Brunson loved the Mavs so much that he now plays for the Knicks.

Mavs to be the next super team.....LeBron and Draymond will join the team according to Bill Simmons.

Do I believe it? Nope. But kind of fun to think about it.

Nobody stopped the Mavs front office from offering Brunson's dad a job a year ago or so. As Mavs Moneyball guys and others have reported, the Mavs never offered him the big money they could have early on to ensure he didn't bolt. The Knicks father in the org stuff started after it was clear that the Mavs org was screwing the pooch on resigning Brunson. WE suck

And no shooting! Unless Luka learns to become a better spot up 3 point shooter. Not Lebron?s strength either.

Before you all wish for Cuban to trade Luka for a bunch of picks and scraps, remember there is no guarantee that this org would know how to rebuild and do anything since Cuban proved he was the stupidest guy in the room circa 2012 by misjudging the ramifications of the CBA via dry powder, having the 8th pick in 2017 and getting a generational superstar in 2018 then botching the 2019 free agency period and missing on getting a true young 2nd piece in the 2020 draft ala Bane or Maxey who went well after Green and then whiffing on the mid level exemption by spending on an unplayable Big in McGee. But ya lets go ahead and blow it up so we can watch Mark and gang have a series of 20 and 62 seasons.

I?m not advocating blowing anything up and wouldn?t trade Luka for anything. I too want them to focus on scouting, drafting and player development. Cuban is an unmitigated idiot in my opinion. I was saying Dray and Lebron leaves us with too little shooting. Not that I think that will actually happen.

Agree I would actually hate to see those guys here. Would like to see a young core grow around Luka.

There were rumors of the the Knicks going hard for Brunson long before FA started like the summer before.
You won't get any FO apologists around here, but to act like Brunson wasn't a bad actor in one of the biggest and most obvious tamperings in NBA history is silly. He is saying newspaper stuff to make him sound like the good guy. I'm fine with that, but he still wanted to be a Knick with him being THE pg at the end of the day.
The bigger crime was letting an asset like that walk for nothing. That's on Donnie Nelson for structuring that contract.

Yeah if we are lucky enough to land in the top-10 I?d love to see us draft and keep someone. Whitmore, Walker, Dick, Kris Murray, Hendricks and others I?m sure I?m forgetting all fit a need for us. Of course, all of that is contingent on things like: how much do we like the players available and, is there a young vet available (like OG) that is gettable for that pick and something else?
Would love to see us build a young core around Luka, Hardy, Green and Top-10 pick. If top-10 player is a big wing then we are a young Center away from having a nice young starting group. Assuming Hardy/Luka is viable defensively. Personally, I think Hardy has been a pleasant surprise on that end.

Agreed. And IMO, his comments about Dallas is fake roses from JB.

It's not revisionist history. Some of us actually pay attention to the little things and don't overreact to every little article.
Again, if Brunson loved Dallas, then he would've stayed. This is a lot simpler than people try to make it out to be.
But it looks like he made the right decision since the Mavs are trash.

If they would have gone 5 for 160, Brunson would have turned down? Not saying they should have done that but there is a floating scale of what Brunson would have accepted at different times over the past 2 years. If the goal was retaining they could have. They misjudged what he would become

Brunson didn't give the Mavs a meeting in the end. That's on him and him alone to live with. Mavs couldn't have offered him that as they weren't given the chance. Usually when a team takes a chance on you and provides the platform to get to the spot Brunson was at, it's a simple thing to give them the same chance.
Brunson wanted to be in New York. I'm tired of talking about the guy.

When Cuban signaled his line was 22m, theres no reason to meet. What would be the point of a meeting? Thats Cuban spin imo. If the Mavs wanted to offer Knicks type money, its very easy to relay that message before a meeting.

Per Shams: NBA has denied Mavs protest of March 22 game against GS.
?Game officials could have taken better steps to better manage this particular situation.. that did not provide a basis.. of upholding a game protest? -NBA statement

Maybe of all time too.
Like, he said he didn't get us the correct personnel this season because he didn't realize how the game had changed? WTF does that mean?
He just doesn't know what he is doing. The loudest people always have the least to say.

Believe who you want, my friends. That's your right. I bet it's somewhere in the middle and as soon as NYK had upped their offer he was gone either way. Again, no chance to match, offer more, etc. that's on Brunson and his camp and...fuck em.

I guess where Cuban screwed up is not taking seriously daddy Brunson being hired by the Knicks and the Knicks clearing that cap space. The writing was on the wall.
So when he said yesterday, "When the parents got involved" it's like he was caught off guard. There were rumors the summer before of the Knicks going after Brunson. How on earth would that suddenly surprise you?
And that's how I've perceived nearly all of his doings with FA etc. They are caught off guard, with no reasoning as to why.

Game keep changing or he thinks its changing. Remember when he thought he would be the smartest guy in the room with the DUST chip? The game is not changing that much. Even if it is, everyone is playing with the same rules. Saying he was caught off guard really says a lot.

Holy fn shit. I hope the NBA takes that pick away for this blatant tanking. Its the worst tanking job ive seen and Kidd just comes straight out and saya every single thing except the actual word "tank". What an unmitigated disaster...that is perfectly fitting for our season.
Cuban and Nico are a problem. Cuban because he's been a weasel. Nico because he will swallow any load Cuban tosses out. He doesn't have enough skins to say No about something. He's happy to have the job. Nico also said "ppl forget about frank", " Kidd is our guy". Our top 2 guys in the org are not capable.
Unfortunately morons will still buy tickets.

I don't know how Kidd keeps his job after that. And I'm now thinking Kidd has no actual control over the team.
But that's even more of a reason for fans to check out. Cuban running everything means that it's a carousel of shit.

That whole presser tells me that Kidd isn't running shit. He won't even say that he disagrees with it. He obviously doesn't agree with it unless he's sitting up there lying on the FO, which has the highest odds of him getting fired.

I?ve seen tons of Knicks fans today, acting like this is the first example of tanking, and it?s hilarious, but I just assumed these are people who barely pay attention to the NBA. What is the disaster here? Kidd didn?t lie? The worst thing that could happen is a fine.

Well. I'm talking about the timing of shutting it down. Yea, let's just yank it hard left and aim for keeping the pick now. We aren't in control of anything we are left trying to do. That's part of the disaster. We had a fn tank in the bag but we managed to fvck that up. Then Kidd gets up there and says everything except the word tank and points the finger at Cuban and Nico. Cuban got fined $600k in 2018 for basically this same thing. Everything about this is a disaster. The season in general is too.

A reminder of one of the big reasons we lost a key asset for nothing last year. This from the SI article last offseason:
"Instead of signing Brunson to a normal four-year rookie contract that would?ve made him a restricted free agent after the third year, he was signed to a straight four-year deal that makes him an unrestricted free agent this summer capable of leaving the Mavs empty handed."

what was the reasoning behind this? I know donnie was involved, but I just assumed it was so Cuban could save like 50 bucks lol

Ostensibly to outsmart everyone and line up the most dry powder to sign the imaginary free agent superstar we never sign.

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to line up with the summer Giannis was supposed to be a free agent. It was Plan Powder for a superstar that signed an extension and never became a free agent. Similar to how they traded the pick when Giannis was available in the draft so they could create a little more money for the Dwight Howard free agency.
