Default Finley Buckets For Hunger

DALLAS --NBA All-Star guard Michael Finley asked Mavs fans to make donations to his Buckets for Hunger Thanksgiving Challenge benefiting the North Texas Food Bank from Nov. 17-25. As a result of fan donations and matching from Finley and teammates Antawn Jamison and Antoine Walker, $109,697.70 was raised. This is equivalent to over 750,000 pounds or approximately 20 tractor-trailers of food to feed North Texas families.

“With the leadership of Michael Finley and support from Antawn Jamison, Antoine Walker and the Dallas Mavericks, the Michael Finley Buckets for Hunger Thanksgiving Challenge raised enough money to provide more than 10,000 families with a Thanksgiving meal,” said North Texas Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Jan Pruitt.” “Never before has a one-night event for the Food Bank had such an impact on feeding the hungry in our community.”

About Buckets for Hunger, Inc.

Finley is on the board for Buckets for Hunger, Inc. in Madison, Wisconsin, and participates in their various fundraising efforts throughout the year to benefit food pantries all over Wisconsin, Texas and his hometown of Maywood, Ill.

About North Texas Food Bank

The North Texas Food Bank, the largest Food Bank in Texas and the fifth largest in the nation, distributes food and grocery products to 400 agencies in 13 North Texas counties (9,410 square miles), an area larger than Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island combined.

For every dollar donated to the North Texas Food Bank, $12 worth of food and grocery product is distributed, and 100 percent of every dollar donated through food drives is used for food purchase. Only 2 cents out of each dollar is used in administration/fundraising with 98 cents being used in food distribution.

The North Texas Food Bank was awarded the 2001 Food Bank of the Year award by America’s Second Harvest, the largest Hunger relief organization in the nation.

Finley rocks! I wish more pro athletes would do charitable things with their money. Maybe more do and we just don't hear much about it. These guys are rolling in money. I couldn't believe that I read that Fortson lost $180,000 for 3 games. It would take me FOUR AND A HALF YEARS to earn what he does in THREE GAMES. Insane. Yet, I contribute to the Mavs by attending every game I possibly can. I guess my teaching isn't nearly as entertaining and important as professional sports.

Sorry for the rant. Great job Finley!

I don't know about donating money, but I'm pretty sure Steve has done lots of stuff with the youth in Canada as far as camps and stuff go. Jamison has a charity (as well as helping with this), TAW has a foundation of some sort. And as a team/organization, all the guys are involved in a lot of stuff.

Didn't Nash foot the bill for an entire camp in Canada after the Grizzlies left? All the Mavs are good guys.

Jamison contributes to a lot of charities. He's done quite a bit for the bay area kids in the Oakland area. I have no doubt that he'll do things in and around Dallas.

Are you kidding me? Walker, of course.

He had done so much for the Boston Community as a Celtic but did not want to make it a big deal so it was never mentioned(which is sad because people assumed that the Player who whined and pouted on the court is the same type of guy off of it).....

I remember one instance last year around Christmas time where a Family had their Presents STOLEN. Walker heard about this, went to their home, and replaced the gifts that were stolen & in addition, handed out some other new gifts from him to them.

Walker also had a section in the Fleetcenter(where the C's play at home) called Antoine's CRAZY 8's where, I believe, kids from a boston school who got the best grades got to go and see Walker&The Celtics play.

Oh and look at the Picture Again :

Is it just me or is Walker really REALLY Happy to Be a Maverick right now?
