The Mavericks are just nearly as good, or nearly as exciting without the Diggler.
I will feel a lot better about the Mavs when Nowitzki drops his first 38 point, 17 rebound game. Hopefully this will be sooner and not later.

I don't want to hear ANYONE EVER say that Dirk isn't the "best" or "most important" player on this team again! Even if Dirk's numbers don't reflect it... he is the best player on this team and he is playing the best. It is just that he has the entire defense prepared to deal with him night in and night out.

There is nothing wrong with criticizing a team if your points are valid. But most of the armchair coaches on this board talk pseudo-basketball-ese and make results oriented comments as if they actually have an understanding of the game at the pro level. Most of the comments are based on disappointment from unrealistic expectations or the most ludicrous notion that you sitting in your barc-o-lounger knows more about how to win basketball games than Nelson. Dirk and Nash have a Stockton-to-Jerk (err, Malone) type relationship. When they're feeling it, their offense gets flowing...and everyone else's offense is flowing...so IMO, Nowitzki is second in in-game importance only to Nash.

Dirk is best player on the Mavs. He is the player the Mavs can least afford to be without in the playoffs. He is arguably the player the Mavs can least afford to be without during the regular season (but with our depth at PF this is a little easier in the regular season than in the playoffs). Dirk is the best scorer on the team and has the potential to be the best rebounder. He is a damn fine shooter, and the mavs are in a shooting funk.
All that said, please Dirk take you sweet time about coming back. Make sure that the ankle is 100% and that you won't be risking long term problems with your return. We can afford to stumble alone for another 10 or 15 games without you. We can't afford for you to become the next Grant Hill.
