Anthony Johnson just traded
The Atlanta Hawks today acquired guard Anthony Johnson from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for the Hawks’ 2007 second-round draft pick, according to Hawks Executive Vice PresidentGeneral Manager Billy Knight.
“We’re happy to be able to bring Anthony Johnson back to Atlanta,” Knight said. “He provides us with another veteran presence, and brings a great deal of regular season and postseason experience to our club.”
Entering his third stint with the Hawks, Johnson has played in 40 games this season with the Mavericks, averaging 3.8 ppg, 2.0 apg and 1.2 rpg in 14.1 mpg (.411 FG%, .724 FT%).

i don't understand this one unless we are making room for another trade

what?
this is bs right?
why would the mavs trade an ins. policy at backup PG for a 2nd rd. pick?
If this is true then something else is about to go down.. where is the link to this story?

Uhhh...why?
For a second rounder?
I'm confused. I take back what I said about the Najera trade.
I mean, are we clearing a roster spot to bring two players back in a Croshere trade?

I found it in Chad Ford's chat as well.
What a weird move. It's a pure cost-cutting maneuver unless they're trying to create a trade exception.

It's probably to clear a roster spot to make room for a 2 for 1 trade... OR to just pick up KVH (or someone similar!) off the street later.

What are the odds they traded Johnson to open up a postion to try and add Bibby?

This actually makes a lot of sense.
David Lord suggested reacquiring Van Horn, and I wouldn't have a problem with that at all.

My head is spinning right now - I hope Dallas finishes its moves before the end of the day or I won't be able to sleep tonight!

There is either something else coming, (WHY, WE HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NBA), or management got really really dumb. I assume it is the former - which is really bad if it is for a guy like Bibby!

if its just to sign keith why didnt we cut JJB? I hate aj2 as much as the next guy but if something happens to either devin or jet who would you rather have getting minutes, JJB or Aj2???

Well the trade deadline ends today, so I am pretty sure you have nothing to worry about here. With that said, a KVH signing could come much later, but again, why?

Hey, I guess it's possible that Avery trusts JJB as much as he trust AJ now, and told them to get something of value for AJ.
Who knows.

it wont be for bibby unless its just the expiring contract for bibby(in which case id be thrilled) but I do think your right something is coming. I dont think you should ever turn down an obvious chance to get better but if whatever else ends up happening isnt a no brainer ill be really pissed.

Man someone must really want JJB to get some minutes around here after he ate the wattered down NBA up if this doesn't lead to something bigger.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but to answer your first question, the reason to trade Super Spare instead of just cutting Barea is that Johnson makes 2.64 million this year and next. It saves a lot more money to get rid of him than it does to cut Barea.

I can't imagine getting really pissed about anything related to Anthony Johnson as long as it doesn't involve him getting substantial playing time.

I know AJ was rather poor offensively with some fairly good defense but he was a tremendous insurance policy with playoff experience. You don't just give that away when your starting PG, (when George isn't in anyway), is anything but dependable. Crazy move UNLESS JJB is ready to go or unless another move comes getting us an even better backup PG.

To be fair, an Atlanta 2nd round pick is kinda like a late first round pick - only 4 teams currently with a worse record!

I would think if we were flipping the second round pick in another trade, the deals would've been announced together. I wouldn't think they'd have announced this and then still been working on the trade needing the second rounder.

the really pissed part wont be Aj2. Its because i think something else is coming and whatever it might be worries me. Then again i have alot of faith in donnie so Ill definitely give him the benefit of the doubt.

I think it would have been preferable to have an insurance policy myself (and everybody knows how little I think of Super Spare's ability), but I don't think that this can be labeled a "crazy move" under any circumstances. Even if they simply dumped Super Spare to save money because they didn't figure he was going to play any more this season, I'm okay with that. I'm not thrilled with the move, but I don't see it impacting the team one way or the other. To be honest, if Super Spare has to play substantial minutes, you're going to be hurting, IMO.

btw its possible(though unlikely) that a guy like nick fazekas or alando tucker could slide to the early second.

Gotcha. Yeah, Donnie said he wasn't disrupting his "top 10" players. He hasn't done that yet. And I don't really want him to.
I've glanced at various scenarios, but I really don't see a way to parlay the trade exception into one of the Pistons big men.
It will be interesting to see what Donnie has up his sleeve.

btw, we have 3 second round picks now. none are that valuable but all 3 as a throw in along with crosheres expiring contract might net you a solid player.
