RE: derek hood
Training camp fodder who has spent time with the team before...in camp and on the summer league team. Went to school at Arkansas. Good player but one of those guys that's not quite big or athletic enough to play in the league.

RE: derek hood
Derek Hood
Position: Power Forward
College: Arkansas
Conference: SEC
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 218
Age: 28
Birthdate: 12/22/76
High School: Central, Kansas City, MO
We signed Derek Hood (a 6'6" power-forward who is the second leading all-time rebounder at Arkansas, and who has bounced around the league since graduating in 1999) to an unguaranteed 1 year contract back in 02-03. He then competed in training camp with Adam Harrington and Kipp Christianson to fill the one open roster spot on our 02-03 Mavs, and ended up being cut before the season started.
I have no idea whether or not he is going to be participating in this years Mavs training camp, but I would say that this is a very, very bad year for him to try to catch on with the Mavs...
Where did you hear that we were signing Hood again?

RE:derek hood
might be more significant than it is. players that play at training camp get contracts. It could be a 10 or 20 day contract ending before the season starts in november.

Dude... the server is a little slow so it takes time for your post to get posted. Be patient and don't keep reposting.
EDIT: Hood was a pretty decent player in Arkansas and a fan favorite. Too bad he doesn't get to play in the NBA.

RE: derek hood
the Star Telegram says he's a nonroster invitee. It doesn't say anything about signing him.

RE:derek hood
Lots of players grow an inch or two when they come to the NBA. At least on their profiles...

that's only the back half and it gives me shivers. I can't even think of the frontcourt.

RE:derek hood
It says on the bottom of that page that we signed him too, but I guess they can say that when he signs a nonguaranteed contract too. B/c we really need more guys on the roster, yes?
Check out the pic of Damp in the Day 2 pictures. I think the only time I've seen him smile is in his roster pic.

RE: derek hood
Could the Mavs be buying out TAW and Esh, then let hood and Dickau battle their spot out in training camp? We have the back court depth, but some extra size to play PF would be nice. A physical player especially, not really a good offensive one.

RE:derek hood
According to Patricia's Mavs site, Derek Hood signed a one year deal non-guaranteed for $620,046
