Think about it. When you join a company, do you concern yourself with how much other people are getting paid (assuming you are going to draw a fat check yourself)? As long as you like the people you're playing with, get paid yourself and have a decent shot at success, if the company's bottom line suffers some due to your coworkers' inflated salaries, you are probably okay with that.

Professional athletes probably take that to the utmost extreme since their pay window is so short and open to ending at any moment.

Does the company you work for operate under a salary cap?

Agree generally, but if it wasn't a factor, D-Will probably would have already finished deciding. I think it's pretty clear at this point--from the reports that he's been waffling back and forth on his decision--that he genuinely does want to win and has been at least somewhat moved by the Mavs' position that it could be very difficult to compete for titles in Brooklyn due to their cap usage.

How much it's moved him...that remains to be seen.

I don't disagree with you but the Nets are operating under the rules of the NBA Salary Cap. Also, they are bound by the $74 million hard cap.

Since the Nets are using the non-taxpayer mid-level, their payroll cannot exceed $74M under new rules.

Looking at all the Nets' recent moves, I see four possibilities:

Either DWill makes a sound basketball decision and signs with the Dallas Mavericks;

OR

DWill makes a decision that is based on what his family may want and chooses the Nets;

OR

DWill is only interested in money and chooses the Nets;

OR

DWill is not very good at making career decisions and chooses the Nets.

The Nets' management is literally throwing wet spaghetti against a wall and hoping enough of it sticks. They have no plan, just lots of activity that they hope can be misconstrued as strategy. Its smoke, mirrors, and a ton of cash. Period. However, there are three paths that lead DWill to the Nets and it might just be the odds are 3:1 in favor of Brooklyn.

Well, the cap is essentially an imaginary profitability line for real world companies.

I get what you are saying...but Not quite the same, Eventually it will greatly effect the talent that is surrounding you. Most work places don't rely on teamwork near as much as pro basketball.

Here's to hoping the Nets get stuck with Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, and Teletovic for the next 3+ years.

This is purely speculative, but I like the Mavs' chances more the longer Deron takes to decide.

Not really... In the real world, the more you make, the more you can pay out... More like the MLB than the NBA.

Me too - seems like he's waiting to see who can put the best team together... Which means we already have a head start, seeing as how Dirk is the best player between Deron's two options.

I don't think it's a perfect analogy but the similarities are there enough that the Nets' 2015 cap space isn't on page one of Deron's list of things to consider.

Where are all the tweets that says Deron endorses the Teletubby...er Teletovi...whatever signing?

Teletovic, who stands 6 feet 9 and 242 pounds, played for Caja Laboral in Spain, averaging 22 points and 6 rebounds in Euroleague play. A skilled shooter, he converted 43.8 percent of his 3-point attempts.

The Nets used the midlevel exception to sign Teletovic, which — under the N.B.A.’s new labor deal — means they cannot exceed $74 million in payroll next season.

They also may have taken themselves out of the running for Jason Kidd or any other significant free agent. It is unclear what Kidd might command in a starting salary, but he will probably seek at least $3 million. The most the Nets can offer any free agent now (other than their own) is the biannual exception, which is worth $1.96 million.

It should be if he's concerned with winning - do you think Dirk took less money just so Mark Cuban could have a little more in his piggy bank? Putting together a winning team is ALL about cap space under the new CBA.

You're such a communist.

If he was ALL about winning, Deron could sign for less than maximum himself, you know.

The lockout really served its purpose...
In the end, it was just about the BRI and then they said you could have your game back.

Actually, that's my point - the way the NBA is structured is 100% communist... Whereas the MLB operates as more of a free market.

And nobody ever said it was ALL about winning, but Deron did make it clear that winning is his #1 priority...
