Default GDT: Bullets* @ Mavs 12/12/15

*yeah I put Bullets because I was against the name change done for political correctness.
-anyway-

Mavs play the Bullets* for the second time in less than a week.

http://espn.go.com/nba/preview?gameId=400828237
Days removed from the experience, the Washington Wizards might still be having nightmares about Wesley Matthews knocking down one 3-pointer after another.

The defensively challenged Wizards get an opportunity to exorcise that demon Saturday night when they attempt to snap an 11-game losing streak against the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center.

Matthews has been slowly working his way back after rupturing his Achilles in March, but he seemed to be feeling strong in the nation's capital last weekend.

The shooting guard scored 28 of his career high-tying 36 points in the second half, leading Dallas (13-10) to a 116-104 victory Sunday. He also hit eight of his career-high 10 3-pointers over the final two quarters.

"It's one of those nights where those same shots that I've been shooting and missing, they were falling," said Matthews, who has a career-worst 35.9 field-goal percentage.

Matthews has averaged 27.7 points while sinking 19 of 37 (51.4 percent) from beyond the arc in his last three meetings dating to his time with Portland. He had 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting in Wednesday's 98-95 home loss to Atlanta.

The Mavericks, 5-4 at home, shot a season-low 36.0 percent and 7 of 31 (22.6) from long range as their two-game winning streak came to an end. They'll try to avoid their first three-game home skid since dropping four straight in 2013-14.

"I think when teams go to road arenas and environments, it's kind of an us-against-them mentality," forward Chandler Parsons told the Mavericks' official website. "You know, we kind of embrace being the villain. We have to somehow transition that over to when we're playing here."

Matthews, who was the villain against the Wizards (9-12), has averaged 8.8 points while missing 31 of 35 from beyond the arc in his last five home games.

The Mavericks might be able to get better looks against a Washington team that has allowed an average of 108.2 points and a 49.7 field-goal percentage over its last six games. The Wizards couldn't hold a seven-point, fourth-quarter lead Friday when they opened a four-game trip with a 107-105 loss to New Orleans.

Washington, which ranks near the bottom of the league with 10.3 3-pointers allowed per game, let the Pelicans hit 16 of 27 from beyond the arc. It allowed Dallas to make 16 of 31 last weekend.

"We have to find a way to stop teams from making so many 3-pointers," guard Garrett Temple said.

The Mavericks have scored 104.1 per game while winning 11 straight in this series. Dirk Nowitzki had 19 points at Washington but was 1 for 8 on 3-pointers Wednesday and is scoring 14.0 per game over his last five at home.

The Wizards had a scare in the first meeting when John Wall had to be carried off the court after colliding with Jeremy Evans late in the game. He did not miss any time and is averaging 26.5 points on 55.8 percent shooting to go along with 10.3 assists over his last four games.

Bradley Beal scored 21 with four 3-pointers against Dallas last weekend, but his status is uncertain after sitting out Friday due to tightness in his right leg.

The Wizards, who were outrebounded 50-31 by the Mavericks, are already missing Kris Humphries, Nene, Drew Gooden and Alan Anderson.

Washington Wizards at Mavericks
http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/dall...-zaza-pachulia
7:30 p.m., Saturday. TV: FSSW. Radio: KESN-FM (103.3), KZMP-AM (1540 in Spanish)
Storyline to watch

The Wizards lost to the Pelicans 107-105 Friday in New Orleans, but coach Rick Carlisle said that "is basically meaningless because after we beat them [in Washington on Sunday], they went down and [dominated Miami]. It was one of the most impressive bounce-back wins I've seen from any team all year long."

Matchup to watch
Marcin Gortat did not play in the Mavericks' win at Washington. He's back and gives the Wizards an inside presence they lacked in the first meeting. He's averaging 12 points and 8.7 rebounds and will be another challenge for double-double machine Zaza Pachulia.

Scouting the Wizards
They are 9-12 overall and have been better on the road (5-5) than at home (4-7). ... The backcourt remains among the youngest and most explosive in the league, with John Wall and Bradley Beal combining to average 39.4 points, 11.4 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game.

Scouting the Mavericks
They have won 11 consecutive games against the Wizards, their longest current winning streak against any team. ... Since going 10 for 17 from 3-point range against the Wizards on Sunday, Wesley Matthews has gone 4 for 14 from beyond the arc in two games. ... They have outrebounded three consecutive opponents, the first time that's happened all season.

Beal is questionable. Hope he sits this one out. He sat last night out.
Washington on a b2b. Somehow I feel the Mavs dont find a way to use this to their advantage.

Its going to be a close game. Vegas has Mavs -6.5. Think they squeak one out. Not sure if they cover the spread.

I dont expect a 3 barrage like last game.

I don't think it was for "political correctness" so much as it was due to the fact that Washington DC had the highest amount of gun-related crimes in the US (by far)... People just didn't want their team to be associated with the 2nd-worst thing their city had to offer (after politicians)... It'd be like naming our team the Dallas Sh!tty Commute.

But I do have to say that "Wizards" is a pretty weak name for a DC team... Well, unless it's some sort of freemason reference, then I guess that's slightly less lame.

Anyway, I hope the Dallas Sh!tty Commute beat the hell out of the Washington Bullets tonight.

But you have to admit it turned out to be a fitting name...even more so than Phoenix Suns, Minneapolis Lakers, New Orleans Jazz, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers.
Probably not intentional though.

The Generals will extend their losing streak against the Mavtrotters... the Mavtrotters' four-headed guard combo will make John hit the Wall... the other Generals' players will merely clown around....

Mavtrotters - 122
Generals - 107

I'm really getting tired of the parade of uncontested threes by Mav opponents. SMH

I can't recall a Mavs team with so many shooters being so terrible at wide open looks on a consistent basis.

John Wall only 13 points, no Beal, no real back-up centers + they are playing b2b.

This is truly disgusting. They just played a lousy home game a couple of days ago, how the hell is this even possible?

This is over. Time to go to sleep (at least here in Germany). I am really upset by the team's lack of effort. What a terrible performance, getting humiliated by a team like the Wizards is embarrassing.

I finally get to settle in to watch the Mavs game at the start of the second half, and this is what I have to watch?

It's time for Parsons to step up.

Seriously, if it was for me he could also leave Dallas. This dude is not worth his money. There's nothing he can do particularly well expect for his pump fake. His shot is so ugly it kinda hurts your eyes. I was trying to be patient with Parsons for 1 1/4 seasons but now I'd just say we should trade him if we can.

I wouldn't go so far as calling him a piece of trash, but my patience is definitely wearing thin on him especially since it feels like I've been waiting since the beginning of last season for him to fulfill all of the hype when the Mavs signed him. I guess his game is decent enough, but I do wish he had a more reliable jumper. Sometimes I think his main issue is that he seems to be trying to do too much. I remember him as a very good player while he was in Houston, but at that time, he wasn't trying to live up to the max contract that he seems to think he deserves. I'd just like to see him play within himself. If that means, he puts up 7 shots rather than 15, so bet it. I want him to figure out other ways to help the team other than trying to create for others or score. Although he's getting max money, I personally think his ceiling is that of a great role player. Anyhow, I still think we need to be patient. Carlisle will figure this puzzle out.

Such a frustrating game.... I've deleted and retyped like 6 times because when I go back to read it and check for errors my head always ends up sideways on my desk groaning. There was just so much wrong with what we did, in the 3rd quarter especially that I just don't rly want to think about it anymore.

Bullets got REALLY hot. Really shitty commute didn't until it was too late.

Otto Porter has turned into a nice player for them.

I think besides beating .500 teams the second story of the season should be the lack of our home-court-advantage. Mavs have never been as great as others in that area, but 5-5 is not going to get it done.

This is a very average team that has no business taking lower tier teams lightly....especially at home on Seats for Soldiers night.

Very disappointed in the lack of effort last night.

No way was I watching that game once it was announced Deron Williams was out. He is the conductor of this team. It all starts with him as far as getting this team going. That, and the mavs just arent very good right now.

Zaza, Deron, Wes, Dirk, Felton. To me, thats our core and everyone else is expendable. I would like to keep Evans around however. My nostalgia has ran out for Harris/JJ. Can we get Aminu back haha. My favorite short lived Mav.

1. Dirk looked like an old player last night. He was bad.
2. What was Rick thinking guarding Gortat with Dirk and Powell? He overpowered them during the entire second quarter.
3. What is the deal with McGee (totally benched for 3 games). Is he injured.?

Felton is shooting under 40 and 30%. He's shooting horrible, yet gets hyped.

I'd still love for the Mavs to make these two trades:

Felton/Evans for Aminu
Parsons/McGee for Noah/McDermott
