Default Dal/GS

I am not actually suggesting this trade be made, but I was thinking it might be something pretty strange to think about. I heard GS was trying to offload Baron Davis to make room to extend Pietrus.

Would you do this trade? Why?

Dallas Trade Breakdown
Outgoing

Keith Van Horn
6-10 SF from Utah
9.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 0.8 apg in 21.5 minutes

Rawle Marshall
6-7 SF from Oakland-MI
0.8 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.8 minutes
Incoming

Baron Davis
6-3 PG from UCLA
18.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 9.4 apg in 38.2 minutes

Zarko Cabarkapa
6-11 PF from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
3.5 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.3 apg in 8.6 minutes
Change in team outlook: +12.3 ppg, +1.8 rpg, and +8.9 apg.

Golden State Trade Breakdown
Outgoing

Baron Davis
6-3 PG from UCLA
18.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 9.4 apg in 38.2 minutes

Zarko Cabarkapa
6-11 PF from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign)
3.5 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.3 apg in 8.6 minutes
Incoming

Keith Van Horn
6-10 SF from Utah
9.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 0.8 apg in 21.5 minutes

Rawle Marshall
6-7 SF from Oakland-MI
0.8 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.8 minutes
Change in team outlook: -12.3 ppg, -1.8 rpg, and -8.9 apg.

Successful Scenario
Due to Dallas and Golden State being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Dallas and Golden State had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Dallas would get a true point guard who avg many more assists that Terry, and get a young backup 4 Dirk.

GS would cap relief in KVH, and get a young with some potential.

Just a thought. I am not sure if Baron would disrupt the way things are going, or push Dallas over the top.

Probably not a good idea to mess with chemisty considering the roll they are on, but would this trade push them up a level to "dominant" instead of "very good and a top 3 team"?

We would have too many smalls and no backup bigs. Unless you think Dirk can handle 48 minutes per game or Howard can play PF.

dont know how well baron fits in with the AJ offense. he's probably a better fit for nellie's offense.

the trade has a Big and a small going for a Big and a small. How would it change anything?

The upgrade in talent from Marshall to Baron is quite huge and nets the dominant PG who provides lots of assists.
The downgrade from KVH to Zarko is big, but not as big as the upgrade from Marshall to Baron.

I was just thinking that if starting PG is more important than backup PF, then this might be a good trade -- especially if they don't think they can resign Terry, or that he is not a PG for this team.

I really like the idea of Baron, Terry (Harris) because I think it would match up with Billups, Hamilton real well.

I am not sure that Baron is a fit at all, but I can see where it "might" work great, and move them to the dominant level.

You have a small going out who never plays so the small you add will make the already overcrowded backcourt situation even worse.

Zarko is not someone who I would count on to play meaningful minutes so we would be reducing our frontcourt depth.

To acquire Baron we would have to send one of our guards back to help settle our roster. Even still I don't think it would work if we had to give up KVH unless we got front court help back and the Warriors don't have any to spare.

First the trade is a huge upgrade in talent, but talent doesn't always translate on paper. The Mavericks had a lot of talent two years ago and it couldn't mesh. I might trade for a point guard after the season, but now it doesn't make sense to mess with a good thing.

I wouldn't touch this trade with a ten foot pole. BDiddy doesn't fit what this team is trying to accomplish.

The Warriors would not trade BD for KVH. It's not even close.

I doubt GS would want KVH because they're already loaded at PF/with big men who can play PF, ie. Murphy, Biedrins, Taft, and Diogu with Diogu being a really intriguing prospect and their probable starter at PF next year. They were looking to become more physical in the post and incumbent starter T. Murphy was just too soft, so they drafted Taft and Diogu. A PF who can shoot the 3 is nice to have, but GS already has one in Murphy.
