Doncic scored more points (48) than Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Zach LaVine and Jrue Holiday combined (47).

Argentina head coach Sergio Hernandez on Luka Doncic, continued: “He is the best player in the world, including the NBA. If there was any doubt in my mind, it is there no more.”

Slovenian captain Edo Murić said that Luka asked to be subbed out and saying "I have enough, let others have it as well."
Luka post-game: "I'm not interested in this record. We came here for Slovenia to win."

I was curious what the record was..

His 48 points ties Australian Ed Palubinskas (Montreal, 1976) for the second-most points ever scored in an Olympic basketball game, trailing only Brazilian Oscar Schmidt, who set the record against Spain in 1988 with 55 points.
The 22-year-old could well have broken the record after he checked out of the game with 4:35 remaining in the fourth, but he was more interested in getting the win than adding his name to the record books.

Slovenia wins over Spain 95-87
Luka made two shots (and took seven) but had 14 boards and 9 assists and picked Spain apart in the second half. Slovenia wins the group over Spain and Argentina.
Slovenia goes 3-0 in group play and will avoid the USA (and Australia and France) in the quarterfinal.
Luka is 16-0 with Slovenia.
They had 4 guys on Luka many times
And three on him most of the time.
He was in early foul trouble.
Spain had 7 NBA guys.
Spain played a box-in-one zone defense most of the game.
Luka had 9 assists and scored 12 points in 33 min.
Would have had a lot more assists if guys were hitting shots.
Ricky Rubio had 18 points to lead Spain.

Spain coach Sergio Scariolo: "This is a good team. This is not only Doncic. I am pleased about how Luka read the situation and reacted to that. He showed his class, his mental toughness, his competitivness and his understanding of what was going on."

Really impressive to come up number 1 in this group.
Crazy to see grey beard Pau still playing.

Here to tell you that if Slovenia plays USA in finals I will be cheering for team Luka all the way. I am sure the highly compensated US team will be just fine with a silver metal.

Goran Dragić was Luka Dončić roommate when they played EuroBasket 2017. Goran was asked how he slept before final game, he said: "I didn't sleep at all, then I looked left and Luka was snoring, he has that, he just doesn't feel pressure"

Well Slovenia is facing France right now and if they win, they face the U.S. for the Gold medal. Win or lose today that's a great accomplishment.

What a crazy finish to the game. I only caught the last few min, but they said Luka wasn’t shooting due to a wrist injury? Anyone have any info on if something happened?

Couldn't find a stream to watch it myself. But just looking at stats Lukas free throwing shooting must be contagious 55% for Slovenia while France shot 84% and still only managed to win by 1 point. They should have won that game even if Luka is hurt.

France also destroyed them from the 3 point line 48% to 33%, and outrebounded them by 9 so another way to look at it is France should have won easily adding all of those 3 together. That's a bummer about Lukas wrist he would have brought it home.

Luka Doncic’s disappointment with Slovenia’s loss to France in the second Olympic Games semifinal was more than obvious in the finale with the Dallas Mavericks superstar also expressing his frustration on his way to the locker room. After the end of the game, Doncic was shouting “FIBA is probably happy” while walking through the media mixed zone per ’15min’. He was also reported to shout “FIBA happened” while Slovenia big man Ziga Dimec was being asked questions about the game.

Marc Stein: Mavs special advisor Dirk Nowitzki will join Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd, Nico Harrison and Michael Finley in Slovenia next week for Dallas to formally present Luka Doncic his five-year supermax extension in excess of $200 million, sources say.

Looks like the Aussies beat Slovenia for the bronze. Luka was 1 point away from a guaranteed medal had they beaten France.

The story of the last few years. Carries inferior teams single handedly in this case because he is the only NBA caliber player in his country and on the Mavs because it is full of by definition Replacement Level Players. He is going to get mentally fried before he gets anywhere near the end of his extension.

This seems in poor taste now that they didn't medal. Even a bronze would have made for a triumphant return to Slovenia. I will bet this is called off. Furthermore I heard that he might sign a 3 plus 1 deal instead.

How is this in poor taste? I think it’s great that our leadership team is going to visit his home country. And he’s going to be like 200 million!!! Richer after their visit. He will have other opportunities to get a medal. Where did you hear the 3+1 ?

Agree!. I was totally off on that one. I very much underestimated how much the Slovenian fans and citizens valued the effort and even making it as far as they did. Thanks for the reminder. No excuses. It was a fucking moronic take on my part. I award myself no points and may god have mercy on my soul...

Which shows how bad his running mates are. He hasn't played to Luka levels but obviously not the 2nd worst player in the league. +/- is a moronic stat overall. Proves that the collective 5 he is playing with to start games and finish games has gotten their drawers blown off. Would be helpful if teammates converted assist attempts in addition to Luka actually fasting for 5 days and dropping 15 lbs to get into playing shape. My worry is that he will never take fitness seriously and actually get into NBA athlete shape. His caboose (technical term) will only get larger with age if he isn't careful.

During the Mavericks’ practice Monday afternoon, Luka Doncic appeared to be as close to game ready as he’d been since spraining his left knee and ankle Nov. 15. Until he shouted in pain. Doncic, who’d been practicing in a 5-on-5 scrimmage during the portion of the workout open to reporters, came off the Terasaki Budokan court abruptly and sat on the bleachers, grabbing at his left knee. – via Callie Caplan @ Dallas Morning News

Don't see it mentioned, but Luka is player of the week for the west.

Averaging 37-10-10 in February on 49% and 43% from three

(By Brad Townsend - Dallas Morning News)
Mavericks’ Luka Doncic named Western Conference Player of the Month
It’s the second time in 23-year-old Doncic’s young career that he has been named player of the month.

Not that anyone needed more evidence of Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s recent surge, but Thursday afternoon produced major validation: Doncic was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Month for February.

It’s the second time in 23-year-old Doncic’s young career that he has been named player of the month. The other time was for November of 2019.

In 10 February games, during which the Mavericks went 7-3, Doncic averaged an otherworldly 34.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 45.7% field goal shooting and 41.2% 3-point shooting. He scored 30 or more points seven times -- including games of 51, 49, 45 and 40 points.

Still, Doncic was far from certain of player of the month anointing. Young Memphis star Ja Morant, who was selected over Doncic as a starter in last month’s NBA All-Star Game, averaged 33.9 points, 5.9 assists, 5.6 rebounds and culminated the month with a 52-point outburst as Memphis finished 8-2 in February.

Now, Doncic has another reason to briefly celebrate atop his recent (Feb. 28) birthday. He said a few days ago that he isn’t sure whether this has been the most dominant stretch of his four-season career: “That’s for you guys (reporters),” he said.

During one five-game stretch, from Feb. 8 to Feb. 17, he broke his own franchise record for most points in a five-game stretch. His old mark was 186. His new one is 199.

Doncic joins franchise great Dirk Nowitzki as the only Mavericks to earn multiple player of the month awards. Nowitzki six of them, but the last of those was for April of 2009. The Mavericks franchise and its fans waited a decade before another player of the month winner came along.

Now, Doncic is at two and almost assuredly counting.
