good article giving props to powell
here was an interesting quote:
"It’s both hilarious and amazing that teams still don’t know what to do with the Mavericks’ handoff action sets they ran out of timeouts: Dallas ranks second in the NBA in after-the-time-out (ATO) play efficiency at 1.001 points per possession this season. This number balloons to 1.175 points per possession with Doncic and Powell on the floor in the post-trade period. "

THJ posted a pic on IG of him shooting. Looks like he’s out of the walking boot.

Yea I saw a tweet yesterday quoting Kidd as saying it's not likely we see THJ again this season, even in playoffs.

We just have to make the playoffs and then we'll have a top-tier shooter
Then again, I don't think any Mavs fan is dying to see THJ.

Kidd was asked about playoffs and stuck to his "he's a ways away" and doubts we will see THJ even in playoffs.

From the DMN
Burke in protocols: For the fourth time this season, Mavericks guard Trey Burke entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols, joining swingman Sterling Brown.
The difference is that Brown tested positive for COVID-19. In Burke’s case, it’s because he missed the testing window. Of the four times he has been in protocols, three have been for missing a test. Burke is unvaccinated, which means he must get tested more often than players and staff members who are vaccinated.
Asked whether he is concerned about Burke’s continued missed tests, coach Jason Kidd said: “No, I’m not concerned. If you miss it, you miss it. We’re grownups.”

Not to trash on KP. I kinda like the guy and have been casually following Washington
But it’s kind of amazing that his shooting is exactly the same with Washington as it was with us
28.3% in Dallas
28.3% in DC

I don't want to trash him either, but he is what he is at this point in his career. A good player who has talent but severe limitations, one of them being that he is an extremely streaky and not at all reliable shooter.

Well KP at 20 mil a season makes sense. 30 million is what makes it untenable.
But it also goes back to consistency. Is KP going to get you 30 tonight or 14? You just don't know. It's a motor issue IMO. He just doesn't have that "drive" that you need from a star. He looks disinterested and then takes dumb shots more often than not.

In 2022:
Mavs are
12th in offense
4th in defense
5th in NET rating (only Suns, Grizz, Celts, and Wolves are better)
Almost top ten in each category
One weakness? We've been 20th in rebounding percentage in that time.

I watched a few of their games he did score 30, 23 and 35 in some of those last 5 games
He's been really good for them on the boards which is surprising.
Over his last 5 games he's totaled 9, 10, 9, 10 & 8
In three of those 5 games he shot 50% of better. His assist in those 5 games were really impressive totaling 3, 3, 6, 5, & 3 but he was passing really well in Dallas also.
IN that stretch he's also had games where he attempted 7, 11 and 13 FT's which implies to me he's been playing aggressive.
Overall I think he's played very well in Washington.
The question is can he stay up right and healthy for me. He's pretty much in the same boat as Zion and AD right when it comes to health.

I love me some KP.
I didn't like the guy on our roster, even at a reasonable contract, but it's hard not to like the person and the player. I'm really happy he's playing relatively well.

Despite having a stretch that dropped us to 2 games under .500, only three teams have more wins than us
Suns
Grizz
Heat

One underrated aspect of DFS’s hot play is that we no longer have THJ and KP chucking up a bunch of bad looks. Because SD, JB, and Luka are aggressive about getting into the paint they tend to open things up allowing guys like Bull and DFS to get into rhythm. Before you might’ve had KP or THJ stop the ball movement to take an ill advised shot.

Not sure about Brogdon's abilities really... is he able to run/create offense at the same level as JB? I get the feeling he's probably a better defender but don't really know much else about how he's playing these days.
I'd be up for getting Turner but i'd really like the mavs to keep this year's 1st rounder. If they need to give up a future first that's fine, but I feel like they need to pick a quality young big in this year's draft to grow and groom even if they do get an established vet like Turner.

I kinda want to see a Luka version.
That was one of the greatest Mavs moments of the modern era.

Rudy Gobert now a potential Mavs target according to Mark Stein if Utah decides to blow it up
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba...3cda78f54bbb3e
The Mavericks and Raptors are among the teams that would be interested in Rudy Gobert if the Jazz make him available this summer, Marc Stein of Substack says on his latest podcast (h/t Real GM).
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon mentioned Dallas as a possible destination earlier this week. Stein confirms that and adds Toronto to the mix, saying the Raptors have been in the market for a center for a long time.

Here’s a fun stat:
Donovan averages 2 passes a game to Rudy Gobert.
Not assists. Passes…
I think I saw earlier Mitchell to Gobert=171 PASSES
Trae Young to Capela= 172 ASSISTS

Not sure if theres anything the Mavs have that Jazz would want for Gobert. THJ? I really dont want to give up anyone of value....
Personally dont think the Mavs need Gobert to get to a championship, they just need a tall center thats competent at the rim.

I do lol. That's messed up what they did to him. He shouldn't have been waived like that. I am not saying he was a great player or anything like that but playoffs are about to start. He worked his tail off all year and doesn't get a shot at the playoffs.

I agree it’s sort of a shitty thing to do. Unless he wanted more PT and was being a pain. I always wonder to what extent they take other players thoughts/feelings into account. It’s amazing to me that teams will just trade away or cut another players friend as if they aren’t going to care. Everyone knows it’s a business, but chemistry does matter. That’s why I like us keeping Pinson and Boban. We have positive vibes going post-Rick, much looser atmosphere but also improving our intensity. I hope we keep Pinson on as a coach since I think we’ll need roster spots for guys with upside next season. Wonder if Pinson would be open to that? Would not be the worst career move for him. Being a Mav for life is a pretty rewarding gig. I’ve been critical of Cuban but I love that about him.

The NBA is a business after all.
Per ESPN
The move would allow the Nets to convert Kessler Edwards' two-way contract to a standard NBA deal, making him eligible for the postseason. The second-round pick has become a regular part of the rotation.
