Phelps could face criminal charges
Phelps could face criminal charges as part of the fallout from a photo that surfaced showing the swimmer smoking from a marijuana pipe at a University of South Carolina house party.
What do you guys think? I'm disappointed

Criminal charges? If they can press charges against Phelps, they should do the same to virtually every college student on Facebook.

I think it is all retarded....but I can understand why his endorsement deals could be at risk. There is no risk of legal trouble for him though unless he breached some time of contract with his sponsors and they can do more than drop their sponsorship. (sue for breach of contract?)

Pretty much.
I don't have a big deal with what he did though. I've never smoked cigarettes, cigars or pot in my life...but I'm not going to be an advocate of pro-smoking or anti-smoking, it's your life, make your own friggin' choice. He's what, 23? He's still a kid in my opinion.
I DO have a problem with his DUI from earlier though, that's just not smart at all. It's risking the lives of other people.

I'm disappointed that he would go to the state of South Carolina. I've been there...big waste of time.

The threat of going after him over a picture...complete waste of time!!!
Phelps doing this in the first place...bad choice/decision, foolish thing that a kid with lots of time and resources...hope he matures and doesn't allow himself to go further in that lifestyle...ultimately it's his decision to make...if he continues, no doubt the law will catch up to him.
Us fans being judge and jury...we are a bit hypocritical...

No wonder the fool can eat like 8000 calories worth of food a day.
Something like 3 sandwiches, 2 bowls of pasta and 8 kitkats for lunch or something.

He should have said he thought it was a Swedish pump and he was testing out the suction power to make sure it didn't damage more vital organs.

This whole thing is complete BS. No way any charges would stand up in court. Prove where that picture was taken, or that it was even pot in the bong, or that the bong was loaded. The capus police and city police both already said no way they could press charges. This sherrif is just trying to get some publicity since he is an elected offical.
Aside from the charges, he is 23 and an athlete. His job is to train and swim faster then anyone else in the world, and he has done that, 14 times on the biggest stage. I get paid to look like im working while I type on this forum. Neither of us have a responsibility to be role models to kids. A kid should look to his parents, or at least people whose job it is to be upstanding citizens i.e Police officers, and such. I chaild should be allowed to admire an athletes skill set or even see how hard work, determination and sacrifice are often required to achieve your goals, but for a model on how to live, look elsewhere.
Athletes are gifted genetic speciamens, not saviors and should be viewed as such. Sorry for the rant.

Bet there are alot of us who are glad we didn't have cell phone cameras when we were in college. But the guy has publicly stated he enjoys being a role model for younger children. He has lost his endorsements with Kellogg's and hopefully, a lesson.

I smoke lots of pot. In fact, I'm going to go torch a bowl right now. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Michael Phelps is awesome.
