Without the draft steal Nuggets would have a horrible offseason. Now its just sucking hard considering the moves from Lakers/Spurs/Mavs/Blazers/Hornets.

I really like Kleiza and think the Nuggets did a horrible job of using him. It'll be interesting to see who they replace him with.
Looks like Wafer will be joining him there too.

because of trades or free agency the Nuggets have lost six players off their roster from this past season. Kleiza, Steven Hunter, Dahntay Jones, Sonny Weems, Johan Petro and Jason Hart are gone.

Jones and Kleiza are the only real losses. None of the other guys mattered but the Nuggets need to find someone to replace Kleiza/Jones. Latest rumor had them looking at Szerbiak which I don't think helps at all but we'll see.

Did any of those guys even play in the series where they dominated the Mavs? I saw glimpses of Kleiza and I saw Jones out there but those other guys? I didn't even know they played for the Nuggets lol. And before I saw Jones with the Nuggets I didn't even know he was still in the league lol. I remember he got drafted by the Grizz and never saw him since.

Dahntay Jones played good for the Nuggets. He was the biggest loss of their offseason. Good defensive player.

The New Orleans Hornets, in a move to shed some payroll after the recent acquisition of Emeka Okafor, have agreed to trade swingman Rasual Butler to the Los Angeles Clippers for a future second-round pick, according to NBA front-office sources.
The trade is expected to be announced later Wednesday.
Butler is scheduled to earn $3.9 million next season. With the Clippers looking for an extra shooter and depth at both shooting guard and small forward, sources said the team was amenable to absorbing the final year of Butler's contract, which will save New Orleans nearly $8 million when factoring in the luxury-tax implications.

Smith Told Pritchard Blazers 'Caught A Break' With Turkoglu
After Hedo Turkoglu backed out of a verbal agreement with Portland in order to sign with the Raptors, many felt the Blazers let a top player slip away.
But Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith didn't agree.
In a conversation with Blazers' general manager Kevin Pritchard, Smith told Pritchard that he had "caught a break" with Turkoglu signing elsewhere and made it clear the Blazers "weren't missing out on anything," sources tell RealGM's Alex Kennedy.
Smith didn't feel that Turkoglu was worth the five-year, $50 million Portland was ready to spend.
Turkoglu spent five seasons in Orlando before signing with Toronto.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like basically he's bashing two GM's for their willingness to pay for an essential player of his finals run, whom he let slip away for Bass and Gortat and a lot of bad blood with the Mavs organization(not to speak of the fans).
So in essence he's talking sh*t about his colleagues and a former employee?

Otis Smith is truly turning out to be a d**khead. But hey, if Orlando wins a championship this year then d**khead away! Until then, screw him.

Three reasons Orlando isnt winning a trophy:
A) Championship losers rarely make it back to the championship game in consecutive years
B) Turk was their veteran leadership. They replaced Turk with a volume shooter in Carter-- a phenomenal talent that should be called the T-Mac of the East for his ability to choke.
C) I counted 4 teams in the West that could have polished the Magic off, and of those, at least 2 got better (Spurs,Mavs), while the other two kept up their level (Lakers/Nuggets)
Orlando isnt winning a championship. They wont even make it back to the ECF without the good luck of missing both the Celtics and Cavs.
As for Otis-- he can suck it. I hope his team realizes how much of a two-face he is: loving players when they lead the team to the finals, and talking crap about them a few months later. Players should be very aware of his total lack of loyalty.

Overpaid Lewis horrible and will pay him with 33 years 24mio
Paid his backup center 14mio less than Hedo
But still bashing....

The Celtics or Cavs will make sure the Magic go no where and screw Otis Smith all the way to Hell.
I can't wait until Oct 5th when the Mavs stick it to the Magic. I will not count for anything but, pride still I'll take that win.

What a solid trade for the Clippers in getting Butler for nothing basically.

I thought he was still signing with the Celtics but they were trying to get him in a s/t instead of using the LLE on him?

We should remember though, the one favor Otis Smith did for the Mavs this offseason is not keep Hedo. If he had kept Hedo then Shawn Marion remains a Raptor (they were working on signing him at the time) Who knows how this offseason looks if we miss on Matrix, don't get Gortat. I think the fanbase would be about ready to riot demanding Donnie be fired if all we add is Tim Thomas and Drew Gooden and lose Bass and Hollins.

Well, the Mavs would still have the Stack chip, so nobody knows how well or poorly it would have been used.

All salary dump. Butler as a SF doesnt make any sense here even though he can shoot the ball, but it does go to show you that teams are willing to throw away decent-to-good talent for almost nothing. It gets me excited about the trade deadline.

Most reports have Sessions going to the Clippers intead of the Knicks now. I like the team they're building and wouldn't surprise me if they make it into the playoffs this year.

Davis/Sessions/Telfair/Collins
Gordon/Butler
Thornton/Butler
Griffin/Smith
Kaman/Camby/Jordan
I marked the core with longer contracts (or probably extension like Thornton) if Sessions come. Next year a lot of old contract trash is gone (Madsen, Davis etc). Its a good core and the Sessions a nice security for Davis, but they also pay then almost 20mio a year for the pg spot. I miss the defense at 1-3. Also Thornton and Butler are horrible 1-dimensional.

with 3-4 playoff spots wide open for the taking in the West its their best chance in years to make a playoff berth. I wouldnt expect them to be making any firesale deals and may actually be looking to make a few more moves even if it means taking on salary.

New York to Memphis
Memphis to LAC
LAC to Minnesota
Minnesota to Miami
They say he'll probably stay, but he'd be a useful player to send to Utah since they're looking for some talent included in a Boozer trade.

I seriously hope that the Heat are able to pull out a trade for Boozer. Give them a 4 like that and maybe we'll have a better run at pulling Bosh next offseason. I know that some are against it, but I personally think that if you have a chance to pull that kind of talent then you jump on, regardless of the possibilities of it creating a logjam.

i'm watching france vs italy right now and it's funny to see freshly drafted spurs guard Nando de Colo already exposing the look of utterly disbelief, we know all too well from T.Duncan, everytime he gets called for a foul, even with his team up by a dozen.
btw Nicolas Batum for France and Marco Bellinelli for Italy looking pretty good
Italy with Bargnani and Bellinelli
France without Noah and M.Pietrus and of course without Booby, but with Batum, Turiaf and T.Parker (Tony Parkör, TONY PARKEUR, C'EST TONY PARKEUR!!!) and therefore kickin' ass!

let's hate on Otis some more?
Quote:
Experts: Magic Aren't Team To Beat In East
The Magic represented the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals this past June, but many don't see them as the team to beat heading into the 2009-10 season.
Instead, the Cavaliers and Celtics are filling that role.
The Orlando Sentinel polled 11 NBA experts, asking them to rank the East's teams from top to bottom.
The Magic placed third, behind Cleveland Boston.
"When I learned they were going after Vince [Carter], I thought it was to play him next to Hedo Turkoglu (the team MVP in my eyes), not replace him," said Ric Bucher, an NBA reporter and analyst for ESPN. "I was ready to anoint that team the best in the East. It's hard to see them having the same blazing start they had last year with all the changes. Let's put it this way: If this year's team does what last year's team did, it will be a bigger surprise than last year's team doing it, which was only the biggest shock in the league last year."
In addition to trading for Carter, Orlando signed free agents Brandon Bass and Matt Barnes, and re-signed center Marcin Gortat.
"Continuity tends to win championships," said Steve Kyler, the editor and publisher of HOOPSWORLD. "There is little doubt Orlando improved the talent level of the team, but can the new guys fit in as effectively as last year's team did? Can you capture magic twice?"
