Clint is a
Top 10 rebounder (kinda important as we were 29th in rebound %)
Top 10 screener
Top 5 as PNR receiver (Ts%)
Top 15 in defensive rating
Dude is not only the first starting-caliber center we?ve had since Tyson, he?s a top 10 to 15 talent at his position RN. He?s what we need but he?s going to cost

Just guessing, but I think it comes down to are you willing to part with the FRP, or Green. Def not both. Its tough, i really want to see Green's progress, but FRP are super important and could possibly net a bigger return in 2027.

If you don't have to give up Green, then I don't know why you'd value the 2027 first so badly. Just put some protections on it.
We need to win now.

I think Green is a good TDL candidate.
Let's see if he continues to progress and how well OMax and Williams fit.
I also like how close in age he is to Luka and am hoping they can build good chemistry.
Use the pick on Capela now and then maybe trade Green at TDL if OMax and Williams flourish.

I'd just stand pat before trading Green for Capela who is a bridge to Lively. I'd rather see how Lively progresses. He seems to be a hard worker and quick learner. With Maxi back to health and Holmes and Lively, might be worth seeing how that works. I like Green's defense in the backcourt. Curry, Luka , and KI defense in the backcourt is not so great. We'll see how Hardy progresses. Who knows how long K will be here. Just don't see where getting Capela or a center is imminent to be dealing Green or even sa future 1.
Wyih all the talk of getting Capela as part of a Siakum 3 way, I'd say Mavs should be looking into Siakum not Capela.

Likely is gonna be mostly in G league til next year. I can all but promise that.
Getting Capela wouldn't hurt Lively's progression at all. In fact, it would enhance it as Lively would not be relied upon to be good now.

I believe I read that because of the Kyrie 2029 FRP, we can't put protections on 2027. It's either unprotected or nothing.

That's stupid. So we're basically in some weird quandary with regards to having assets to trade for Capela.
My idea was adding in Maxi as I feel the front court would then be too crowded, and he is hurt a lot. Plus, Atlanta might want a big in return after losing Clint.
Otherwise, I really can't see the FO going ahead with Green or a completely unprotected first.

I like Jones a lot. He reminds me of Marion with his hops.
But despite both being 6?5?, they aren?t really interchangeable
Jones Jr is a 4 (90% of min) who played some 3/5
Green played 75% of his minutes at the 2 and 24% at the 3s
Still we have a huge glut at SG. If we?re not trading THJ and not guaranteeing Green minutes/a r?le then maybe we should trade him for a top 10-15 center.

I'm surprised we played Green at the 2 like that. So where the hell did Hardy play? PG?
Someone has to go. Way too many guards.

Another plot point here:
Mavs have been working on an extension for Green since June. The fact that we haven't had an extension means that there may have been a snag. If we don't get him extended soon, he will be a nightmare of a RFA. I know he was averaging 30mpg down the stretch, but I do wonder what his role/minutes will be like on this coming year's team now that we have a few nba-level talents on the roster. Do we match any offer for a guy who hasn't yet found a solid rotation? Can he get an offer that would be too rich what we're willing to pay?
In that case, it might make sense to trade him now rather than going through that headache next summer.

some interesting Derrick Jones Jr stats from last season:
-shot 36.7% on corner 3s last year
-was in the 100th percentile in defensive versatility
-guarded Cs and PFs 46.1% of the time he was on the court
-had a TS% of 62.9%
-generated 1.36 PPP on P&Rs as the roll man (100%tile)
|
I'd add that only Caruso had a better on/off +/- for the Bulls. He impacts winning and he does exactly what we want: switches defensively, moves without the ball, can run the PNR with Kyrie and Luka.
The real issue here is that Williams and Jones are both below average at rebounding from the PF position. If we don't address rebounding elsewhere, we're likely going to see our rebounding be in the bottom 5-10 teams again if not dead last again

He's one of the more offensively talented big men in the league though. No matter how bad his defense is, that alone doesn't explain why he's about to leave his 7th team in 8 years, and nobody seems to want him for even the veteran minimum. He must have a really negative presence in the locker room on top of his horrible defense.

Yeah, the constant shitting on Wood is beneath what a franchise should be doing right now. We get it, you don't like him. So why did you give up a first rounder for him then?

Ohh and DJJ for 2.7 mil is way better than Thybuille for the MLE. I think DJJ is every bit as good...neither are really that good. They are defensive specialists with limited offense.

I mean you could do a lot worse at the 15th spot for a free agent. Its a good deal, idk how much it moves the needle on the floor.

I still think wood would be best center on team until Lively proves out. He rebounds and blocks shots when defending in the paint. Unless Luka and KI were against him coming back then I think Mavs should have paid him what he made last year on a year deal.
Greg Brown has a lot of raw potential. He could easily beat someone out for a 2 way.
Derrick Jones signing is OK. I'd rather have Romeo but about the same level of signing.

I don't get why anyone in the Mavs would want Wood. Luka was sick of him. Kidd was sick of him. I know Luka wasn't perfect defensively, but if your star hates you and your coach hates you, I think you are done with the franchise.

I must have missed where it became this well known that Luka hates Wood.

Multiple eye rolls
Screaming at him constantly until he gave up
Luka says he has ?no sense of humor?
Best compliment he ever gave Wood was that ?he takes it when I yell at him?

Luka screams at every player on the team though except newcomer Kyrie. He commented that he's a great player and he was killing it back around December. Maybe he does hate him. Idk

Fake insider telling us something we already know, but it's better than bickering about Christian Wood.

This roster intrigues me. I need to convince my wife that we need season tickets.

It does make sense to basically replace McGee with Morris.
We had way too many 7 footers on this team anyway.

I'm guessing this is sarcasm? It's so hard to tell on the internet
7footers
Lively 7'1"
6'9"-6'11"
Kleber 6'10"
Powell 6'10"
