Mavs at the trade deadline
What will we do at the trade deadline and where will be then?
Currently 13-26
Upcoming games before the deadline (2/8). Current records in parentheses:
1/5 - CHI (13-25) - LOSS
1/7 - NYK (18-10) - LOSS
1/9 - ORL (12-27) - WIN
1/10 - @CHA (14-23) - WIN
1/13 - LAL (11-26) - LOSS
1/16 - @DEN (20-17) - LOSS
1/20 - @POR (19-18) - LOSS
1/22 - WAS (22-16) - WIN
1/24 - HOU (27-10) - LOSS
1/26 - POR (19-18) - LOSS
1/27 - @DEN (20-17) - LOSS
1/29 - MIA (20-17) - LOSS
1/31 - @PHX (15-25) - LOSS
2/3 - @SAC (12-25) - WIN
2/5 - @LAC (17-20) - LOSS
Teams over .500 are red. Teams under .500 are green.
If we win every game against losing teams and win against every winning team, our record would be 8-8, leaving us at 21-34. We've been beating good teams lately, though.
At that point, we'll have 55 games played with 27 games left to go.

The trade deadline is at 3pm ET on Feb. 8th, so that GSW game will technically be after it.... Also, isn't the deadline usually during the All-Star break? Am I remembering wrong? Kinda weird that we have 4 games between the deadline and the break.
Anyway, nice to see the discussion that sefant77 and I had in the 'Trust the Process' thread has spun out into a poll. Definitely a conversation worthy of its own thread.

Going to guess we hit about 7 or 8 wins in this stretch. I simply think the Mavs got a little hot streak and won't play as they have in the past 5.

Season started earlier, they had to adjust or the deadline is gamewise too late into the season. Also i think they wanted to kill this awkward situations when an allstar got traded during the break...

Isn't it usually midnight ET?
Anyway, 15 games to go before the deadline.
7 teams over .500
8 teams under .500
I think going 10-5 is perfectly reasonable in that stretch.

Yep. I can see that, too. I said in another thread that January was probably going to disappoint the pro-tankers.

Great start, if we could somehow lose to Orlando, that would be amazing. Tough task, they are pretty terrible.

We've now guaranteed that we will not be .500 by the TDL. The best we can hope for now is 26-28
Still, if we somehow win the next 13, then we're certainly buying. With Cuban at the helm, we're probably buying anyway, but one can hope.

Do the Mavs look to package their pick this year for a star caliber player (Boogie?). If they keep winning games that pick is only getting worse. Could be a quick fix tobthe rebuild and get Dirk back next year for one last playoff run.

In Boogie's case, only if he agreed to an extension... And maybe therapy.
But, yeah, if we don't end up with a top-6 pick, then I don't like our odds of drafting a potential star -- so trading for one is a no-brainer.

Rick and Boogie would never work. The turnovers alone would have them in a gladiator fight the first week.

I take the Nets Pick and any shitty longterm contract they wanna dump
Too bad no way in hell we are getting the Nets pick. But the proposed trade at Hoopshype is garbage without any pick attached
I do this for the Nets Pick without any protection: http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ycshoekk

Mavs at the trade deadline
The trade I heard was Nerlens/Wes for JR Smith/Cavs 1st.
Edit: actually I just heard it actually is the Nets pick but Cavs looking for a better deal. Will likely come down to how much Labron like Nerlens and Wes.

Yeah the Cavs trying to get DeAndra...
And with the Nets pick its about the protection too. If the Cavs want it 1-3 protected, then the value goes waaaay down

Not an easy one for the Cavs and Mavs. Mavs likely take the best package for Wes/Noel. If that's a Cavs first, why not. It's not like Noel is going to stay or Wes a longterm cornerstone.
For the Cavs the Nets pick is more important than for LeBron. So this is really about what LeBron wants vs. what's better for Cavs. They need the pick as security if James leaves or as leverage to make him stay. On the other hand they might feel forced to throw the pick in the ring already at this deadline to please him.

It wouldn’t be out of character for Labron to throw out an ultimatum to the Cavs that he needs this deal done to get him help for this title run even if it costs the Nets pick. He obviously would have to give them some kind of assurance that he’s staying. If the Mavs were to take on Tristan Thompson and JR Smith (plus the Nets pick) it would also clear a ton of cap space for them be players in FA.

If we can get them to include the Nets pick, with minimal protections, sign me up.
So rare to have, potentially, two top 7 picks in a loaded draft.
The trouble is if they insist on top 1,2 or 3 protection how do you roll it over in case it lands there? Say Lebron re- signs and they don’t have a lottery pick for another 5 years?

Anonymous Cavs Players Go to Media to Say They Need More Help & Are Concerned About How Bad IT is Defensively
http://blacksportsonline.com/home/20...s-defensively/
@BenRogers: As @SkinWade pointed out... would make sense for Cleveland to inquire about Wesley Matthews & Nerlens Noel. Could the Mavs get that Brooklyn pick back in a deal? Is there enough here to dance? What contract would the Mavs have to take back? This is delicious

@wojespn: Sources: Cleveland considering packaging JR Smith and Nets first round pick to Dallas for Matthews, Noel, future first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

If players are also complaining about too many similar type players on the roster, why would Cleveland want an 18mill Wes when they have Shump, and Crowder and have to a lesser extent jr smith and korver. Wes may be a better defender but all of them are either 3pt "specialists" or 3 and d guys.
The only guy I see them wanting is Yogi. They want to get younger and better defensively and pg is maybe their biggest hole. I could see a scenario where we want cedi and their first round pick not the nets. And then they get Yogi and some sort of cap relief. Maybe Noel is thrown in because why the hell not. No way we take on something like jr smith though for their first, I could see Crowder or Shumpert maybe.

Cleveland... They're in win-now mode, but if LeBron walks they're gonna need that draft pick.

The J.R. Smith + Cedi Osman + a first round draft pick for Wes and Noel. is ridiculous. Smith is the wrong age, wrong temperament, and has a bad multi-year contract. Moreover, I would be surprised if the Cavs were willing to give up a first rounder for Wes and Noel.
I do think the Cavs could be a target for a trade, but it would be more like Shumpert, Frye, Osman, and Zizic. In this case, the Mavs get one older player but the contract is more favorable (expires after this year). The other three (Shumpert, Osman, and Zizic) have an upside that may or may not ever be reached, but they are young enough to become productive role players for the next few years. Shumpert might be out for the rest of the year, but I doubt the Mavs would care.
If the goal is to pick up another first rounder, I doubt the Mavs have a package that would fit here, but there may be an opportunity to pick up some young talent if you like Osman and Zizic.

I can just see the Cavs making a desperation move. I can agree that the Nets pick may be dreamy, do they have their own first rounder that isn't in year 2030 and even then, what would the protections be? Matthews would fit them perfectly, IMO.
