower and then chucks up a shot. He didn't have a terrible game against the Clippers, but he and Harris just haven't been bringing it lately. Harris dealing with nagging injuries (again) and Barea doing his Harlem Globetrotter dribbling isn't helping the team. I think all of Rondo, Barea, and Harris have bi polar games. It needs to be sorted out by the time the playoffs get here.

Yes since he was supposed to carry us to victory without Chandler and Ellis. Also I agree that Harris is struggling lately. That's why losing Wright was like losing the effectiveness of Harris. Hope we get Amare.

I think it's more than Wright. Anytime Harris gets injured (when we thought it was a knee hyperextension) his effectiveness plummets. Amazed he's even playing.

How do his stats prove whether or not he should start. Is anyone arguing that he shouldn't be on this team and getting PT? Mavs fans love Barea. The argument shouldn't be "is JJB good?" or "can JJB start for a couple of games while other people are injured?"

The question should be, "are we happy with JJB starting for a whole season in place of Rondo?"

How I answer that? A definitive NO. I love Barea, but he isn't a starter.

Clippers -6
Blazers -1
Kings +18 (in a blowout)
Warriors -3
Wolves +17
Magic +16

Looks like he's been good against bad teams (Magic, Wolves, KingS) and has been a net negative against the good ones (Clips, Blazers, Rockets)

Neither should Rondo. Both have weaknesses. Rondo kills our offense. Barea is slightly weak on defense and streaky. We still need to fix our starting point guard situation. Rondo wasn't the answer. And now with these injuries, we got more problems. Might even miss the playoffs.
