Sources told ESPN.com that the Mavericks, meanwhile, are closing in on a separate trade with Toronto by week's end -- sending little-used center Alexis Ajinca to Toronto -- to create a roster spot for Stojakovic without having to let newcomer Sasha Pavlovic go.

I don't think he blew his chance, it seemed to me that he just got permission to try things on offense to start games with Dirk and Caron out, so that taking 8 shots in 8minutes wasn't that big of a deal. If he could have made some of them and occasionally passed the ball allong, I think that would have helped the Mavs in that situation.

Fish seems rather sure he'll be back next summer:

Remember this about the Ajinca departure: He's free this summer. He's buddies with Roddy B and Ian and others in the front office. I bet he'll be back.

I don't know about that, though, especially if it's true that Toronto pays Cuban to get a look at him, as it sounds in BG's reporting of Stein's reporting on MMB. But reading Stein's update, those parameters seem to be reversed now with Dallas sending cash considersations and receiving a trade exception.
Either way, Toronto's 2nd-rounder we possessed apparently goes back to the Raptors, and I'm confused as hell and now rather focus on the upcoming game.

I will say this though, I liked having a prospect of his size and skill at the end of the roster.

Ajinca, meanwhile, will be dealt to the Raptors along with cash considerations and a 2013 second-round pick that Toronto had sent to Dallas in last year's draft. In return, Dallas will receive the rights to 2007 second-round pick Georgios Printezis (who plays in Spain and is no longer considered an NBA prospect) and create a salary-cap exception equal to Ajinca's $1.5 million salary.

So Dallas sent Ajinca and the pick (that was originally Toronto's) they'll get the rights to GP who will likely never step foot near the Mavericks facility and an small exception that will expire a year from whenever this deal gets consummated.

Thanks for clarifying. So the MBT gives Toronto their 2nd-round pick and cash to pick up Ajinca, right? Why not just waive him and let TOR pick him up then? Just to do right by the player I guess, the TPE doesn't seem that big of a deal, no?

It's better to get something rather than nothing at all. Like you said, also do right by the player...he's still getting paid and etc.

Ajinca does have potential but he does get trigger happy.

The real reason is that Toronto assumes his salary. Why pay what's left of his salary this year when another team is willing to?

Maybe someone would have claimed him off of waivers, maybe not. Why not be sure.

Ouch. Poor Ajinça took the early bus to the arena before the trade and was at shot around when he had to be pulled aside by Carlisle and told he was no longer a Dallas Maverick.

He's raw, but obviously he has some untapped talent. It wouldn't shock me if he sticks with a team, but he has a long way to go to become a reliable rotation player.

Good luck to him though, the kid tried and played his butt off here. Can't ask for much more even though the results weren't there.
