"Out of gas" is not a thing that happens in the span of a 2 weeks (or even 2 months). Just so we're all clear on that.
Carry on.

On two of them yeah, literally. At least if Fisher was the one closing out on him.

Yeah, like I said, I don't like that terminology. I would say it's more age catching up to him, and a case of simply losing the ability to shoot (it does happen).

not so suddenly watch his three point percentage finish at a respectable number, people forget Kidd was very streaky last year

Out of Gas was probably never an accurate depiction.
However, over the course of the year, he has shown the inability to do some things that he could still do even in recent years (beat up small guards in the post, get to the FT line, play decent defense on all but the quickest PGs, etc).
He can make up for a lot of that if he shoots the 3 ball like he has the past 2 years. But those were also the 2 best shooting years of his career. If he regresses to his career average (which is still well above how he has shot this year), then his value is severely limited.
However, I will say that I'm convinced he can still be an elite passer into his 50s.

Absolutely false. People forget to do their research.
Last year three point % by month:
53
31
42
45
44
44
That's incredibly consistent. Only one month did he shoot below 40% from three.
This year:
41
37
31
30
All he's done is get progressively worse.

I wonder how that correlates to MPG. He definitely gets worse with more time.

Kidd's a great role player at this stage of his career, not a star. As long as he has enough quality players around him, he should be fine. Just like Marion, Stevenson or Jet; they're all role players and need capable offensive players like Dirk and Caron around them to be effective as well. If we ask Jet, Marion, Kidd and Stevenson to be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th options, we're obviously screwed, as evidenced by the last couple of weeks without Dirk, Caron and Roddy.
At almost 38 years old, Kidd can no longer lead a team like he did back in New Jersey. However, he's good enough to anchor a healthy Mavs team's offense with his ever-present playmaking ability. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to beat that many good teams.
In my opinion, his shooting and age are the only two things that are concerning. Hence it would be nice to have a better backup point guard to give Kidd the necessary rest to not be out of gas come playoff time.
