Default MSM Strikes again. Reuters admits doctoring photos

I understand doctoring editorials, doctoring quotes but now Reuters admits to doctoring photos.

Couldn't get enough anti-israel backlash going just with the Hezbollah propoganda, they had to add some more.

Quote:
Reuters admits altering Beirut photo

Reuters withdraws photograph of Beirut after Air Force attack after US blogs, photographers point out 'blatant evidence of manipulation.' Reuters' head of PR says in response, 'Reuters has suspended photographer until investigations are completed into changes made to photograph.' Photographer who sent altered image is same Reuters photographer behind many of images from Qana, which have also been subject of suspicions for being staged

To say REUTERS doctored photos is a bit misleading. They BOUGHT photos from a photographer that had been apparently doctoring them.

You make it sound like there was a room full of executives saying "But the story would have so much more OOOMPH if we just sweeteened up the photos a little... CALL IN THE TECHIES"

lol.

There are some folks around here who could photoshop and sell much better photos. Could we design a Dallas-Mavs.com water mark, so we can be sure to take all the credit?

It is awful. The smoke was cloned, there are several buildings that were cloned too. Pretty pathetic attempt by a crappy lebanese sympathizer photographer. This isn't the first time this same guy has been caught doctoring photos either. There are several blogs talking about this moron.

Anything to make Israel look bad.

Reuters is not without culpability however....the photo editors should have caught that shoddy piece of crap before it ever hit the wire.

I imagine it is more
"anything to sell my pictures"
rather than
"anything to make Israel look bad"

the shots of an airplane firing missiles... that is what airplanes engaged in airstrikes do, fire missiles. I don't think that is a revelation to anyone. He just didn't actually get a marketable shot of the action taking place, so he made one up --- so that he'd get paid.

As far as reuters is concerned, the pictures weren't intended, or marketed as "gotcha" pictures, they were just background window dressing to the stories, they didn't drive them (we have a story about airstrikes, anyone have pics of an airstrike?)

I kinda think this is a non-story (except for as far as the career of the scrub photographer goes).

It is basically equivalent to a scenario where there was a story of on Bush and Putin making a deal at the recent g10 meetings, and Reuters included a pic that was supposed to be them meeting in St Petersburg (where the recent g10 meetings were held) but instead it was a stock picture of Putin and Bush from Gleneagles, Scotland (where the last big summit took place, about half a year ago). Yes it would be fraudulent, and yes some photographer should be in trouble... but hardly big news.

THe fact that these Beiruit photos are of a highly divisive subject overall makes people want to think about how one side is trying to screw the other side, but neither of the photos were particularly noteworthy. If the faked photos had been trying to show something like soldier shooting civilians or something, THEN there would be a story, but not with these pictures, which are frankly run-of-the-mill and everyday boring.

Since none of us are photographers professionally and subscribe to their ethical code of conduct, I say we go to the source and let them decide. Check out the blogs for the profesisonal photogrpahers and you will see that they too feel like this is an anti-Israel effort. Also, they all call for this clowns head. The facts are that he fabricated photos. He should be eliminated from the profession. Period.

But there is little doubt this man did it (not the first time mind you) because he is anti-Jew.

Tell it to those who's homes are gone or family members perished. I call horsepoo on this garbage.

This thing is going crazy. Did the MSM not expect to be used in such a manner by propagandists? Did they think that labeling them "resistence fighters" would mean they don't have to check or edit their work, that pure fantasy will make terrorists into honest journalists?

Here's a story with a few examples.
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...288406,00.html

Some serious questions need to be asked, because professional editors just can't be this bad this often.

Here's my favorite:
Dead man walking:
http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/184247.php#184247

In Tyre, dead people still sweat. And they really like to hang on to their hats.

And they get up and walk!

not quite on topic for the title of the thread, but here's a video of the infamous "green helmet" rescue worker.

http://powerlineblog.com/archives/014959.php

He's obviously using dead children to stage a photo op, loading and reloading a dead child into an ambulance, directing cameras, moving people to clear the shot, etc.

This guy "green helmet" has shown up in a lot of coverage that gets picked up around the world.
