T-Mac is on the market
The Orlando Magic lost one superstar eight years ago when Shaquille O'Neal left via free agency. Now they may trade away another one.
Tracy McGrady, who can become a free agent next year, informed the Magic on Friday that he does not want to re-sign with the club, league sources told the Orlando Sentinel.
In order to avoid losing McGrady without compensation, the Magic are expected to explore trade options. McGrady, who has led the NBA in scoring the past two seasons, should draw heavy interest.
Although McGrady could not be reached for comment on Friday, he has said he would opt to leave if he didn't think the Magic could improve quickly. Orlando fell to a league-worst 21-61 record next season and has the No. 1 pick in the draft. McGrady had hoped the team would trade the pick for veteran help, but the club wants to keep the selection.

RE: T-Mac is on the market
This is interesting, and can be either very good for us or very bad. If Don Nelson gets on the phone right now, and offerst some kind of a package, probably involving Walker and/or Finley, and/or Jamison, and/or Howard, and they accept, we can be in for a great season next year. However, if we don't make a move and a division rival such as Houston get T-mac, we could be in a world of trouble. We'll have to see.....But at this point, Im not even sure I want T-mac on this team, but I would much rather see him in the East than on a good Western team.

RE: T-Mac is on the market
That kind of press has got to sting for Orlando management. Sort of undermines the little bargaining power they still had in negotiating TMac trades. I don't expect them to go giving him away or anything, but any posturing they try is really going to ring hollow.

RE: T-Mac is on the market
If I'm Carrol Dawson, I'm on the phone offering a package featuring Franchise, a two time All-Star that you can sell to the fans. A T-Mac/Yao Ming combo scares the hell out of me.

I'm not exactly fond of it either, dirno.
If for no other reason than to prevent HOUSTON from getting him, THE MAVS *MUST* ACQUIRE T-MAC!!

RE:T-Mac is on the market
just a simple question: would T-Mac make the Mavs a better team defensively?

RE:T-Mac is on the market
T-Mac probably wouldn't make us any better defensively...but Shaq would. T-Mac and Shaq AND Dirk=not enough shots to go around. We could probably win a championship with just Dirk and Shaq and a Daniels/Finley (they don't need 30 shots combined) combo.

RE:T-Mac is on the market
Personally I dont want T-Mac here... however, if we get a chance to acquire his talents to our club for a fair price..then we have to jump on it. Who knows...maybe we could turn Howard/Jamison into T-Mac..and then turn T-Mac and draft picks(plus junk) into Shaq

RE:T-Mac is on the market
I'm afraid that Nellie would run the offense too much through T-Mac to keep him happy. Don't we want Dirk to be the focal point? I think we rather look for quality role players and a better big man. We don't need more than one star player to become a title contender if we have a quality supporting cast.

My money is on Houston or Indiana. I think the Pacers can offer the best package...

LOL. according to ESPN.com

One source told the paper that the Magic have asked the Pacers for as many as four players -- Ron Artest, Jonathan Bender, Al Harrington and Jamaal Tinsley -- in return

RE:T-Mac is on the market
Just a couple of things to add.......
1.......Phoenix is virtually dead in this cause Orlando wants Amare, not Marion. Orlando's thinking is that they want the other team's best player in return for giving them their best player in T-Mac.
2.......This is also killing any deal with Indy as well.....and now we know why thanks to Erica.
3.......However, apparently they also think Steve Francis is the Rockets best player.... and are in serious talks with the Rockets according to Marc Stein, whom appear to have the most interest, not to mention the best chance, at landing T-Mac. But any deal involving Francis would have to wait until August, when Francis's BYC status is up.
Personally, my money is on the Rockets. I would really like to see this happen... for Yao and T-Mac to be on the same team. It would be like another Kobe/Shaq type of inside/outside game to replace the current one, which appears on the verge of total destruction in LALA Land. The big difference here is, Yao appears to be much more willing to pass the ball to T-Mac then Shaq ever was to kick it out to Kobe, thus the chance of better chemistry between Yao and T-Mac. And if this happens, watch out....it should be some serious fun.

Absolutely, why do we need another huge star? With T-Mac there's no way there'd be enough shots to go around, and Dirk gets another sub-par year.

RE:T-Mac is on the market
You've got to feel for the Orlando fans. They must feel like a minor league team when all these "superstars" leave their team for other teams. The only "superstar" they got from another team that has stayed is Grant.

RE:T-Mac is on the market
I was a Mavs fan in the 90's, so I don't feel the least bit bad for them. Let them wallow in failure for a while longer. It might end up doing them some good!

If this is true, then my second favorite team, the Rockets, have definitely upgraded.

RE: T-Mac is on the market
What a terrible deal for Orlando. And what a crummy deal for Mavs fans who will have to face the Yao/TMac tag team four times a year.
Congrats Houston on fleecing the "hockey guy" John Weisbrod...

RE:T-Mac is on the market
Orlando deserves all the failure they are going to get. Sheesh.
Though if that's the price for T-Mac, then what can the Lake expect for Shaq??

RE:T-Mac is on the market
If the read the David Lord article on another thread, he outlines how the Lakers are really at a bargaining disadvantage, so it may not need to be that as much as you'd think.

RE:T-Mac is on the market
If this happens, then I'll be happy because the Mavs can concentrate on the Shaq deals instead of a Shaq and T-Mac scenario which is too complicated. Just focus on Shaq and get him here.
