Default 10 best point guards of the last decade

good write up from Kelly Dwyer Yahoo Sports

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/bal...urn=nba,191685

#1 JASON KIDD
Put it all together - the stifling defense, the pinpoint passing, the burgeoning shooting acumen, the scoring touch in transition, in the paint, or his staunch rebounding abilities - and you nearly have the perfect point guard.

And the best point man of our era.

The off-court stuff, you might not like. The trade demands, the contract issues or the way he was probably pretty overrated during his last few years in New Jersey. Overall, it doesn't matter much. Kidd averaged 13.8 points, 9.2 assists, 6.7 rebounds, two steals, three turnovers and absolutely killer defense for the better part of this decade.

10. Sam Cassell
9. Baron Davis
8. Deron Williams
7. Andre Miller
6. Tony Parker
5. Chris Paul
4. Gilbert Arenas
3. Chauncey Billups
2. Steve Nash

I'll take Chris Paul over Nash, Billups, and Arenas any day of the f*cking week. Seriously, Arenas?

Shoot, Stockton in the 2000's is a better PG than Arenas.

Agreed - He last played in 2002 which puts him in this list.

One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996)

Some play a position exquisitely, just as it was designed. That would be John Stockton at point guard.

A fast, gritty, durable player who saw the floor as well as anyone who ever played the game, he left the NBA after 19 seasons with the Utah Jazz, holding a mass of assists records, including the career mark (15,806).

He led the league in steals twice and, with a career total of 3,265, he retired as the NBA's all-time leader. He also played all 82 games in 17 of his 19 seasons and his career shooting percentage was .515, a remarkable statistic for a guard.

To have Arenas ranked ahead of Paul and Parker is just idiotic, good old fashioned east coast bias.

I think Paul is getting punished for not playing for about half of the decade. If not, he's the best point guard on this list.

Just a guess.

If the question was best SG in the body of a PG with the biggest penchant for tossing up shots for personal glory over team success, then I'd definitely find Arenas' spot on that list appropriate-- maybe even a little low.

Well if we're really including combo guards, or SG's in PG's bodies, then how the hell is Iverson not on this list?

actually i am.

These are iversons teams records and his shooting percentages and turnovers for this decade
record result in playoffs fg% TOPG
56-26 12-11 in playoffs lost in finals .420 3.34
43-39 2-3 lost in first round .398 3.95
48-34 6-6 lost in second round .414 3.49
33-49 missed the playoffs .387 4.35
43-39 " .424 4.59
38-44 " .447 3.44
not sure his cumulative record due to trade .442 4.12
50-32 0-4 swept in first round .458 3
last years abomination so im not doing the numbers.

his fg% went way up when they changed the hand check rule but he was essentially the anti dirk in that he turned the ball over a turn and was extremely innefficient with it when he managed to not turn it over. Dont get me wrong he wasnt a scrub but hes never been anywhere near as good as people thought he was. Hes also played with ALOT more talent then people think he has. The problem is he doesnt play well with other good players(yes i know he decided to be unselfish in international play 1 year)

its obviously relative to nba players but i stand by what i said. hes consistently been the most overrated player in the nba for the majority of his career. Everything that makes dirk great, the reverse is true of iverson. hes consistently been a below average offensive player who gambled way too much on D.

There are clearly things he does extremely well. Handle the ball, get to the rim, get shots off, and play passing lanes but the things he does poorly, he does so often that it overcomes those things. I dont see a reason to list arenas over him, and damn sure not so highly overall but i wouldnt ever want ai to be the pg of a team i routed for.
