15th Roster Spot?
With the trade yesterday and the release of Josh Powell (btw- somebody forgot to start the 'Josh Powell Appreciation Thread') the Mavs have opened up a roster spot...
Is it a league rule that you have to have 15 on your roster? Surely, if they waived Powell they have something (somebody) in mind - otherwise, why would they bother to send Powell packing? Anybody have a clue?

I'm pretty sure it isn't a league rule, but somebody posted yesterday that Cuban was once quoted as saying he would always carry 15 guys. Besides why would Cuban cut a guy who is making the minimum. It just doesn't make sense to me unless there is a signing in the works. I hope Stephania.

Actually the league rule is that you can only have 12 players on your teams roster. An exception is made if you have "injured" players. A team may carry up to 3 additional players to their 12 man roster on the Injured Reserve or IR. The Mavs have had the "good luck" to always have 3 "injured" players to place on the IR the last several years.

Actually I think it is 15 on the roster but only 12 active with 3 on IR. Regardless this would be the first time the Mavs have not carried the full 15. Makes me think something is up.

It needs to be a project center. I'd prefer an enormous freak of nature, preferably a foreginer over 7'2". Someone in the mold of Bruno Sundov, perhaps.

I think I read today that Cuban is going to go with 14 players in order to 'save money...'
I guess the 15th man would just ride the pine anyway...but if Bradley and/or Fortson get hurt we're going to be 'up a creek...'

I am getting into season shape so I started combing the internet trying to find a guy that "might" be able to come in and be our 15th guy.
The guy I found is: Mikki Moore Full Name: Clinton Renard Moore Position: Center Height/Weight: 6-11 / 225 Birthdate: November 4, 1975 (Orangeburg, SC) High School: Blacksburg HS (Gaffney, SC) College: Nebraska   Last season he played for Roanoke Dazzle of the NBDL. He finished 6th in the league with 16ppg, 2nd in the league with 8.4rpg, and 2nd in the league with 1.6bpg. Oh yea, he also lead the league in Triple doubles with 17. The next closest guy was at 9. That guy is a mental midget.
BTW, there is no rule stating that you have to have 15. You are allowed to have 15. Cuban has stated we are going with 14. |
