Breaking news....

An announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death appears Friday in one of his close aides’ most credible Web sites. It has sparked a storm of controversy in al Qaeda circles, some of whom claim notice is false.

Signed by the Pen of Jihad Warriors, the site provides no information on circumstances of death, only asks:

Where are those who break out of borders? Where are the lamenters? Where are those who throw themselves from the tops of towers and skyscrapers? Where are the heart-rending cries?

Egyptian bin Laden adherent, Yasser Sari, calls notice a lie and promises new videotape soon in which leader announces end of al Qaeda truce in Europe. Other followers credit the announcement as “authentic and Islamic.”

Radical internet site says al-Qaeda leader dead; experts believe report a fabrication

An internet news site close to al-Qaeda reported the death of Osama Bin Laden, creating a firestorm in radical Islamic circles. The report was followed by denials and accusations of a fabrication fostered on the site by foreign agents.

The London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported on Friday that the site Minbar Ahl al-Sunnah wa-al-Jama'ah declared, “We now report that the al-Qaeda organization has announced the death of Osama Bin Laden.” One of the writers on the site, working under the pseudonym “The Mujahiddin’s Pen,” added: “Osama Bin Laden is dead... Where are the mourners? Where those who sent themselves into the towers and tall buildings?”

Some suspect disinformation tactic

Omar Bakri, a radical Islamic leader in London, told the newspaper that the style of the announcement seemed authentic. However, he thought it was a forgery designed to cause tumult. Dr. Hani al-Sibai, head of the al-Maqrizi Center for Historical Studies, said, “If Bin laden was really dead, the name of his replacement, Ayman al-Zawahari, would have been announced.”

The Egyptian Islamist Yaser a-Sari told the newspaper that Bin Laden is alive and will soon put out a new videotape. A-Sari said the purpose of the report was designed to prepare followers psychologically for the al-Qaeda leader's death – something that could happen at any moment.

I doubt it. People are probably trying to get us to think he's dead so he can pop out of nowhere and attack us again. I won't believe that he's dead until we bring his body back.

Not gonna happen... he'll be in the ground or a pile of ashes before the infidels get him. Osama Bin Laden is more myth than man now.

And whether this report is true or not... does it even matter anymore?? Osama Bin Laden is/was just as dangerous dead as alive. He started a war he never intended to see through. He is just one more martyr in the great jihad... except he's gonna die of kidney failure - not a soldier's death.

Bin Laden was important in 2001, 2002, and even as the Iraqi conflict began - Zarqawi is the more important capture in 2005.

We need to focus on neutralizing the www generation of terrorists - the one's recruiting with CASSETTE TAPES are the least of our worries.

Maybe Osama's getting tired of living in a spiderhole or water closet in Lahore, so he's propogating this disinformation in the meager hope that he might be able to escape the omnipresent spectre of predator killer drones and .50 caliber sniper rounds, and someday, someday might be able to regain some semblance of the luxurious life that was able to lead before the 9-11 mass murder....

That was beginning to become a popularly accepted guess, until he released that authentic tape just before election last November. If he's dead now, he can't have been mouldering in his grave for much more than five months or so, and my bet is that he is still holed up in some spider hole or latrine pit-bunker somewhere...
