GDT Game 57 - Mavs (18-38) at Rockets (43-13) 6:00pm NBATV/FSSW
This should be a good test for the young guys... Not that I think they stand a chance in hell of beating the Rockets -- no, the real test lies in resisting the urge to punch Harden's flopping ass right in his stupid face. But they're young, it's okay to fail a test every now and again.

@BallinWithBryan: No Dirk, Wesley, or J.J. for Dallas tonight. First missed games of the season for Dirk and Wesley. That means Yogi Ferrell is slated to be the lone remaining Mav to play in every game this season.

Was hoping Dirk was going to play all 82 this year, but sounds like the young guns will get plenty of game time.

I want the Mavs to lose, certainly, but the Rockets' fans are so cocky it would be nice if they sweated the game just a bit.

@All_Things_Mavs: DSJ, Yogi, McDermott, HB, & Dwight Powell are the starters tonight in Houston.

Mavs playing young guys and wearing their Jamaican Pride jerseys -- the tank is on!

Jones but still no Motley and we’ve made it through all of our primary/secondary rotations.
What’s it going to take to see Sideshow Motley?

Jalen Jones has zero confidence in his jump shot -- totally passed up a wide open three, opted to drive into a crowded lane, then lost the ball.

What's Motley gotta do to get on the court? Also, it's fun to watch these young guys hustle. The bench is getting up everytime someone makes a big play.

DSJ with 11/7/4 in one half. He’s controlling the tempo really well and learning how to pick his shots. I know I sound like a broken record but he’s really reinvigorated my Mavs fandom.

More i see him play with young guys the more I think we’re shorting him by having him play with vets. He doesn’t need to learn to be efficient and match his game to Dirk’s. He needs to get his own team like tonight.
Maybe it’s just the Rockets’ non-existent defense making me say that

DSJ has developed an excellent drive-and-dish, sees the floor a lot better than he did earlier in the season -- he has a bunch of "hockey assists" tonight with the improved overall ball movement that starts with him kicking it out to the perimeter as the defense collapses into the paint.

"Rick hates young players."
Oldest Maverick to play tonight was rookie Maxi Kleber (26 years old)... If any other coach had coached this bunch, they would have gotten beat by 30.

And it's unfortunate that a lot of respectable guys like Followill don't get that. I don't want the Mavs to just lose no matter what. I, and I hope most others, want the Mavs to develop as many young players as they can while they rebuild. We've been wanting it for so long. And if they magically win playing Powell, Derm, and eventually Motley Crue, then so be it.

Powell's recent success is pretty simple. Play to your strengths. He can't shoot and he can't defend. OK. But he is really good around the basket and a tremendous dunker. Also a decent rebounder. The focus though on just getting the baskets around the rim has transformed him into a decent role player.

So they left Dirk at home due to "ankle injury". Does anyone have more on that?
I for one am really disappointed that he will not have the distinction of having played all 82 as a 40 year old. Matter of fact that was the only interest I still had in this team. Did his new kid have diarrhea?
Anyone have more on that?
Did Eddie Sefko grill the f**k out of Carlisle on that? I doubt it.

82 games at his age is nice and all, but it was the second night of back-to-backs right before the All-Star break -- if he didn't rest at some point, then chances are slim that he makes it through the rest of the season without injury. Hell, I'm surprised he made it through the first 56 games without tweaking anything (the ankle injury sounds like BS, but it was a national game and the new rules dictate that players actually have to be injured to sit out -- you can thank Pop for that). Honestly, I'd much rather see him get through the season healthy and come back next year to overtake Wilt on the all-time scoring list than see him play all 82 this season. Some records are more important than others, and the next injury could be his last.

Skin just said Motley has been dealing with an ankle injury which could be part of why he's not getting minutes. Rick seemed to chew him out last night for something.

I think it was for not getting back on d fast. He was jogging and they blew by him. Reminded me of when RC tore into Noel.
