B-B-B-BEN W-W-W-ALLACEEE
Per The Ticket: Mavs beat writer Eddie Sefko claims Dallas and Detroit have agreed in principle to a sign and trade that would send Ben Wallace to Dallas for Jerry Stackhouse, Dasagana Diop and a 2007 draft pick. The trade would be completed on or shortly after July 1st, when NBA free agency begins.

This has been posted on a couple boards now.
I think it's BS because it would be tampering since you can't talk to free agents before the 1st. Unless the rules changed on that.

It is confirmed complete BS, unless you consider my joke in the thread which won awards for its randomness.

If this turns out to be real, then this is a helluva deal for Dallas. Ben playing next to Dirk would be a horribly formidable pairing for at least the next two years, and it would be satisfying to see us essentially trade 1/2 of our Antawn Jamison '04 deal, a future low 1st rounder, and a guy we signed off the street last year for a fellow who still easily qualifies as one of the best 10-20 players in the NBA.
Although, that said, this rumor does smell awfully fishy. Did anyone else hear this on the ticket?

Did Sefko actually make this claim or is it purely an internet fabrication?

I doubt this is real. I'd like it though.

Q: Any chance the Mavs would pursue Ben Wallace?
Jarod C.
SEFKO: I don't think there's any way the Pistons let him go. If they did, it would have to be a sign-and-trade, and I suspect Josh Howard, Jason Terry or Devin Harris would have to be included, if not two of the three.
I'm not sure upgrading at center is the key to the Mavericks getting back to the NBA Finals. A shooter or a mid-sized defender are higher on their list of needs.

Here's what Sefko had to say about Ben Wallace and the Mavericks on his WFAA chat yesterday, so unless something happened tonight and rick41 is actually telling the truth in claiming that the ticket reported on this business, the whole thing seems awfully unlikely to me...

Yeah, it seems very unlikely to me too, I'm thinking the Pistons will do everything they can to keep him.

why the HELL would you trade Diop? that'd be a huge waste of talent.
Ben is close to done. he's only gonna get older...and did you watch him in the playoffs this year?

Ben may be older, but there is absolutely no comparison between Ben Wallace and Diop. Diop's a nice young player, but, as the Pistons players themselves say--"Ben makes this team go round."
He's a repeat Defensive PoY and one of the most fearsome guys in the NBA.
Not saying this deal is likely or will happen, but I'd give up Diop for a guy like Ben in a heartbeat.

Got it off spursreport. I would rather ship Dampier than Diop.

It would be a mayor upgrade for me. I don't want to lose Diop, but if Wallace is coming...

This was reported here last night. And, I've been listening to the Ticket the entire time I've been awake minus 2 hours last night. This has not been mentioned. More importantly, Ben & Skin (the Tickets "Basketball" guys) are filling in for the vacationing Musers and they have said NOTHING about this.
So, this is an internet Fantasy.

Its amazing what a little draft-day huzzah can do when combined with a fabricated source and a little repetition
