Definitely sarcasm.
I honestly can't remember any starting caliber 7 foot center on the Mavs roster since Chandler.
Bogut is about the only one that comes to mind.
I couldn't care less about losing McGee but I would have preferred to replace him with a center.
I am wondering if the Morris signing is an indication they are shopping Maxi.

Yea a move like snagging Usman Garuba would make way more sense for this team/roster than throwing Markief Morris on the end of the bench. Upside way more present given age and fits more of a need for defense and rebounding. Garuba is in that mold of only being 6'8" but with a 7'2" wingspan with noted success defending big men and ability to switch out to perimeter.

I've said Maxi for Capela all along, but I'm not sure how the numbers work now without McGee's salary being added. I know Holmes can be traded 60 days after the trade but can't remember when that was actually official. Should be soon though. Holmes/Maxi for Capela works money-wise.

If we pull off a Capela trade, then I'm 100% in on this season.
Capela/Lively/Kleber/Powell is a solid center spot.
If we don't? I still think this team improved, but we are going to faceplant in the playoffs.
Powell/Kleber/Holmes/rookie C isn't going to get you out of the first round.

That's why I'm not neccesarily opposed to include the 2027 FRP for Capela.
If we traded Holmes/Maxi/2027 FRP for Capela/2027 SRP, we would be a contender now, and still have a nice young promising core of Luka/Hardy/Green/Williams/Lively/OMax/Lawson/Miles/2025 FRP/2026FRP.

The problem is that we can't not do it. Capela's rebounding would be the difference in 10 wins IMHO. That's how badly we need it.
I see us as a .500 team right now without him.

Yeah I agree, use the pick. There seems to be a lot of one way players once we get past Luka Kyrie Grant Williams, and none of those one ways are great rebounders. Im cautiously optimistic on Holmes.
I hope we can see a small resurgence of Dante Exum in spurts, growth of Hardy/Josh, but I still would like them to go for Capela.

I don't see .500. I see like .550-.600. We can push the tempo and get some more regular season wins.
But the bigger thing for me is that as built, this team is a first-round exit at best. Teams with major holes can hide them in the regular season, but get majorly exposed in the playoffs.
With Capela at least in theory could sniff the second round/WCF.

I posted this on another site and the ones that replied all said no, to including Maxi in the trade.
Would you do Holems and Kleber (23mm) for Capela and Garrison Mathews (22.6mm)?
C : Capela - Powell - Lively
PF: Williams - Jones - Morris
SF: Green - Hardaway - Prosper
SG: Irving - Exum - Mathews
PG: Doncic - Curry - Hardy

I?d be in.
11 more days until we can make it happen. Fingers crossed that?s what is holding up the Capela. Trade.

I will never understand the irrational Maxi love. He just isn't that good. I mean, I'd rather have him than not having him for nothing, but for Capela it's a no-brainer.
If you can do Holmes/Kleber without giving up a pick, then you do it all day long.

That is an absolute no brainer if we dont have to include a pick. I'm not sure why anyone would be against moving Maxi for Capela in that deal.
Makes you wonder if the ones against it have watched any Mavs games in the past 5 or so years and how our so-called centers were getting brutalized in the paint on both ends.
That is basically clamoring for perpetual mediocrity....Good Grief.

Doubtful that it's Maxi holding up any deal. It's more likely Green, Hardy, or the 2027 FRP that the Hawks are holding out for...

Good to know. We will see if anything happens, but I'm a bit skeptical since the FO has talked up Holmes AND said they are keeping THJ. Maybe that's posturing, but this starting center thing has eluded this franchise for forever it seems like.
We all know they want a center, but do they have the guts to pull it off?

Cuban is always posturing.
Still, the waiver of the trade kicker troubles me. If Holmes gave up 1.8mill to be with us, it would be pretty douchey to trade him without somehow making it up to him.
I hope we either give him a launchpad to rehab his career or we trade him and Cuban pays him that money after he's done playing. Rewarding a loyalty move with a slap in the face would be a bad look.

Well let's assume Siakam isn't going to happen. A straight trade with Atlanta will have them wanting big man replacement, and I think Holmes/Max is a pretty good deal to fill that hole in the interim. But we know it will have to be sweeter than that.
If the trade is expanded though...Maxi/THJ/Holmes for Capela/Hunter works. Again, I think Atlanta needs a sweetener there.
It's just hard to fathom Atlanta not being that trade partner though. Really haven't heard an inkling of any other team lately.

Plus with Collins gone, Holmes could slot in at the 4 for them. It could be mutually beneficial so it wouldn't be douchey to trade him because he could get the exposure required to get a new contract-- at least his best shot at one and some run on the court.

Australia - Slovenia is going to be crazy
Giddey is Luka Jr and two Mavs are on the team in Exum and Green
Luka absolutely tearing up the league but Australia has the top ranked defense.
Gonna be cool

Plus, Luka had his dud last game to save it for a badass game against a better team on a bigger stage. I can feel it.

Yes, it's the same timeline as the Capela contract. He is hurt a lot though. But it's basically the same move.

Met up with Scottie Pippen at work. He looks like he can still ball.

Why not all three? Would be really nice for the roster if those three balled out.
On Adams, I'd rather have Capela. **but he's better than our current situation

Easily the team that makes the most sense for him. And the Lakers are looking poised to be dominant this year.

Just another in the long line of not being able to get a big man that sticks.
We're getting close to camp and still no signs of getting a starting center.

With the huuuuuuge caveat that this is now his like 9th team. I understand the Mavs inability to develop and/or have a big stick other Powell or Maxi, but using Wood in this instance doesn't feel quite right.
But the Lakers make a lot of sense. Lebron will squash any bullshit Wood might bring in fairly quickly. Wood provides shooting and size/depth they need to make a run. Still think Lebron's age will continue to show and AD still has to prove healthy.

They knew who Wood was and still traded for him. Onus is on them.
Wood never made a promise on court he couldn't keep.
I get it, he isn't what people want him to be. Maybe accepting him for who he is would do the next team wonders.

He will be out of the league in a year or two if he keeps being "who he is" -- no love lost for Christian Wood from me.

quoted for truth.
I don't hate Wood and I respect that he dug his way into the league from the G-league by working hard on his offense, but his complete inability to listen to a coach, play defense, and hustle is a problem. He's a sparkplug off the bench at best which is why he went from "best FA on the market" to barely getting a vet minimum from the Lakers.
I'm sad he didn't work out here, but he's like a lot of people I've dated who keep claiming they will change and never do. He's been around the league for eight years and isn't any closer to understanding NBA playcalling than he was when he first started. I'd rather have 15 guys that know the system and buy in than some supposed unicorn that is going to cause locker room drama with his missed assignments.
Not going to miss him at all.
