@MavsDraft: Shams is being interviewed on NBA XM Radio and just dropped a shortlist of the favorites for Horford and the 4 teams he listed were lakers and mavs, then a pause to list Philadelphia and Houston.

Three championship contenders and the big money payout?

yeah, supposedly Stein said that Cuban wants either Kemba or Brogdon, but both are long shots to happen.

Kamm on DB gave this summary:

STEIN:

Mavs have been vacillating between chasing Kemba (Mavs are the team the Hornets are the most worried about) or Brogdon (he alludes to Brogdon being gettable because Lopez and Middleton are going to cost a TON to keep, but it will cost a lot potentially to knock Brogdon free) VERY hard (this is what Cuban wants to do)....

OR

....splitting their cap between two (maybe three) guys (this is what the Mavs fans should expect).

D'Lo makes no sense to Stein on the Mavs....Stein personally doesn't like the fit of Kemba with Luka and KP.

Mavs already got their guy in February....KP....he was their target this summer anyway.

It is too soon to expect Luka and KP to attract other players (vet players are not waiting to play with Luka yet)....Mavs need to wait for that to happen in future years.

If its true that Adams is available form OKC, I would do anything to get him in alongside Luka and KP. He would be another great fit and would thrive even on offense with Luka creating for him.

Can we do anything?

Brogdon just got a little harder to acquire...

@wojespn: Milwaukee is trading Tony Snell to Detroit, league source tells ESPN.

Adams contract is absolutely brutal and we have very little to offer.

Milwaukee has shed some salary trading Tony Snell. Brogdon train has left the station for sure.

@BobbyMarks42: Milwaukee could create up to $14M in room and bring back Brook Lopez using cap space. The $22M+ in cap holds of Malcolm Brogdon and Khris Middleton give Milwaukee an advantage when it comes to creating room. It also gives them a buffer when it comes to the tax.

@ZachLowe_NBA: Going this route and ducking the luxury tax is going to be tricky without even factoring in Mirotic (who may well just be a tax casualty at this point barring another big cost-cutting move.) A huge Brogdon offer sheet would very much complicate Milwaukee's life.

I don't think 18 gets it done, but 22 should, and the full 27 most certainly does... Do we go full-Parsons on Brogdon?

Steven Adams.

Adams/KP/Doncic frontcourt would be whiter than Gregg County, but wouldn’t be awful

Give me horford wayyyyyyyyyyyyy before adams. Also on the rebounding front horford is one of those guys who contributes to team rebounding more than individual rebounding.

Horford is also infinitely better as a playmaker which wouldn't be cringe-worthy to watch like DAJ was half of last year. And clearly Since the Mavs wanted Bogut to do those things and encouraged DAJ to do them they would welcome a 5 who can playmake from that high post like Al.

I don't see them, especially Cuban, wanting to pay 33yr old Al 100m though. That goes against what Cuban and this MBT have done going back to the beginning with aging vets. They didn't even retain their own guys like Nash and TC for fear of breaking down or injury. And they certainly didn't offer 4yr deals to them which is what Horford allegedly is seeking. I just don't see it.

Cuban has already acknowledged that Nash and Chandler were mistakes, but this is obviously not the same thing.

Steven Adams was born in Rotorua, New Zealand, to a Tongan mother and an English father. His father, Sid Adams, served in the Royal Navy and later settled in New Zealand where he fathered 18 children with five women.

Yeah, and from the other side, Gregg County is only 75% White.

Neighboring Upshur County at 88% or Wood County at 91% would've been statistically funnier.

I don't disagree until you realize that Adams is ONLY 25. He is not as good of a playmaker or shooter as Al but he is more than good enough to fit in well here.

Just saw the Snell trade to Detroit. Hindsight has me wondering, since Powell opted in, if the Mavs could've traded him for Snell and the 30th pick. I know they wouldn't have done it, but I think I would've pulled the trigger, or at least seriously considered it. Milwaukee would get Powell on a one year for cap relief, and the Mavs would pick up some needed wing help while freeing up some big man money for another player who brings some defense and rebounding to the team plus #30. I do wonder if they even called and tried to trade Lee for that package. That would've been even better.

Horford and Adams are both laughable. Solid players but Jesus, Adams is due 53mil the next 2 years. Horford at anywhere near 100mil is insanity. I'm ready for the damn free agency to come and go because this is borderline sad. Are you really a MFFL if you want to strap our team to those types of contracts?

Feel like a few of us been beating this drum into the thread for awhile. We arent there yet attracting big guys. I want Kemba but Id be shocked if he ended up on the roster come July.

Ill be fine with whatever happens as long as we get a ball handler to help Luka in the backcourt that can take off some pressure.

I really think playing with Westbrook has diminished Adams. His rebounds would immediately increase on the team, and the contract would only be for the next two seasons. Hes solid around the basket and a solid passer/defender. Hard nosed.

Problem is we wouldnt have any money for a wing.

Thats why its important to build a win now team and not taking it slow or just try to sig young guys etc. This summer we are also preparing the 2021 free agency. 2021 is our last shot to add another big player. Getting at least one time to the playoffs in the next two years is the showcase we need so a star wanna join Luka/KP (specially if no one wanna join them this summer).

Thats why im fine with signing 30+y old vets with a much better fit than young players like Randle. Its win now. Not in the Dirk way, in the 2021 FA way.

Yeah Horford doesnt excit me much but he is a better fit than Randle. Same goes of course for guys like Beverley, Green etc. And im also fine with Adams if we strike out on everyone else. You hear so often that he is considered one of the best teammates in the league. Pretty much everyone answering the question "who sets the hardest screens" with Steven Adams. And his contract runs out in 2021, so i think i prefer him over Horford (even with Horford being a better fit)

Problem is he is wayyy overpaid. Especially for a guy that can not provide offense and is one of the worst Free throw shooters in the league. Solid passer if the qualifier is that he makes the ball go in the general direction of a teammate 1apg wouldn't improve dramatically with just the switch from RWB to Luka. I can't imagine his rebounding with KP, Luka would either.

But im pretty sure the Thunder would want Powell back in any Adams trade to replace Adams with a cheaper option, but still dont ruin their win now window that much.

I dont think the FO does such a trade. Like trading Powell and Lee for Adams and then additional take someone like Grant into our trade exception, giving the Thunder the salary relief they are looking for.

Then we could still throw 10+ at Beverley AND have max cap in 2021.

Beverley
JJ
Luka
KP
Adams

Brunson, Kleber, THJ off the bench

They are both VERY GOOD and productive players that FIT with our 2 STARS players and Adams is 25.

Al said he wants 100m (only a report) but nobody here thinks we should give him that. If we can get him for a reasonable price on a 3 year deal he would be great. Same with Adams, if we can trade for him and still have room to sign a 20 million player, why not?

I am just curious what posters like you want or are waiting for when we already have the CORE of our team in Luka and KP. As someone mentioned, we need to start building the team around those 2 and as far as bigs go, there arent many available that are better ones that these 2 or bring what these 2 bring.

Al Horford would make the Mavericks a playoff team. Then what?

I disagree with you on Adams offense. I think he would thrive and easily get 15ppg and maybe 12-13 rpg per game. He is not a terrible offensive player and can actually score down low ( I agree he obviously does not shoot the 3). He can rebound and pass and if DJ could improve his FTs with the Mavs, I bet Adams can get to 80%.

@IanBegley: The Dallas Mavericks are among the teams who have expressed interest in obtaining Phoenix's T.J. Warren via trade, per SNY sources. Opposing teams remain under the belief that Phoenix is open to moving Warren and Josh Jackson, as The Athletic reported.

Warren fits the profile of just what this team needs at small forward. Last time I saw him, he scored 30 points against the Mavs.

Not sure whats the point of getting Warren when you still have THJ for two years

His contract
His FG %
His 3-point shot (42% last year)
He's 6' 8"
He's a starter
He's 25

I guess I'm not exactly sure what you're suggesting. We're going to be trying to unload Hardaway's contract for the next two years. Warren is nearly twice the player at half the cost.

And 18 ppg. What's not to like as long as the cost isn't high?

I agree completely on the positive of adding Adams for essentially half his salary if you're truly able to send Powell back (a sunk cost at this point) as that would take care of our need at C for 2 years (potentially longer given his young age and our ability to extend him if the fit is strong) with a young/talented big that rebounds well and isn't afraid to battle (including playing some solid defense). I also agree that his numbers are a bit lower than he would get most other places with Westbrook. When you then realize that we might STILL be able to get a difference making backcourt player in addition to the huge upgrade at C with Adams, it would be a no brainer while still having long term flexibility (2021). That said, this is a pipe dream in all likelihood.
