Beijing 2008: The Games of the XXIX Olympiad
Use this thread for general comment. I'm sure we'll talk about the basketball somewhere else, but unless you want to start individual threads for archery and the 4x200m freestyle relay, this will be fine.
I am excited. I don't know how many of you care, but I like the Olympics. (However, I think China is favored to win the most medals this year )
The USA woman's soccer team dropped their first game to Norway today. Ugh. Isn't the US team heavily favored in the woman's competition?

Who wants to discuss table tennis with me?
I'll be wasting too much time at work watching the table tennis online.

Just tell me where to look.
Do we (U.S.A) have any good table tennis players?

I'm not really up on the international table tennis scene, but the U.S. historically has a horrible team.
Here's what you need to know about how good China is at table tennis. When Chinese Olympic table tennis players fall off of the team, they go change their citenzship and immediately become the best player for just about any country they go to. I believe the U.S. currently has a women's player that fits that.
I think the best hope of to keep China from the sweep (Gold in men's/women's singles and men's/women's doubles) is a dude from Germany.

We haven't had a transcendent table tennis player since Forest Gump.
China are the heavy, heavy favorites.

FYI, Dish Network reached an agreement with NBC to show the 24 hour dedicated olympic basketball and soccer channels. FIOS already has them in their lineup.
I haven't seen that DirecTV has them yet but I have to think they will before it all gets started.
One thing though, these channels are HD, and I haven't heard about any SD alternate channels for them. So you may have to have the HD package with your provider.
If you don't get the channels, you should be able to watch basically anything you want online. I tried out the online feed yesterday during a women's soccer match and it was very good quality.

I am pretty pumped about all the HD programming. Supposedly NBC is making every second of their coverage available in HD with those channels, USA HD and CNBC HD.
Awesome

I think I'll just flip to it tomorrow night from time to time to see what's going on. I don't need to watch it live. Plus it's in HD in prime time.
I'm sure you'll be able to find it somewhere online tomorrow morning.
I just want to see Dirk carry the German flag, and I'm kind of interested in which "foreign" dignitaries they show on the tube. Isn't Bush going?

I just want to see Dirk's 5 Olympic Rings on his head...and hope for 5 NBA Championship Rings on his finger.
Go Dirk.

It works! Maybe to slow connection or a Firewall problem, Popupblocker, etc...
I use IE try this if other Browsers don´t work.

The region of China is so screwed up right now. Taiwan is competing as "Chinese Tapei" and Hong Kong is competing as its own country. Weird.

Don't worry, you can catch it again tonight on NBC at like 10:00 eastern or whenever it will finally get over.
Or you can see him in your ginormous signature image.
edit: He looked really happy, and maybe a little overwhelmed. It was cool. Very happy for him.
