Question: Can anyone recommend a Wireless-N router?
You guys are some of the smartest people I know.
I had a Lynksys (sp?) something or other a couple of years ago ...maybe 3 or 4 years ago...and it really sucked.
Any suggestions?

Apple® AirPort Extreme Wireless-N Wireless Base Station
Model: MB053LL/A
I'm thinking about this one. Its a bit pricey for my taste, but if it means I can avoid the beating of always having to unplug and repair my network connection a hundred effing times, I'll happilly pay extra.

Can I hook a printer up to it?
How easy is it to set up? Do I plug it in and choose a password, or is there more to it?

The router includes 4 Ethernet 10/100 ports so as long as your printer has an Ethernet port then yes.

It's fairly easy. But trust me, you never want to setup a wireless Network by just choosing a password. I'll PM you about the setup. You want to do it right or else your neighbors will be sharing your internet connection.

Thanks U2, I like the price of that one, and have read some good reviews on it.
I'll be picking it up tonight.

but they haven't established a true N standard. Even though cisco is making a .N Access point
im just saying.. also on a side note i did buy a linksys N access point like 1.5 years ago.
all that being said im not sure if N is really that much faster than a G access point.

it's preN huh? It is supposedly loads faster. Stay away from the linksys preN routers, that's for sure. And I believe you can install DD-WRT on that buffalo, am I right?

bernardos: link
And MavsX. Yes you are right, however any changes to the current RFC won't be unfixable via a firmware update.

i never thought about running Linux on my wireless router. That sounds like something i might have to do sometime. I bet there are a billion forums out there and tutorials of how to do it. Especially since i have probably the most popular access point in the market.
Funny thing is, i don't even use my access point. All my stuff is wired in, and i have the wireless functions disabled.

also bought a repeater (?) that's really helped. the router is at one end of the house, the repeater in the middle allows the computers at the far end to get a constant signal.

Well, after struggling with my new router tonight, I plugged my 4 year old router in and it worked just fine. Now I have to decide if the new one is worth keeping.

Mary, is there any particular reason you were wanting a new router? And an "N", for that matter?

Not in particular.
I bought a new laptop. It has a Wireless N card and I thought it would be faster....and maybe it is.....but I can't get it to work.
(plus I remember having lots of problems with my old router too...but so far tonight its been working fine..)

Mary, although the connection speed of the N specification allows for faster speeds (more bandwidth), if all you use the wireless network for is internet access then the N router isn't going to help you unless you have, say..... a couple of DS3's, an OC3, or an inverse multiplexed T1 network.... which I know you don't have because of the type of router you are using.
