I think Trump is the worst thing that could have possibly happened to the U.S. this past election cycle. That being said it's pretty clear that both political parties are inundated with controversy and corruption. Obviously, the GOP doesn't compare to the Dems by any metric, but Clinton definitely hijacked the DNC long before her nomination.

I'm ready for a truly revolutionary candidate. I refuse to believe that long gone are men and women of principle like Bobby Kennedy. People who don't give a damn what is and isn't politically possible, but stick to their honest values and beliefs.

Fair point. His flaws are fairly considered. Yet, they pale in comparison to his virtues as a man that stood up for what was right. He was instrumental in the formation of modern American liberalism.

The problem is certain things are death sentences for candidates. If you say the military funding needs to be cut, or to eliminate private prisons used for profit, or that we need to raise taxes on the rich, or mention the words gun control, youve eliminated a lot of the voters unfortunately.(Fox News will pull a heading like "Insert candidate HATES MILITARY, JOBS WILL BE CUT".

And if Democrats dont win back any seats today from the election, it says that Trumpism bull shit works for republican candidates.

Republicans are constantly playing identity politics (dems do to an extent as well). The rep candidate in Virginia sent out mailers of a picture of Colin Kap kneeling and it said "are you tired of athletes kneeling during the anthem? Vote republican!" That will win a lot of votes because thats how stupid we've become.

Now Im rambling...

Dems have to actually be good and address real issues. The centrism of soundbites combined with rampant corruption is hated by everyone. If they want to win, they have to appoint someone who is more than an empty suit run by special interests and polls.

Trump claimed he'd address corruption (newsflash, he's even worse) and that he'd shake up the status quo. Even though he's an insane, egotist with a borderline intellect and Nazi sympathies, people wanted something different.

Unfortunately, the democrats answered Trump by putting another white bread, sound-clip democrat who doesn't really stand for anything on the ticket and stifled any other challenge to their status quo. When people are offered two awful mannequins in suits, they choose the better of the two. When they are offered a mannequin in a suit and someone who claims to want real change and claims to have real values, then people will vote for the person who claims to have principles, even if he/she turns out to be a liar and a proto-nazi.

If democrats lose, it's because they haven't learned their lesson that they can't keep putting suits without principles on the ballot. They need to find someone who actually stands for something.

Theyve definitely done themselves no favors by still fighting about the bernie/hillary thing. Its maddening. They continue to shoot themselves in the foot nationally.

They need to make their principles and policies clear and find good candidates that can rally the party.

Trump wanted a culture war, looks like he got it... Too bad for him that the Democrats just won the shit out of the first battle.

@CharlotteAlter: A trans woman beat the guy who introduced the bathroom bill. A gun victim's boyfriend beat a delegate with an "A" grade from the NRA. A civil rights lawyer who sued the police department just became the top prosecutor in Philadelphia.

Something's happening here, folks.

@kylegriffin1: A N.J. Republican mocked the Women's March online.

32-year old Democrat Ashley Bennett was angered by the remark, challenged him in his re-election bid.

She won.

@amyharvard_: The real winner tonight is Danica Roem (D). She will be the first transgender lawmaker in Va.

But even better: She unseated Del. Bob Marshall (R) who ran on a transphobic campaign and sponsored Va. horrendous bathroom bill.

Beautiful.

@flippable_org: Elizabeth Guzman flipped District 31 blue! Congratulations to @guzman4delegate, who unseats an NRA-backed, 8-term GOP incumbent.

@obioannoukenob: fliers smeared Ravi Bhalla — a Sikh who wears a turban — as a terrorist, but he won the six-way election to be Hoboken’s next mayor anyway

@mic: A Democratic Socialist candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, who was largely written off by the Democratic Party, has just won his election in the state’s 50th district

@SarahEMcBride: Another exciting victory: out trans man Tyler Titus won a seat on the Erie School Board, making home Pennsylvania's first out trans elected official! Congrats, Tyler!

@ShaunKin: 38 year old Melvin Carter just became the first Black Mayor of St. Paul, Minnesota.

@keyharris: Milledgeville, Georgia elected its FIRST African-American Woman Mayor, Mary Parham Copeland!

@kylegriffin1: Jenny Durkan was just elected Seattle’s first lesbian mayor. She is also Seattle’s first woman mayor since the 1920s.

@AishaThinker: Y’all. My mother @ViLyles made history tonight. She is the FIRST EVER Black woman elected Mayor of Charlotte, NC!

@caseytolan: Lisa Middleton, who just won a city council seat in Palm Springs, will be California's first openly transgender non-judicial elected official

@TheBeat985: #WilmotCollins (a former Liberian refugee) is the FIRST black mayor in Montana history! (City of Helena.) Congrats, Wilmot!

@latinovictoryus: Congratulations to @HalaAyala -- the first Latina to be elected to the VA House of Delegates! You just made history! #VAElection

@RaquelWillis_: So proud of movement auntie, Andrea Jenkins, who became the first openly trans woman of color elected to the city council of a major U.S. city. She’ll represent Ward 8 of Minneapolis! So much history being made tonight! #AJ4W8 #TransFolksCanWin #ElectionDay

@womensmarch: Kathy Tran came to the U.S. as a refugee from Vietnam when she was an infant. Tonight, she became the first Asian American woman elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. Congrats @kathykltran!

@JulieCareyNBC: As Virginia's Lt. Gov-elect Justin Fairfax becomes just the second African American elected statewide since Civil War @nbcwashington

@MohamedMOSalih: Huge news! I believe Mazahir Salih is the first Sudanese woman elected outside of Sudan to hold public office (Iowa City Council at-large)

@KEYTNC3Tracy: It appears #SantaBarbara voters #elected their first #Latina #Mayor. If #CathyMurillo’s lead stands she will be sworn in Tues. Jan. 9, 2018

@RedTRaccoon: Joyce Craig is the first woman elected Mayor for Manchester, New Hampshire (the largest city in the state).

@womensmarch: Sheila Oliver will be the first Black woman to serve as New Jersey's lieutenant governor!

@keithboykin: Voters today chose

-2 new Democratic governors
-2 black lieutenant governors
-2 transgender officials
-A Black Lives Matter lawyer as DA in Philly
-A Sikh mayor in Hoboken
-A socialist in Virginia
-To oust GOP mayor in Atlantic City
-And to expand Medicaid in Maine

More layoffs planned at Carrier plant Trump promised to save

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017...d-to-save.html

Quote:
Shortly after Trump’s election, Carrier announced that it had reached a deal with the then president-elect to keep approximately 1,070 jobs in Indianapolis for 10 years in exchange for up to $7 million in various incentives.

The highly publicized deal, which protected about 730 manufacturing jobs, abruptly reversed the plan Carrier announced in February 2016 to move its factory to Mexico and eliminate nearly 1,400 jobs.

Although Carrier employees appeared elated in widely circulated photographs after Trump struck the deal with the company, the mood in Indianapolis has apparently soured as layoffs continue.

“Trump came in there to the factory last December and blew smoke up our asses,” Brenda Darlene Battle, a longtime Carrier employee, told The New Yorker. “He wasn’t gonna save those jobs.”

Amazed by Virginia. Not just the governor but down the ballot. Trumpism isnt working for any republican candidate.

"chief homophobe" lost to a transgender LOL you know hes losing his shit behind closed doors.

The indian and asian candidates winning despite the racist mailers put out by their opponents.

A woman challeged a candidate that made a fb post about the women's march 'will they be home in time to make dinner'. She defeated him.

The irony is too dense this week. Hopefully this is just the beginning. 2018 is a ways to go.

It doesn't get derpier than this, folks...

Julian Assange accuses The Atlantic of editing messages with Trump Jr, then Trump Jr releases messages -- confirming The Atlantic article

@JYSexton: This blows the lid off everything. Donald Trump, Jr. was in touch with Wikileaks, who trafficked the DNC emails stolen by Russia.
@JYSexton: Boy oh boy is this the dumbest international conspiracy to undermine democracy that ever worked.

to be fair, it's hard to keep up with all the shootings and it's tough to remember to change the city/state when copying tweets for a new circumstance.

How are the odds she had no idea what the Hatch Act is?

This chucklehead just admitted to obstructing justice (because he KNEW Flynn lied to the FBI, even though he denied that he knew before...)

@realDonaldTrump: I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!
