$6.19 million this season and about $6.8 million next season - TAW
Tariq Abdul-Wahad #9 <IMG height=0 src="/images/blank.gif">
This guy sounds like the hidden, mentally unsound, eccentricaly-genius cousin no one speaks of.
He built one statue that sold big and we get stuck carrying baggage?
I know it was a good trade for the Mavs but we need this albatross gone.
Once his cash is available in 2006, could make for one of the best Mav offseasons.
Nash resigned - year before
Daniels/Howard locked up for at least 1 year - year before.
Few other odds and ends that will open up $$$.
Who comes due for contract talk in 2006?
How great will it be for Cubes to have that money to put out without taking a hit in the wallet?
2006 is looking like alot of financial flexibility for the Mavs.

Once his contract comes off the books... we'll still be over the cap and still only have the mid-level exception to throw at free agents.

As was pointed out, we're over the cap anyway. Also, insurance picks up 80% of the cost of his salary. If we traded him for someone who could play, it would cost Cuban about $5 million per year.
Maybe you could cut a deal with the insurance company to do a buyout. Or throw hime in to balance the numbers in some bigger deal. But otherwise, it's only two more years.

"it's only two more years. "
All the reference sources show TAW with 3 more years remaining on his deal. Unfortunately.

Does he even show up for games, or do they just pay him to do appearances and team photos?

Could be the cooshiest job in the planet. Second to the guy who puts sand on the SI models arse for photo shoots.

from what i've seen of this guy with the mavs in limited mins, he was athletic and ran the floor and even hit the outside shots..also a decent defender
is there a reason he isn't the backup SF?
i mean, he's been rotting on IR for like 3 years now...obviously he isn't hurt

Insurance.
The Mavs don't have to pay TAW's insane salary as long as he stays on the IR. He will stay on the IR for the remainder of his contract unless he opts out.

he aint bad but he isnt even a 3mil/year player. Therefore he will be on the IR. If we take him off the IR he would cost us twice as much.
