Obama Invents a New 'Rising Sun' Presidential Seal
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., speaks during a meeting of Democratic Governors at the Chicago History Museum in Chicago Friday, June 20, 2008. A new seal debuted on Obama's podium Friday, sporting iconography used in the U.S. presidential seal, the blue background, the eagle clutching arrows on left and olive branch on right, but with symbolic differences. Instead of the Latin 'E pluribus unum' (Out of many, one), Obama's says 'Vero possumus', rough Latin for 'Yes, we can.' Instead of 'Seal of the President of the United States', Obama's Web site address is listed. And instead of a shield, Obama's eagle wears his 'O' campaign logo with a Rising Sun representing hope ahead.

Is the Great Seal of Barack Illegal?
18 USC Sec. 713 ...
(a) Whoever knowingly displays any printed or other likeness of the great seal of the United States, or of the seals of the President or the Vice President of the United States, or the seal of the United States Senate, or the seal of the United States House of Representatives, or the seal of the United States Congress, or any facsimile thereof, in, or in connection with, any advertisement, poster, circular, book, pamphlet, or other publication, public meeting, play, motion picture, telecast, or other production, or on any building, monument, or stationery, for the purpose of conveying, or in a manner reasonably calculated to convey, a false impression of sponsorship or approval by the Government of the United States or by any department, agency, or instrumentality thereof, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.
(b) Whoever, except as authorized under regulations promulgated by the President and published in the Federal Register, knowingly manufactures, reproduces, sells, or purchases for resale, either separately or appended to any article manufactured or sold, any likeness of the seals of the President or Vice President, or any substantial part thereof, except for manufacture or sale of the article for the official use of the Government of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

Long story short, I don't expect it's anywhere closer to illegal than calling a presidential nominee the "next President of the United States." In other words, deal with trivialities and minutia all you like, but this issue ain't gonna stick.
By the way, it's a pretty tight logo.

I love old beldar's blog.

[quote Asked to explain the new seal, Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, "It's a mix of presidential politics and a call for hope and change."
Snarked John McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, "I think we can all agree that we need presidential candidates that are serious enough not to play make-believe on the campaign trail."
"It's laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing all at the same time," Bounds said. [/quote]

I think you're right, and I think that's sad. It's just because people do not care to pay attention to the details. It also has a lot to do with the fact that Obama doesn't care to deal with the details in his speeches.
If only there were a way to sit every voting citizen down and explain to them how each potential presidency would affect their upcoming every day lives. Things might be different.

i'd say the cheney infatuation from the left is the closer analogy.
if somebody says cheny (obama) has a dimple on his chin that does xxxxxxx when he does xxxxxxx !
then all the pinkos (facists) go into conniptions saying "amen brotha! that damn fool is evil to the core!!"

well, this is a little more indicative of the man's character than a dimple. It was, after all, a choice. If 2 weeks ago, someone had said that Obama is likely to redesign the presidential seal to put his name on it and then will slap it on his own podium, I'd have (and a lot of people would have) said that's just nuts, nobody is that egotistical and out of touch. It's an embarrassment that none of us wants to see on a bigger stage, or as emblematic of our presidency for the next 4 to 8 years. I mean, right now everyone is hoping that someday the man doesn't redesign the seal of the United Nations to put his own name on it and then slap it on his own podium.

Indeed. This whole Obama Seal business exhibits great heaping dollops of hubris, arrogance, and bad decision making on the part of both Obama as well as his acolytes and campaign handlers...
Additionally, I consider it to be pretty darned revealing of both Obama's character and his evidently overwhelmingly dominant self-preservation instincts, that once his new imperial Obama Seal was criticized in the press, he disowned it and threw it under the bus, the same way he did Jeremiah Wright, the Trinity Church, his grandmother, Samantha Powers, etc... et al

I expect this is true, that Barack "Waffle" Obama will pivot on this soon also.

Normally you'd expect high gas prices to help the party out of power. But Obama's opposition to increased energy production is a weakness McCain could easily exploit. Durbin's comment may be a signal that Obama will pivot soon.

it is my suspicion that Dude is a hired hand in McCain's campaign. I hear John is hiring people to go around posting in forums/blogs for him and thats exactly what the Dude seems to be doing. Just curious, are there any openings? and how do you get payed? based on the brutality/hussein-joke counts?

I hear Obama is hiring people to go around questioning the sincerity of all dissenters. ;-)
Seriously though, there are a lot of people who aren't on Obama's bandwagon. Even though it is hard to accept, we aren't racists, hired-guns, bots, Big Oil, or yokels clinging to our guns and our religion. I dare say some of us may even be edumacated.

It is so easy to pick apart Obama that McCain hasn't had to hire any of us. We have fun without getting paid. Besides, we are ripping/shreading McCain at the same time...

Exactly. They both stink. I was actually pleasantly surprised to learn that Obama voted FOR the FISA bill (McCain didn't vote at all) that Bush signed today.

If race doesn't matter, then why mention it?
Truth is that race does matter to a great number of people. I wish it didn't matter. I wish that the headlines would say nothing about "First African American President".
If it matters to celebrate the difference in the skin color of McCain and Obama, then it still matters even if it is a celebration instead of KKK march.

Maybe that should be a setting sun logo. It's nice of the msm to still show the messiah with a glow however.

CAMPAIGN 2008
Glow Fading?
The latest NEWSWEEK Poll shows Barack Obama leading John McCain by only 3 points. What a difference a few weeks can make.
A month after emerging victorious from the bruising Democratic nominating contest, some of Barack Obama's glow may be fading. In the latest NEWSWEEK Poll, the Illinois senator leads Republican nominee John McCain by just 3 percentage points, 44 percent to 41 percent. The statistical dead heat is a marked change from last month's NEWSWEEK Poll, where Obama led McCain by 15 points, 51 percent to 36 percent.

So are you Spike Lee in drag or something?

Spike Lee takes Jackson to task for Obama comments
By LYNN ELBER – 23 hours ago
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Spike Lee says the Rev. Jesse Jackson's crudely phrased criticism of Barack Obama won't affect the Democrat's campaign, which the filmmaker expects to succeed at bringing "seismic" change to the world.
"I don't think his (Jackson's) comments help anybody. It's just unfortunate," Lee said after taking part in a Television Critics Association panel.
Lee predicted Obama would be elected in November.
"When that happens, it will change everything. ... You'll have to measure time by `Before Obama' and `After Obama,'" Lee said during the panel. "It's an exciting time to be alive now."
The presidency of the first African-American will ripple throughout arts, sports and more, said Lee, whose films include "Malcolm X" and "Do the Right Thing."
"Everything's going to be affected by this seismic change in the universe," he said.

Would you be just as excited if the man about to Prez were Latino? No.
Race should not matter. The fact that people are so excited about this means race does matter. The fact that people are voting for Obama MAINLY BECAUSE HE IS BLACK means race matters.
Celebrating race as a victory means the same thing as hating race. It means race still matters.
I wish it didn't matter. I wish it was just a man named McCain running against a man named Obama. Make them both purple. Just call them both men. Run on content of idea and policy.
How many of you grew up with desegregation??
I did. I grew up there in the DFW metroplex. In the second grade, my classmates and I were bused across town to a community that was 99% African American. The second graders from that community were bused to a community predominantly white.
Second graders don't hate based on race. Second graders don't like based on race.
But, our "team" uniforms were genetically picked out. Every day at recess, we started a Black/White fight. It was just fun. It was just a sport. We did not hate each other at all.
It is all so silly.

Who gives a crap if Barack Hussein Obama is black or not. Will he being black do any more than get more people called racist while criticizing him?
I hope that for every person pointing out that he's black so vote for him, it pisses off 10 more that say, f' that, we aren't talking about prom queen here, we're talking about the leader of the free world.
If this were Thomas Sowell or Condi Rice running you can be dang sure that spike lee wouldn't be out there talking about what a universe-changing event it would be. It's all politics and trying to get votes by making folks thinks that there is something special about Barack Hussein Obama being black. It's not.

Yeah Spike Lee is a bit of a nut, but to think that a black man can have a legitimate shot at being president is a momentous thing. And yes if he was hispanic or a woman or any other minority it would still be just as exciting. It represents the amount of progress this country has made. Maybe "the next moonlanding" was a bit over the top, but I think it is kinda cool this is happening in my lifetime.

Well I don't think so, are you swooning over the messiah and getting wet in the panties yourself?
I'm glad you think it's cool, it's irrelevant to me. I didn't care if Romney the mormon is elected or Jindahl the indian is elected, I don't give a crap what race they are. I certainly don't care to listen to people swooning about him being black as if that has a damn thing to do with how well he'll run the country.
