Pavel needs a better nickname
P-Pod
Does that sound intimidating to you? It sounds more like something in your granny's kitchen.
Plus, I'm about beaten to a pulp with the A-rod naming convention. I reached my limit last year when Zaza Pachulia explained that fans could call him Z-Patch.
Eff that.
If a nickname is required for our new giant center I suggest we respect Pavel's wishes and call him what he would like to be called.
"Some time ago, my manager showed me and old video of Kareem, Robert Parish and his hero Bill Walton... But I am Pavel, and in the future I would like to be just Pavel the Siberian man."
Refreshing. Simple. Honest. Brilliant in a Ethan & Joel Cohen sort of way ...
Pavel "The Siberian man"
Other suggestions?

I don't intend to call him anything other than Pavel. It's easy to say and type.

How 'bout the Siberian Husky? Well, he is big, if not exactly husky.
Or maybe the Ragin' Rusky. He certainly is quick to get enraged.

The Siberian Express. Think of all the marketing angles:
"You will lose."
"I must break you."
"If he dies... he dies."

RE:Pavel needs a better nickname
It doesn't quite roll off the tounge, but teh description of this creature bears a striking resemblance to the newest Dallas Maverick:
CHUCHUNAA
Also known as the "Siberian Snowman", the Chuchunaa (whose name translates into “outcasts” or “fugitives”) are unique among their kind for numerous reasons, not the least of which being their purported penchant for appearing before eyewitnesses clothed in animal skins. This fact has led some researchers to believe that these creatures may have less in common with Gigantopithecus-like creatures such as BIGFOOT or the YETI, and may possibly be a part of what some have speculated are a relic population of paleo-asiatic aborigines or possibly even Neanderthals.
The Chuchunaa has been described by most eyewitnesses as being a tall and human-like, with broad shoulders, a protruding brow, long, matted hair and occasionally bearing unusual fur coloration. In fact, LOREN COLEMAN reported in his book: “Crypto-zoology: A to Z”, that at least one member of this species was given a name by nearby natives. They called him “Mecheny” (which translates from the native Mnasi dialect as “The Marked One”) due to the fact that this creature allegedly bore a distinctive patch of white hair on its forearm.
Although reports of these creatures were first brought to the attention of the academic world in 1928, when the Soviet government sent expeditions into the upper regions of the Indigirka and Yana rivers in order to collect accounts of these unique man-beasts, most reports of these creatures hail from native nomadic tribes such as the Yakuts and the Tungus.
Strangely, these same creatures are also found in the southeastern portion of Siberia. Here they are simply referred to as “Mulen”, which is the Tungus word for “bandit”. This name no doubt stems from the fact that these creatures are notorious for their midnight raids on barns and other dwellings. There are also reports that these creatures have, on occasion, taken to eating human flesh - a trait which is not apparent in its Siberian cousin the ALMASTI.
In 1933, Professor P. Dravert became incensed when he heard reports that these creatures were being hunted, and petitioned the Soviet government to put an end to this heinous act, stating that Chuchunaa were also citizens of the Soviet Union, and therefore deserved equal protection under the law. His plea went unheeded.
By the 1970s geologist Vladimir Pushkarev conducted research throughout Siberia, he also heard native accounts of these native creatures, but - due in part, no doubt, to the overwhelming encroachment civilization - their numbers had dwindled since the dawn of the 20th century. Still, in 1985, British anthropologist Myra Shackley claims to have seen the Chuchunaa known as "Mecheny" with her own eyes.
Most investigators have concluded that these hominids - which may be one of the last living links that the human race has with its simian ancestors - are either extinct or dangerously close to being wiped off the face of the Earth.

I have long been on record with my nickname of "The Russian Bear." In fact, I will take any and all credit for such a name catching on.
(Siberian Bear falls under the same heading, so don't try to pull any fast ones on me.)

RE: Pavel needs a better nickname
The great thing about him is I don't really have high expectations. Unless you consider Gheorge Muresan "high expectations." Gheorghe Muresan at the age of 23 averaged 5 points and like 3 rebounds as a rookie for the Bullets. But a year or two later he was averaging 15 and 9, winning the Most Improved Player award.
So I ask the posters here: do you think in 4 years time that Pavel can't average 5 points and 3 rebounds? Or when he gets older average 15 and 9?
The first one is easier for me to see. The second one is harder for me. But the good thing is he has 4 years of NBA experience over Muresan at the time Gheorghe put up his numbers. So the potential is there.
