I'd still take JJB, he seems to have the most potential.

In my admittedly brief opportunities to see him I haven't been nearly as impressed as yourself in his ability to run an offense. He is quick and he does push the ball quickly, that I like. After that occurs I don't like what I see. I don't think he can finish around the rim and his shot isn't good enough to force everyone to come out on him.
Again I give him the energy thing and that's a plus, but at the end of the day I don't see anyone who'll make the NBA nor have value when he's ready to be traded.

I still don't see anyway it'll be Ebi, since we can't send him to the DLeague.
I would think he'd have to be markedly better than the other two in order to overcome that fact.

The guy is skinny, untalented and because of that he needs a position and doesnt have one. Good players make a position for themselves. If you are too skinny, too short for the PF you have to make it up with skill which Ebi doesnt have in excess. He's a great size for SF but he doesnt have the quickness. From what I've seen he's a josh powell type with less offense.
BTW some nice pics from ESPN of the guys

Final spot is up for grabs
By ART GARCIA
Star-Telegram Staff Writer
DALLAS -- Three hopefuls. One spot.
The math is obvious. The competition intense.
The Mavericks hit the halfway point of the preseason Tuesday night with a trio of free agents -- guards Jose Barea and Darius Washington, and forward Ndudi Ebi -- in the running for the lone opening on the 15-man roster.
The other free agent to open training camp (Pat Carroll) was cut earlier this week and those remaining have yet to distinguish themselves in the eyes of coach Avery Johnson.
"No separation," Johnson said before the Mavericks (0-4) lost to the Houston Rockets 72-69 at American Airlines Center.
"One day you get something good, then the next day they act like they've never played basketball."
With a team at least two-deep at every position, Johnson has several different options with the 15th spot since there's no pressing need for a certain kind of player.
Either of the two rookies (Barea or Washington) could be designated to the NBDL affiliate Fort Worth Flyers to ease their transition to pro basketball and get playing time not available with the Mavs.
Ebi can't be sent down since he's already played two years in the league, but remains an intriguing candidate. A former first-round pick by Minnesota in the 2003 draft, the 6-foot-9 forward has played both small and power forward.
The Mavs could also elect not to keep anyone and use the 15th slot to sign someone during the season. Johnson hasn't made a decision either way.
For now, his message is clear on what he needs to see for any of the three to have a chance.
"Consistency," Johnson said. "For example: If you are going to play a certain way, it's good if you can do it at practice, in the game, in the next practice. If I can get that consistency, instead of two out of three, that helps when you're trying to make the team."
When possible, the organization is committed to developing young players that may have slipped through the draft. Marquis Daniels is easily the most successful rookie free agent to stick in recent years, but hardly the only one.
Two undrafted rookies -- Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall -- made the team last season. The Mavs signed another, forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu, this summer.
"That's a great thing to have an organization that's going to work with you and be patient with you," Washington said. "There are very few rookies that come in ready."
The only thing the free agents left want is a fair shake and they feel they're getting that with Johnson.
"Avery is one of those coaches that doesn't care who you are," said Barea, who has started one of the four preseason games. "If you're playing good, he's going to play you. If you're playing bad, he's going to kick you out."
Harsh, but true.

I couldn't agree more - they have moments of brilliance, but then they'll dribble the ball off their own feet, pass the ball to someone in the 7th row, or try to secure their position on the roster by dunking on Yao, only to have their chances stuffed back in their face...

After watching the game last night, I vote None of the Above.
There is bound to be a Pittsnoogle or somesuch "cut" that could provide more than these guys.
I don't want to belittle any of them, but JJB is a Dan Dickau look alike, with a little more speed, but less touch and less height. Washington will take years to develop, and he will still end up a short PG, without exceptional quickness. Ebi doesn't have any available D-League time left, and let's face it, whomever does make the slot should end up there.
Maybe Marshall if he is cut from Indy (not sure if that is allowed though).
I just didn't see that "exceptional" upside in any of them - that would make you want to keep them around for a few years to develop. Ebi would probably be the closest, but he is out of D-League options.
<edit>
The more I look at the roster -- Ebi may make it.
Unless I am mistaken, only two players per team can go to the D-league. Is this correct?
If so, then I am guessing Pops, and Ager end up there. Ebi might be able to develop with the team then.

Except Ager would develop a lot better with the Mavs than with the Flyers...

I say take Ebi. At 6'9", and with his hops and wingspan, maybe you could turn him into a defensive specialist. I love his athleticism and size! I think he's only 21 or 22 so he still has a lot of room to improve. Maybe he could be this year's Diop.

Whose place is he going to take? The inactive Ebi?
They have twelve strong vets. I don't think he plays unless injuries happen. If injury did, then they could call him up.

I think I have this correct that only 12 can be on the "active" list, and up to three inactive. If Pops, Ager, and Ebi are all inactive, only two can go down to D-League and actually get playing time.

You're right - I misunderstood the new CBA rules... Ebi looks a bit better now, but I'd still rather acquire someone other than the 3 guys we're looking at...

I agree with looking at players other than the guys we have brought in thus far. Barea and Washington haven't impressed me at all and Ebi will waste away on the bench while being unable to play with the Flyers.
We may just take Barea because he is a convenient pick, but if we do take him I don't expect him to be around next season.

Ebi is an athlete--but I doubt he'll be a basketball player anytime in the next few years--he needs to go somewhere where he can play some.
Darius Washington is too short to be a SG. He's not ready to play the point. I can't see it.
JJB is the best of the group--he really wants it, but I can't see him earning playing time with Dallas in the near future. He's short, not that fast, only his competitiveness makes him the best of this group.
But I vote none of the above. For the first time ever, I want Mark to save a little of his money.

According to Fish at db.com:
The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have waived rookie guard Darius Washington. Washington appeared in five games for Dallas and averaged 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assist.
The Mavericks roster now stands at 16.

Jose looks lik ea small Jason Kidd out there....he always hustles and has great court vision. We lack a Pure point guard so he would fill that void when needed in certain spots. If I'm to be wrong about Devin, I'd want Jose to replace him. Ebi looks like a lesser Rawle Marshall.....I don't see that happening.

Wow, and then there were two....
I'm still hoping JJB gets the last spot.

I'm sorry devinharris...but I see no way jose gets in a game that means anything this year or the next maybe.

I can see Ebi makin it, becasue i remmber a cup of years ago when he was with Minn. people were starting to say thta he could become a good player and thn idk what happened, but the only way i kno of him is because of that and he does have size, so if we go for any of the guys we have now, then id say go wit Ebi.
